What did you do to your Trike this week?

Started pulling stuff off to install a chrome inner primary that my bride bought me for Christmas. Should have it buttoned back up Saturday night. Was really surprised the difference in pricing of gaskets and gasket kits. Got all my inner primary gaskets and kit off eBay for $41.00 (from a dealership I learned)..... local dealership wanted $135.00 for exactly the same part numbers. DUH !!!! 8~\o

Shop till you drop...That's not only for the wifes to do..
I have always tooted, there are cheaper places out there for parts, now when you shop for a shop to do your work, well, it can be a sticky wicket because shop can be as rare as hen's teeth! LOL
I was lucky to find a shop that was great to work on my Wing, money back if you pay cash..How about that..Great service...
It was unfortunate The owner passed...I miss him! He was a great tuner!

What am I going to do to my Trike this week. Well As soon as my parts for the tour pac come I'm going to raise it and set it back about an 1 1/2 . Plus these rails are tapered so now it will set level also and I'll be able to clean under easier now alsoThumbUpThumbUp. I ordered 2 ordered 2 set. No not to make even higher lol. For my buddy don't the street. Randy has the same yr Trike as I do. So were doing both of them. Can't wait for it to get here now :D Sorry Rosy to break into the Honda party that goes on here :). But just getting a little excited about working on my Trike in the next few days. As an old Hot Rodder this is sometimes better then ridin :)

Just buttoned up my primary. Now I have some additional bling, a chrome inner primary.

Now, getting ready to go topless. Pulling the tour-pak off and installing a FLHXXX luggage rack and passenger back rest. Only going topless around town and short runs. Road trips the tour-pak goes back on.

Morning Texan: I've been toying with that idea from day 1. Can you post pictures of before and after on here for us ? Love to see the finished project . Thanks :D

Thank you, we're going to ask same question for the rest of the Trikers.
That's funny, riding in that condition, is not what comes to mind!

Yeah, will post pics.... If you're thinking about doing this you'd better start now trying to find the FLHXXX luggage rack and passenger backrest. Harley has discontinued the parts and finding them is a real undertaking. As I posted in another thread on here about this same thing......I started this process several months ago. Couldn't find the parts. Finally got 'em from a fellow in Canada. You'd probably have better luck finding a Yeti cup.

As they say here in New England, rare as hen's teeth! LOL
Any crash shops have them? There is one in Mass. Which has everything from Harley parts to Wing motors.

Maybe worst !!

Like I indicated earlier I found a luggage rack in upstate NY listed "buy it now" for close to $400. Sold in less than 10 minutes after he listed it. Didn't have a backrest or sissy bar. Never thought about motorcycle salvage yards. Might be something to that.

Watch Harley see what everybody's doing and re-release the parts for twice the $$$$$.

possible rack available

If looking for a rack give boardtracker hd a call. they are still listing it. The sissy bar does not come up though.

Great, people may come forth with places to look. Each state has their own parts departments were you can see what they have. BUT, you have to make it known what you are looking for. I am sure each member on this site has places they know where to buy used parts for each type or brand of bike/trike.
Keep asking!

Before I found my parts I had my local HD parts manager do a search on their "parts locator" and nobody within a 5 state radius had them. He further explained that under Harley's new parts "stock" guidelines, any parts that are not selling or have been discontinued "have to be" returned to Harley. New policy is piss'n a lot of people off especially those looking for older parts.

I thought about complying a listing of motorcycle salvage lots around the country yesterday and found there just aren't really that many listed as such. I do know one of our local wrecker service and auto salvage lots picks up a lot of motorcycles but they don't list that fact anywhere. ???? Finding 'em is going to be the challenge.

But like I mentioned earlier Harley sees the popularity growing to pull the tour-pak off, they'll probable come out with the parts again at an inflated price. Look at the StreetGlide. People were pulling off their tour-paks to give the Ultra that sleek look with detachable hardware.....so Harley comes out with the StreetGlide. Ohhh, now want a tour-pak we'll charge you more for that.......

That's not right to hoard parts so you can sell them at a high price.
Rosy

It's called investing/Risk taking... People do that with Gold, Coins, Stamps , Stocks....etc'etc.
And then sometimes they have to sell at a lower price....

Texan: I know there's more then one of us that would like to see pictures of the finish product. If you will pleaseThumbUp
My little topless project is maybe a month down the road. Have a Corvette project I've been putting of for some time now. Then the tour-pak venture..

Found one

Found 2 luggage racks from across the pond and 1 in COS.

Go to ebay.co.uk and do a search for "harley FLHXXX luggage". They want $200.00 plus shipping. Also indicates they have the backrest assembly but couldn't find a price on it.
Or search eBay US.

That policy seems to be nothing new. One of my 2 wheelers is a 1990 FLHS. (looks a lot like and is the predecessor to the Road King for you young'uns) HD changed the frame for '94, and after claimed almost nothing would fit, though a lot of parts would, and more could be made to fit with a little coaxing. Found many of the "discontinued" parts were unchanged or cosmetically redesigned and given a new part number. It was a case of,"Sorry, there are no parts to fit your bike, you need to buy a now one." Just a marketing ploy to force folks into buying newer bikes.

Dont know if ya can make it out, my 91 FLHS is in the mix. Turned it in to a Bagger. Bought it new.

That is sad! Sorry, but why "stick it" to your customers?
They have a product that sells, why make the public suffer!
That's wrong!

Well I started to do some wiring and switch additions. Seems Honda doesn't think a voltmeter is necessary so I am adding that plus switches to control the GPS, XM radio and the Sena s10 module.Caught cold and am in get well mode b4 I can finish.

A little ashamed to admit it, but the trike has been collecting dust in the garage since the Xmas toy run. I got an 89 Jeep Cherokee XJ, and I been spending a lot of time tricking it out. Gotta get busy on the trike soon though, have a IBMC campout at Grand Canyon north rim in June.

XJs RULE :pepper:

I used to have a '91. I now have a stock 2000 Limited that is my daily driver.

The previous owner of my Tri-Glide bought it from Valley Cycle in Bakersfield.

This one has to be daily driver too, so it's not going to end up as a "zombie apocalypse assault vehicle" Ahhh, good old Valley cycle, I still do a fair amount of business there, but I liked them a lot better when they were a little hole in the wall shop down on Chester Ave. That big snazzy building on Buck Owens has gone to their heads.

Your rides do change from time to time..One will be a trike the other a fun vehicle...So, play with which is going to make you and yours happy!
Enjoy..that's the best thing for life..what ever makes you happy..
