In talking with Papa Zook it would be great if we have several rides to choose from, hopefully 2 per day - a longer one and a shorter ride

if if you have ride ideas please post them here along with the day you'd like to lead it, departure time and some info as to where it would take us to.

i know Judy has two places she'd like to visit : Asheville Arbortum via the Blue Ridge 10 am departure for a full day

and a ride over to the Dragon

As I know I'll end up leading both it makes no difference what day we go

based on what is posted I'll try to come up with a ride schedule and post it here

thanks

NC "Loop Ride"

There is a "Loop Ride" located south of the Maggie Valley/Waynesville area and the Rattler Ride.

http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/419/North-Carolina/Full-Day-of-North-Carolina-Twisties-Loop.html The ride is claimed to have the most turns of any ride around, and it is a loop ride vs an up the road - back down the road ride. I found the ride by asking Google about NC motorcycle rides, and there were other possible rides generated by my inquiry.

Here is the Website for the Rattler Ride: http://209therattler.com/map.html And here is a video of the ride: http://209therattler.com/video.html

Have a great summer!

You mean like rides, and daily itinerary? I am leaving that up to you guys this time, as I said my plate stays beyond full so the ride captains/organizers will need to post that to the thread.

Missing what I'm trying to say

I put up a rides page

to register a person has to go to the rides page and find the link you set up

we need it on the first page so people only have to click on it there to do the registration

Ok I will repost here:

We will be arriving the thursday before labor day to pre ride some new roads. We usually do the Rattler on Tuesday around noon. It a good starter ride for those unaccustomed to twisties and short enough get back in time for happy hour and dogs, and it has a Tee shirt and ice cream stop!!

We can do 215 and 276 on any another day. We also found some good roads east and north of the rattler that we will pre ride to check suitability for a third ride.

Jan & John

In short, We are planning 3 rides

We have lead the Rattler ride on Tuesday for the last two years. We lead a group on 215, 276 on Wednesday last year.
However days can be changed. The new third ride can be any day

Rides & Dale's Wheels Through Time museum!

Sounds great to us... although we have to leave Thursday morning we will definitely be in on the Tues and Weds rides! Thank you for your work in setting these up.

Sara and I are in the same boat, we will be there Monday to meet & greet everyone, take the Tuesday and Wednesday rides, and depart sometime on Thursday.

We would like to go to Dale Walksler's Wheels Through Time museum, but as it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, we might go on Monday and/or on Thursday before we leave. Dale's museum is definitely a must see, if you've never been there, make it happen! Look us up Monday morning, maybe some of us could go there Monday afternoon, it's just down the street from the Best Western!

See ya!

Don't walk it when you can trike it!

Dave whatever you do don't let Mike talk you into walking to it. Trust me its farther than you think.

I've been there too many times to try walking it when I can trike it! I enjoy Dale as much as I enjoy what he has on display. He made points with me a couple of years ago when he saw me looking closely at his Dusenberg SJ convertible. He came over and asked me if I wanted to hear the engine run, and of course I said yes! (How many other museums have million dollar vehicles on display that would ever ask you that?)

Dusenbergs were known for having quiet and smooth running engines that put out a fair amount of HP, so when Dale started the engine I put my hand on it and it made about as much vibration as a sewing machine! Dale will start just about any engine he has on display for you, he is living a dream and would like for you to join him!

Oh well, as a crow flies Dale is just down the street! Have a great summer!

(thursday ??????)

Depending on what we find on the pre-rides, we can do the new ride on thursday.

On the map it looks good but I want to check for myself the condition of the roads, what intersections look like and best way to get there.

We haven't heard from Mike yet.

Wheels Through Time

Wheels Through Time is a must for sure! That place is the bomb! And Dale and his staff are great too!

Let's make a visit to Dale's museum Monday a MUST! For many of us, if we don't go on Monday, it won't happen!

Folks, arrive at the Best Western by Monday morning, meet and greet everyone, get something to eat, and then trike it with Sara and I for the wheels of yesterday at 1 pm!

Dale is very generous with his admission policy. If we go on Monday and wish to go back again on Thursday, I am sure Dale would be happy to have us go a second time without purchasing a second ticket! (I will confirm this beforehand with Dale...)

I look forward to synchronizing our wheels! (I bet you've never heard that one before! LOL!)

I just checked with Dale, and he said that if we go to his museum on Monday afternoon, we can attend Thursday or Friday for free; so when we arrive on Monday I will remind Dale of what he told me. I don't know of many museums - of any kind - that desire your presence more than your bucks!

Dale is more interested in having us be part of his living dream, than making money! In this day and age his old style attitude is a breath of fresh air, so be sure to join us Monday afternoon and help us "breathe in" and enjoy what Dale and his son have created!

See ya! Chaplain Dave

Sounds great to do the Wheels thru Time on Monday afternoon... but will one afternoon be enough time to see most of the good stuff?

Is one afternoon enough for Wheels Through Time visit?

Sounds great to do the Wheels thru Time on Monday afternoon... but will one afternoon be enough time to see most of the good stuff?

Sara and I went to Dale's Wheels Through Time museum a few years ago and had to made it a 2 day event to see everything! So for sure, a 1/2 visit is short on time!

The problem here is that Dale's museum is closed on Tuesday & Wednesday, and some trikers will be departing from Maggie Valley on Thursday. Our Monday afternoon jaunt to the museum will give us a good half day exposure to Dale's wheels of the past, and Dale has graciously consented to allowing the trikers who go on Monday, to come back on Thursday, Friday or Saturday at NO additional cost. That way, we pay once, and if we have the time, can come back before we depart for home.

I am attempting to blend Dale's museum hours with our busy gathering schedule! I have been to two TT gatherings in Maggie Valley so far and each time missed going to the Wheels Through Time museum; this time I decided to take the bull by the horns to make sure a gathering museum visit happened!

A visit to Maggie Valley in my estimation MUST include a visit to Dale's Wheels Through Time museum. To not do this is akin to going to NYC and not visiting the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty!

See ya Labor Day week in Maggie Valley!

The Bill Graham Training Center (also called The Cove) is located about 40 miles east of Maggie off I-40. On September 7th from 3 pm to 10 pm there will be a concert called "An Evening at the Cove" with Travis Cottrell, and the concert and evening dinner is $55.00 per person. Website: http://www.thecove.org/Event/events-detail/e-2029-an-evening-at-the-cove. Please personal email me and let me know of your interest. We will need reservations, and when I know how many trikers would like to go, I will see if we can get a group price.

Sara and I originally planned on leaving for home on Thursday... But we could stay another night at the Best Western, go to Dale's Wheels Through Time museum Thursday morning, and leave around 1:30 pm or so for The Cove. Like our Wheels Through Time visit, as long as we are in the area, a visit to the Billy Graham Training Center and having a good dinner and attending a great concert seems in order! I am sure we will enjoy ourselves!

Have a GREAT summer!

Thunder in the Smokies Rally!

As we depart our triker gathering in Maggie on Friday, September 8th, the Thunder in the Smokies Rally will be taking place. The event isn't far from our motel, just follow the noise!

Sara and I have been to the event several times and always enjoyed the shows, the bikes, the vendors, and of course, the bikers themselves. The vendors often have some great buys, one year I purchased a well made leather jacket for $49, a bike dealer would have easily sold it for 5 to 6 times that price!

There will be thousands of bikers coming to Maggie for the weekend event, so be prepared!

Hot Bike Tour

Also happening a short ride north is the Geico Hot Bike tour coming into Johnson City Tn that same Friday - lots to see on our way home

A GREAT suggestion! I am glad you mentioned the tour, Sara and I live only 30 miles from Johnson City, and Johnson City is only about 90 miles from Maggie Valley!

Those coming from north of Maggie and Asheville and taking I-26 to I-81 will run right thru Johnson City!
