I would like to get rid of Cat in the 2009 Tri Glide but am not sure what all is needed or what fits? I would like to go Vance & Hines Pipes but when I go to the shop they don't have much info on what fits. Any help on what is needed and best place to buy is much appreciated!

I installed the V&H Power Duals with the Hi-Out Put Mufflers on my 2011 triglide. No cats. V&H's has a number of slip-on mufflers. My Ultra had the V&H oval mufflers. They had a decent sound.

the '09 t/g dos not have a CAT. OR AT LEAST MINE DOESN'T. in front of the front cylinder is the O2 sensor .
the CAT in later models have the cat near the tranny cover. and the O2 sensor is before and after the CAT.

I believe the Cat's were in the mufflers on the "09's" If I remember correctly then all you need to do is replace the slip-ons. Get a high flow air cleaner and a fuel manager then you will see some power gains. Then if you want to relly go wild a cam change.

There are NO cats in the head pipe or mufflers on the 09 Tri Glides unless it is a California bike. The cats did not show up until 2010 and they are in the head pipes. I own a 2009 Tri Glide.

Check the VIN. In the 8th position from the left, if you have a "3", then you have a "50-State" certified bike (EPA and CARB) and a CAT. If you have a "1", then you have a "49-State" bike (EPA only) and no CAT for 2009.

I just looked at my VIN and it had a "1"..So I have a no cat header for 2010..

I thought any trike after 2010 had a the CAT in them..

Guess what I was reading was wrong??

You are correct. What did you read wrong?

:Shrug:I should have said I read other posts that stated differently..Or I was reading them wrong..

Yes, you have it right. Also the California 2009 Triglides a year ahead of everyone else. Believe they did the 2009 CVO bikes as well.:)

You are correct, all California touring and CVO have a cat in the head pipe for the 09 MY. 2010 is the 1st year everyone has been cursed with a cat in the head pipe, my cat lives in the garage attic:D.

Hello,

From reading TheBobs post above I was curious so I went out and checked my 2011 TriGlide and the 8th digit is a "1" so that means I have no cat?

Ride Safe and Enjoy!

So then I guess to rid the trike of heat and it's cat, I will need to get a new set of head pipes or look at American Custom Mufflers and trade in my head pipe :(

Ride Safe and Enjoy!

Everybody has their own opinion about the heat issue such an individual thing... I know for me the best investment I made for my 2011 Tri Glide was changing out the head pipe, mufflers, air cleaner and getting a super tuner. But to each his (or her) own.

I get a good laugh when I read these post about the cat and heat. My wife(TNTriker) said don't touch my cat. I love my Cat! Get off the sofa and ride. The heat won't bother you..:D Yes, It's an individual thing. Ride Safe !:Trike1:

Well,,,I certainly was not on the sofa, and the heat coming from the right side of my "11 TG was unbearable to the point of red burnt skin thru my Levis!. That heat did bother me. After replacing the stock pipes with V&H Power Duals, Ness Big Sucker, Screamin' Eagle Tuner, and changing the cams and lifters, I do not have 1st degree burns on my leg anymore. TG runs cooler, at least 30 more HP or more, and I can pass trucks pulling
5th wheels on 7% grades at 75 MPH and a head wind. With my Babe on Back too! I love my cats also, right where they are sitting alone, cold and desloate, on a shelf in my garage.

You must do a lot of around town stoplight to stoplight riding. My wife and I both have the cat still in our headpipe. Riding out on the open roads here in Tennessee, we don't have a problem with heat. my wife did feel some heat on her upper right leg before she bought a Crotch cooler from Capt. Itch, But that was only riding around town! No more problems now! Our almost stock bikes don't have a problem pulling and passing either. I guess it is an individual thing and how much money you want to spend!

I removed the header pipe on my 2011 TriGlide and replaced it with a Jackpot stainless steel pipe. I added a high-flow air cleaner and a Power Vision tuner and EFI program from Fuel Moto. I've noticed a definite decrease in heat on the right side of the engine and a marked increase in horsepower. Definitely worth doing, IMHO.

If I road myself I would not of had any problems pulling or passing. When I travel I am riding 2 up and every nook and cranny is filled. We don't travel light. To each his own, I am and always will be someone who likes alot of torque. I am satisfied with my mods but would still like more torque. Who knows what the future will bring ( 120 ).

I do know that when M3 got his 2010 TG and I took it for a ride to put miles on it I couldn't wait to get off it. I traveled over 100 miles on it and the majority of them was 4 lane roads. It was considerably hotter than my 2009. The heat I was feeling was in my calf and not in the crotch area.
Every has their own opinion and is entitled to it. The best thing to do is after a person buys one they should ride it and form their own opinions as they may have different tastes and requirements.

Just because I am disagreeing with you I still hope you will still buy me the Diet Root Beer that you owe me.

Absolutely Mike, I'm looking forward to buying you a Diet Root beer. :D
I also respect you, M3 and other's for being individuals and making your rides your own. Heck if I were 20 yrs younger I would probably send my bike to Frank Dragos and tell him to build me one of those 200 HP motor's. Help the economy man, we only go around once.:Trike1:

Counting the days till MV Rally..:10:

I wish I could have a diet rootbeer with you guys! Wth Ice Cream in it of course. ! I had the heat issue if I was on the freeway or around town. Didnt matter which one. Crotch was fine...the stock heat deflectors took care of that. But the right calf thing was just unbearable. Installed road pegs just so when I stopped at a light I had somewhere to get my leg away from the bacon fryer. The mechanic took it for a ride and was startled by the hot temp on his leg. I dont think these bikes are consistant with this issue. Some are hot, some are not. And....the hills here in Ideeho might be just a little steeper and longer than the hills in TN. Nearly everyone here modifies their motors for more power,, two wheelers and three wheelers. Stock motors just dont cut it in the terrain we ride in most the time. I went over a mountain pass last Tuesday 1 hour from my home that had 8 feet of snow on each side of the road, and it was 77 degrees. Just a typical afternoon ride here. If you were to ride in our mountain conditions regularly, you will be very thankfull for engine mods, I promise you.
If your bikes have no heat issues, I think that is out of the norm and you were lucky!!! Some of us have not had that luck!!

I guarantee you have a cat, ALL 2010 and later touring bikes and trikes are equipped with a catalytic converter. The digit indicator needs to be taken in in the context it was meant and that was for the 2009 model year.

Come on over to the Rally, I will certainly buy you a Diet Root Beer with ice cream in it. I LOVE root beer floats. How far are you away from Jackson Hole??

Something I haven't ask in the past. Do you guy's wear short's when riding? That may be a heat factor from the Cat. My wife and I never wear short's while riding a Bike. I learned a long time ago riding dirt bikes, even jeans protect a little if you go down or happen to touch a hot pipe. I think another difference is we ride solo. The stock bikes work pretty good pulling hill's if you use the right gear keeping the R's up and are not towing a trailer and two up.
We also have some pretty steep hills here in TN. Some of these switchbacks are so sharp, you are almost looking at your own taillight's... :Dup
I'm sure it's nothing like Ideeho though! You should come on down to the Rally in June. Love to meet you!

Ron

I am about 6 hours away from Jackson Hole..Headed to Yellowstone in Sept.. J.Hole is not on the agenda right now though. Sorry!..I sometimes wear shorts in the summer when riding, but levis mostly and chaps if cold enough. Has to be below 45 for chaps with me. Also ride about 50/50 solo and 2up.
No trailer and I keep the R's at 2800 to 3200, which seems to get the best results for performance. The heat was the same no matter what I did. The engine would ping and knock and pop and make funny noises while hot. I couldnt stand it. I still think that some bikes just run cooler for some reason. Maybe depends on the materials used and how it was assembled and by who on any paticular day. I dunno... Thankfully one of the side effects of pumping up the horsepower and getting rid of cats is a cooler running engine. Wont make rally this year...Headed to the California Pacific Coast Highway from Morrow Bay to Crater Lake Oregon in July. Hope we all meet up someday and the root beer floats are on me!!
