What did you do to your Trike this week?

Please Keep good records on mileage and condition of the Avon front tire. I will be in need of one fairly soon, so, I am keep notes on what people have to say and how they preform.
Thanks
Rosy

So far i really like it.I retorqued the head bearings right before the swap and that helped the ride of the old tire. Now with the improvement of new rubber its a nice ride.Steering seems better.Maybe less movement needed to make the turn(not really sure about that but feels firmer).Just feels smoother overall. It took me 2 or 3yrs to put 10k on the old one so mileage reports will be a long time coming from me.

Well Marc H, how is the ride. You have had the new rubber for a few miles.
Please, keep us posted.
Thanks,
Rosy

Avon Trike Tire

I put my new Avon Trike Tire on in May before leaving for a long weekend trip to Maine. After using two MPA's on my GL1500 CSC Trike I decided to try the Avon on my Gl1800 Roadsmith. Right away I noticed a difference in handling, ride and quietness. I have almost 6,000 miles to date on the tire and it seems to be wearing well.

Thank you for the update.
How did you balance and what are you using for pressure?
I had an Avon Cobra before, it rode great, but no mileage out of it, plus it scalloped real bad. But, this tyre (LOL) is made for trikes in mind, so it should be a lot better than the old Cobra.
Again Thanks for the update.

I'm running mine at 41 psi. My tire when put on the spin balancer required zero weights. On the way home I ran my speed up to 80 mph and there was no shake or vibration. If needed I was going to try Ride-On for balancing.

Yes, seems 41 psi is a standard many 1800 Trikers use.
I believe when time comes it will be ceramic beads and 41 like I am using right now, but we will see.
Did your local shop have the tire, or did you buy it through the Internet? Dennis Kirk, or another distributor?
Thanks
Rosy

FYI... I just had serviced my TriGlide from the HD Dealer and found they put 41lbs in my front tire. I run 36 as the book says. Don't know if they changed or just that the Tech doesn't know his job

Yes, HD, has always run lower than Wings, don't know why?
Call service manager and ask him, if this is an upgrade or tech screwup! Please let us know what he says..
Thanks

New Starter

Had to replace the starter ended up being much bigger job on this trike. Use to the old shovel and sporty starters easier. Any way got it all apart and the new shinny one in place. Now waiting for new primary gasket to come they sent one for a 89 shovel. They were good about it will overnight the right and said keep the old kit for your trouble. rsz_120160818_070227.jpgrsz_20160818_070243.jpg :D

WOW, looks like a job for super tech! LOL..Those days are history with me, but if need be, we will tackle a big job. Things are so complicated now days. I like it in the 60s/70s, when things were a lot simpler! It seems now days, your hands have to be the size of a child, and you need specially tools to do the job. Even tuning your weed eater you need special wrenches! LOL
Everything is in metric, WHY, because 99% of the parts are from abroad, true? We never had metric wrenches when I was growing up.
Great job, and hopefully there will not be a spare bolt when you get finished! LOL Like with me!

DK comfort lift

I ordered the DK comfort lift on Monday, and got them on Wednesday . It took me two hours, I first did the easy side (right side) which turn out to take longer then the left side where the Brake brackets is. Only concern is the mounting bolts do not run out pass the bracket in which the new lifts attach to. It has four bolts. three of which are removed in order to attach the new lift brackets. One of the four bolts that is not remove has at least three threads sticking out. The three bolt removed, and reused don't stick out any threads. I use lock tied, but still concerns me that no threads exceed out pass the mounting brackets. Any thoughts on this matter? Maybe it's my old jet engine mechanic training that brings this issue to light.

:AGGHH:

That's a good point, glad you use locktite on your bolts.
Hope someone comes forward and let's you know. I am sure if you call the manufactured, they will let you know if that's the way it should fit.
Good luck.

Me i always like to see at least a 1/4 inch of exposed threads... If at all possible...

I try and use Locktite when possible, even on my Wing, which doesn't vibrate as much as a Harley. I believe it is a good practice, I use color blue.
Is it true, when you use red, the only way it will be undone is by applying heat?

Use more than a drop and you will..Best used on things you won't be undoing for a long while, I use mostly blue on every bolt or screw even if not called for.

The correct gasket came in yesterday, got to put Little Red back together. Easier than taking apart so took out for a ride this morning. No leaks no drips dose run :D Figure I saved over 400.00 or more doing it my self. Just wish it was a little cooler here.rsz_20160823_101946.jpg

As they say in New England, enjoy the hot weather while you can, because before you know it, there will be snow on the ground! LOL
There has been a couple of days lately when Janice has said, it feels like fall weather in October...There is that nip in the air, and we know fall is around the corner!
I really don't want fall to come as of yet..But, the days are getting much shorter, by about 5 minutes a day..so, we have lost about two hours of daylight since June...
AAARRRGGGHHH...
Rosy

Going nuts..need to do something...this recooping is for the birds. So, maybe we will get Janice to back the trike out of the trailer, then see if I can change the oil and filter. Fram filter and T-6..Oopps, need to check to see if I have a spare crush washer..If not, need to go to the Honda shop and get one...Yes, I know, some people use their washers more than once..But for a few cents, why take a chance!
Leo, how is the toe? Thinking of you guys..Jeanette, good luck girl!

I called the DK people. and they said that Kevin trike didn't have the any thread sticking out. However I was not happy with no thread sticking out. So I went to my local hardware store and bought 6 each grade 8 (3/8) bolts and replaced each one of them. One at time so nothing would move. Now the thread stick out is about four threads, my mind is at ease, and it only cost me 6 dollars and 43 cents. One more thing the z pipe was hitting the frame cross member. So I fix that too. By compressing the z pipe about one inch in diameter and 1/8" deep.

Now I am very happy:)

Isn't it wonderful to do a good job and it makes you happy!
I also have gone to the local hardware store and purchased chrome bolts to do a job that I thought needed chrome bolts..It made me happy!
Post pictures if you have them.
Thanks

She said when she put her arms on the armrest, her arms fell asleep.
Rosy

I have this problem with my arms also.
The doc says its nerve damage due to a back injury and Boxing.

Back in the day I used to wear weighted gloves when working out with the heavy bag. I eventually got up to 5lbs on each arm.

I would switch off between wearing weights and gloves to just gloves. My girlfriends and then my wife used to hate tapping the weights to my arms.

My boxing coaches and other told me I would regret it later on in life. I did not care at the time. I was young and thought I was indestructible.

I DO regret it now!!

Just installed a portal in my primary nice effect since I run Mobile 1 ATF in there. You can see some of the fluid on the bottom of the window. Really stands out when the motor is running.rsz_20160901_120059.jpg

What's the plastic? It really must be heat resistant because the oil is at about 240+F correct? Is it an acrylic? It sure looks nice.
Is there a guard under the plastic to prevent rocks from hitting it? At times it needs to be bullet proof.
Rosy

It's a good 1/4 in thick acrylic set into a solid billet plate. And it's set in a little, might get a glancing blow. I really don't think it will break:gah: but if it did would sure be messy. Then again you can get a cracked pan too. :D

Good point! Anything broken will be messy..or cost mega bucks to fix...
It does look nice!

Rear Tires

OK, like I said a while back, it is time to start looking at rear tires for my 02 Goldwing Hannigan trike. Why, because born date on tire is 808..& it is 9016. Tires are brand new with lots of thread left, so why change..
Car Industry says 6 years as of born date, tire industry says 10 years, in prefect conditions, but whose tires are ever in prefect conditions, not many!
My question, who is running Micheline Premier A/S tires in the rear? I wanted to buy what I have now, Micheline Primacy MXV-4, because I can't wear them out, but guess what, they don't make my size any more..
AARRGGHH..
I got a great ride out of my last set of Micheline, so I am hopping to get the same out of the new ones. Need to buy some ceramic beads so I can balance the rears, I believe it is 3oz. Per car size tire. Need to check.
So, need input....
Thanks.
Rosy

I thought about the Defenders for the rear.
What pressure do you have your at? How are they balanced?
I looked at a tire shop web page to compare the two, maybe I'll compare again.
Ride, wet, dry, noise, and other factors.
Thanks for the tip.
Rosy
