Re: Guns?

We gave our daughter Claudia a 410 single shot shotgun for Christmas. Its one Ive had for 20 years and its a good started gun...safe and doesnt kick a whole lot. Shes been shooting a pellet gun for a while now so I figured its time to move her up. Im not sure if she will actually kill a squirrel or bird with it but we`ll find out today. We are going hunting after lunch.

What fun Zook. Sounds like the way I got started as a kid. My dad took me out and taught me to shoot with his rifle and shotgun (he didn't have any handguns, just hunting). I'll look forward to hearing how she does.

Re: Guns?

:)Love guns! Only have pistols and a .22 autoloader for sniping squirrels. Fond of .357 mag and 9x18 Markorov rounds. I have a ranger for a neighbor, and he has a "killer" collection! (no pun intended). He even has a 45 chicago typwriter(tommy gun). He has helped make me a formidable marksman as we shoot at the range together.I am amazed at how fast he can strip a weapon and put it back together! Training, training, training! I think a firearm thread is a cool idea. We both have concealed carry permits.jimsjinx

Re: Guns?

I only have one Gun, but don't even know what it is I will try to post a picture soon in my album. all I know is Officer pistol from German soldier WW2 .

Re: Guns?

Smaller than a Lugar, small round like a 22 I think like 6mm I have not looked at it in years NEVER been fired Have no bullets for it.

Re: Guns?

More than likely it is a .32 cal. They were popular during WW2. It could have been a Walther, as they were often taken from the English Officers. Post a picture. Lugers were 9mm Par.

John's WW2 Gun

John,
You have a CZ-27. It was made in Poland. I thought it was Russian after seeing the picture. I figured it was 32 cal. due to that being the popular small cartridge smaller than the 9mm. You can read about it on the attached web page:

CZ’s Model 27 7.65mm Pistols

It was too simple of a gun to be German, the rake on the handle was too steep, almost non-existent vertical handle. If you look at the other German pistols, the handles slant, and the other popular Walther PP & PPK versions were also slanted or raked. The Russian or in this case the Polish manufacturing plants of this time (occupied by Germany during the WW2) were not as sophisticated as German and English pistol makers and therefore simpler in appearance.

If you plan to shoot it, you will need 32 cal. shells. They make several sizes, you should go to a good gun shop / smith to verify you have the correct size. You should also have someone who know pistols inspect this pistol before you shoot it. Nice piece of history you have.

Re: Guns?

Not to interrupt the thread, but heres a pretty neat link to Discover Channel's "How it Works" on machine guns. There is an interactive cutaway "gun" for blow-back, gas-operated and belt fed machine guns (scroll to the bottom of each page for the link to the next type gun). Click and hold the trigger on each one to see how the bullets feed and eject on each. Pretty interesting.

HowStuffWorks "The Blowback System"

BTW- couldn't get the link to work on the CZ-27.

Re: Guns?

Boy John if you had that handle it would have been easyer to find the make of this pistol! Yours had been replaced with a home made wood handle, or thats how some of the war year versions were made. I enjoyed traking this down for you.

Re: Guns?

Thanks again Mattel ... some day I will get ammo and try it.. thanks to you I even found a sight that shows it broke down and how to clean it and order parts.

Here is my favorite Mouse Gun:

The Ruger LCP - Video
It is the Ruger LCP .380.

I have the same one made by Keltec. This gun is so hot they are back ordered for several months.

Small - Light - .380 cal - dependable - and accurate. Low recoil.....

Well, I think he felt bad 'cause he got such a cute little gun and I didn't. (I must have looked pitiful :p ) He came home Thursday with a box in his hand and said it was for me. I found that little Ruger LCP 380. Now THAT is a sweet little gun!

Re: Guns?

Re: Guns?

Very interesting. At first I would say no way can he do that. but then I logged on to:

Bob Munden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It seems maybe he did do that, but he did not have to hit the balloons to pop them due to the powder and force of the shots.

The think I do not like, is the camera man is down range during the shot. Can we say PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME! Or we are stupid reporters who are going to ignore safety! The only way that camera trick would work would be with a remote control camera, and I doubt they had one, as the reporter was holding a hand held mike as big as a 1970's one!

Great video, I can never draw like that. Cowboy action shooting is gaining in popularity, and I hear it is a fun sport.

Re: Guns?

He said he was shooting blanks, (Normally just a primer no powder no bullet), thats why he had to have the balloons under 10 feet. I have known people to load just a primers and press the end of the brass into 1/8" of hard wax. When they shoot, the wax breaks up in a pattern like a shotgun and will go about 25-30 feet. At about 30 feet it will normally not penetrate cardboard. If you use a soft wax or make the wax thicker it will stay together like a paint ball.
By the way he handled the gun by the barrel he had to be using blanks. Anything with powder behind it would have made the barrel uncomfortable to hold even after two rounds.
But your right it's never very smart to be on the business in of a gun.... PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!
