Maggie Valley 2015

Biltmore Estate Excursion?

Besides the beautiful, scenic rides in and around Maggie Valley, there are a number of attractions in the area that we can enjoy. Does anyone have an interest in a ride to Asheville to tour the Biltmore Estate? Its looks to be only about a 20 mile ride from the hotel so this could be a nice excursion for those who haven't seen it. We have never been so we dont have an opinion on the place, prices, etc, but I hear it is pretty amazing. This would be a morning ride and tour of the estate and then lunch somewhere in the Asheville area. From what I read on their website, the estate tour would take a minimum of 2 hours for the basic self guided tour. I didnt see prices so I will call to check that out. Feedback?

That goes for me too!! Scott, how's the knee doing? You going to be able to ride comfortably?

Only took a short ride a couple of days ago. It felt ok on the trike, but sore off of it. It was stiff, but I was only 6 days post-op. feeling better every day! We will be at MV for sure!

We've been there numerous times, Spring, Fall and Christmas and it is amazing! Plan on about 3 hours to tour the house and winery. They have places to eat on the grounds so you will not have to leave and come back.

If you go, it's better to get your tickets online at their website. Sometimes they have discounts or limit the number of people at a time.

After your tour, ride a few exits further (exit 59) to Swannanoa and visit a very nice Harley Dealer.

We also stayed at the Best Western, nice place and close to everything.
To forget the "Wheels Though Time" Museum in Maggie Valley. That's another half day tour.

Hate to post this, but . . .

John and I regrettably have to cancel on the MV Rally this year. I can't walk anymore at all, and John won't leave me home alone. We were all ready to pack and finally faced the facts. My stroke has left me partially paralyzed, and getting around to do Rally stuff - even going to get ice cream - is darn near impossible. We really wanted to see our friends again, but please stay in touch.

We'll miss you and we hope everyone has a great time! :(

"BUMMER" Nancy.....Hope You see some improvement over the coming months.....:(

Alright.... got my kitchen pass for this event. Will be coming by my lonesome, the wife has to work. Hey, somebody's gotta pay for the running around. :D

This is the real kitchen pass. Been tearing out cabinets & installing new.. nearly done. Replaced the roof on the back deck, replaced a few pieces of bad siding, paint... this damn retirement is hard work. I need a break.

ETA, hate to hear about ya Nancy, you & John were great friends at E'Springs.

I hope the wife & I can visit Ft Hood again (last time was 1976) and look ya'll up.

I guess this means that I will have to get a load out to your neck of the weeds? Oh well, the things we do for our friends. I'll keep my eyes open for something that fits my schedule headed your way. I'll even bring the ice cream ;)

BG, you know Janice and I will keep in touch. We will even share pictures of our flowers when they are in bloom.
Never give up, and we are sure you are doing your best to get around.
We could not make MV this year either, but we will be there in Spirit, just like you!
As they use to say, See you on the flip..flop! LOL

A plus for those of you that are Harley enthusiasts. Bike show, music, events all weekend.

Maggie valley

:confused:Hello I am new to the site the Maggie valley rally is it a big rally with vendors and rides haven't heard of it so would be interested on some information about it
Our Maggie Valley "Rally In The Valley" will be Sept 7,8,9,10 (Mon-Thursday) of 2015. The Host hotel will be Best Western and will include the discount rate of $65 per night to Trike Talk / T.O.I. member attending. This is a GREAT rate and rooms will most likely sell out pretty fast, so book as soon as you can. Be sure and tell them that you are with Trike Talk to get the discount rate is this is way below the normal rate.

There will be a $10 per person registration fee to help cover the expenses of hosting this event. It will be collected at the start of the event, in cash please. We put a great deal of time and expense into running this site, as well as the event itself, to include: name tags, arm bands, printed materials, refreshments, trophies, door prizes, etc and really would appreciate your support in order to make these events a success. The host hotel link and phone number is below.

Its more of a reunion than a true rally. We do not have vendors, but we do have rides.

You'll notice that on the sub-heading about the Maggie Valley event it is called the Maggie Valley Gathering. It is a rally in the definition of a gathering of like-minded people, in this case trikers.
There aren't any vendors, though some of the site sponsors may attend as "regular people" and not necessarily to garner business. There are rides - organized, disorganized, just take off and go, and most likely a trip to "Wheels Through Time", an awesome (I mean that in the original sense of the word, not the watered-down use you hear these days) exhibit of vintage American motorcycles, and they run. (We were there once and Dale, the owner, did a burnout down the aisle on a 1940 Crocker!) Just that place is worth the trip.
The main attraction? Some of the finest folks you will meet. That reason is enough for me, but combine that with the fantastic riding, great scenery, and a lot of eye candy with 3 wheels it is a Must Go event.

I did this post at work between being called away many times, and it took me more that an hour to write it up. Zook beat me to it, and he was much more succinct.
