Maggie Valley 2012???

oleman, if you or anyone else, know of a motel in the area that would accommodate a group needing over 100 rooms, please let us know ASAP. We'd be open to checking on availability and willingness to work with us. We have found only a limited number of a size that would fit our needs, and we do want to confirm something very soon.

The Ramada Inn put up a tent at their expense but it really didn't get used that much for the meet and greet.

Personally I think the reason the tent wasn't used is lack of communication. The Ramada could have let the people in charge know of their intentions and it could have been communicated before hand. I can't remember what motel, if any, sits on the other side of the Ramada, but if the Ramada was used as the host hotel, and Fours Seasons and whatever it is that sits on the other side used as overflow, that would probably work for another year or so, at least buy some time on finding something better.

Nana and Zook, you may have already considered this, but what about Fontana Village? It's been couple of decades since we stayed there, but to my recollection, I think they have a variety of lodge (hotel-like) rooms, cabins, and a campground, all at one site. Not sure whether they could accommodate us, but might be something to look into.

I do like the idea of everyone staying in the same hotel. We were not in the host hotel this year and I feel we missed getting to meet a lot of nice people because of that. Although we visited the host hotel a few time, not everyone was around at those particular times.

We all know nana and zook are doing all possible for the 2012 rally and will no doubt have a location that will be simply wonderful ..... but ... for anybody wanting to go to a different location consider going to the ... western rally in 2012 also put on by Trike Talk , in Reno Nv on july 9 - 12, 2012.
more info listed in the rides and rally section under western rally.
Maybe you could plan to attend both rallies next year

I am happy to see a rally out west. Count me in for Reno 2012.

Dave

I could be wrong but I believe the Four Seasons was the host hotel. I do know that Michael from the Ramada Inn was a little upset as 14 folks concealed out at the last minute.

It isn't looking good for Harrah's and Cherokee...management tells me that Harrah's fills up with players on the weekends, every weekend it seems, so they aren't very motivated to work with us on discount rates, with the exception being the frequent gamblers (Rewards Members) and I'm not sure that includes many of us. The other two larger hotels in Cherokee are both owned by the same group and they don't want to work with us on rates either or even on holding a block of rooms for that matter, so its back to square one.

We've talked to Michael at the Ramada and their group owns four hotels in MV to include Microtel and Best Western which are side by side and both have been recently renovated. Between the two we would have approx 110 rooms and along with the other two they own we wont run short on rooms nor will we have to pay a high rate as he will guarantee us a good rate and has agreed to reserve the entire two hotels for us. He has also offered to erect a large tent on the property for us to use as he did this year. He WANTS and appreciates our business and will go the extra mile to make us happy. Right now this is sounding like it may be our best option. Please tell me what you think?

We are also thinking about adding a "Casino Night" to the schedule for those who want to ride over to Harrah's as a group one afternoon and eat at the buffet and/or do some gaming, shopping, etc.

I/We are all for it. Since we ride the Area a Lot, just a little info (yes, probably worth less than 2 cents comin' from me...:D).....

Traffic up in the day, and especially Fridays and Saturdays, can be really, really hectic around the Casino once the Gamblers get off work and the Shuttle Buses start working that area of Cherokee. I use Hwy 19 through there early in the mornings, or Sundays, but the Blue Ridge Parkway dumping You out on the Other Side of Town is much better, easier, quicker.

Little Known Fact...Cherokee is not really a "Motorcycle Friendly Town", even though, just like Maggie Valley, it pays a lot of it's bills with "Moto-Cash".

Mitzie and I met Lots, and Lots of Members this year at the RALLY, even though there was no "Central Nightime Meet-up Area", by simply walkin' over to the next door Ramada, stoppin' in parking lots at other Motels, and eatin' with and beside Other TRIKE TALK Members in various Restaurants, and even Shops around Maggie Valley. Maggie Valley is kinda' like Estill Springs...spend 3 or more days there, and Folks are gonna' find out Who You are...;). Personally, I think Maggie Valley and Townsend, by far represent the two Best Towns to See and Ride the Smokies Area out of...ThumbUp

I ride The Smokies Area at least 10,000+ miles each year.....I cast my Vote for Maggie Valley.....:wtg:

Folks, for what it is worth from somone who is fairly new and has not attended one of your rallies.

Last summer we had our Heritage Springer rally in Eureka Springs Arkansas. It was a wonderful location. The host hotel has 70 rooms on 10 acres of land with a private clubhouse for all the social events. There was another 50 room hotel beside it, 60 more across the street, and more if we had needed them. The owner of the host hotel was a biker himself and he had all the holtels pitch in and paid for the meet and greet one night , and a farewell BBQ supper for us all. Rooms was in the $70 a night range. Ridding was super and the owner led a ride one day himself. Overall this location was one of our best and we have been holding these rallies since 2003.

I am not trying to throw a monkey wrench in the way things work here but if you serious about moving from MV one year, consider ES.

Zook, I like the 2 motels with the 110 rooms between them. That gives us a good base for a majority that would be staying at the motel. The ability to add on with the 3rd and 4th motel would be great. Lets go with that for next year and see what develops. How many rooms total for all 4 motels?

Ted

I will definitely check out the reviews. Depends on the dates of them as it has recently been renovated with the current management, but it will be worth looking at.

I have 3 Motorcycle Buddies that stayed there last week. While reading this just now I called one of Them. He said It was fine, and a very courteous Staff..better than the Robbinsville Microtel, which me and Them have stayed at on several occasions. I still think RALLY IN THE VALLEY needs to keep it's "VALLEY"......"but".....keep chiming in Folks with Your personal thoughts...

Just checked out the 'ram-a-dam-a'... and it has it's good points and bad also.... but I agree ... let's make sure the improvements have been beneficial.... the places are clean... the facilities are accomodating.... and "BOOK IT DANO"...there are so many Rally's going on with the various organizations... unless your retired (we aeren't!!)... you gotta pick and choose...

budget time and money and make plans WAY in advance.

We had about 30 rooms in the Ramada this year --- all positive reviews from our members. We also had members at the Best Western with positive reviews. Those are both under this management, and they are the same ones who put up the tent for us this past rally. We were very happy with their service and the hotels we did use.

I think y'all can count on the 4th weekend in June. Mark your calendar. :)
But don't book a room yet. We have to confirm the agreement first with them, and will be posting the details in a day or two.

Lucky, we have a pretty strong count of about 220 attendees at the rally this year :D. Great turnout!

Also, the motel arrangements have been posted this evening, so please go ahead and reserve your rooms for 2012, y'all. If you are interested, Bazooka and I are both booked into the Best Western. Hope to see you there.
