Carplay on a 2019 Harley (Trike)

I discovered the exact same problem after I installed the CarPlay jumper. The passenger intercom can’t transmit through the mic. But the rest of the headset works fine. Were you able to figure out how to get around this problem with the jumper?
No. Just left jumper in because want CarPlay. Haven’t mess with it in a while and haven’t heard of any fix for it either.

There has not been any conversation on this thread for a few months - still, I think we can help you.

So, tell me where you stand. What bike and radio do you have?

Are you using a wired or wired headset? Have a WHIM or not? If wireless headsets, what units do you have?

sounds like you have the jumper installed.

Lots of great folks here - my bet is we can help.

I have read through this and didn’t find my answer or may have missed it. I have a 2020 tri glide it has the WHIM installed by the first owner. I want to use CarPlay but don’t want to use a headset wireless or wired. The CarPlay jumper plugs in to the same place the WHIM does so that won’t work. Is there any way I can get CarPlay having the WHIM and not using a headset?

Just plug phone into the usb with a cord or add a wireless CarPlay adapter.

Tenlow714 - I believe I have the answer to your question.

If you have the WHIM installed, you must have a wireless mic connected. Some folks have purchased a cheap mic and just left it in the trunk.

Here is my suggestion. Pull the cover off and unplug the WHIM. When you do, reconnect the headset plug. Now you re backed to wired headsets.

By the logston plug (about $17) and you can put that in the passenger's headset plug. Your carlay will then work.

If you are confident you will never go back to the WHIM, take it out and sell it. Plenty of folks looking for the WHIM. New, they are $400 - you can probably get $200 or a little more.

Hope this helps.

No don’t do any of this☝️☝️. With whim installed just plug phone into the USB and hit the CarPlay button on the main screen when it comes up or If wireless adapter find on phone in the Bluetooth section and connect and will just come up without you plugging it in.

Jamjr - do you have a WHIM and carplay?

If he was using AA, I would agree with you. Carplay however requires a wireless headset.

I had 2020 Street Glide that I had the dealer set my radio as if it had the whim and I conducted my wireless CarPlay adapter to the usb port and had CarPlay that easy. He has the whim so he should only have to plug the phone into the usb and it should come up.

Thanks - and were you using a headset?

I would say to him - or anyone other there. Try is your way. I can always be wrong - but my review say he will need some sort of wireless headset. That is why guys are just throwing a cheap headset in the pocket somewhere.

If I recall, your way worked originally - before Apple required a headset to make it function. When they did the software upgrade, such was a requirement. That is when the carplay jumper became a big deal. Maybe your dealer installed that jumper.

I will try to find those threads

Think about it this way - if he has the WHIM and when he plugs in - it does not work - that means something is wrong.

For what he wants, I think he will find it best to unplug the WHIM, reconnect the headsets plugs and use the logstom. If he is already in there, then, he can install the carlay jumper once he uninstalls the WHIM (jumper will not work with the WHIM)

JamJr - listen what he said - the Sena headset has to be on (start video at 3:00).
Ok I see that. But on my bike I never had a headset and never had the whim installed. They just tricked the bike in thinking I had one and it worked great. Now on the Tri Glide I’m using plug under the hood and using the wired microphone on it. The only problem I’m having with this setup is that the passenger can hear me but can’t talk to me through there mic. So still trying to figure out that fix but no biggy.

Yep - as mentioned, before you could do that - then apple made some changes and with the Harley updates, you could no longer do it.

The plug under the hood works for you. That's why I suggested he disconnect the WHIM, reconnect the headset and use the same plug that you are using. Or he can use the logston in the passenger headset. But, if he is already under the hood, might as well use the plug.

Now, you said your passenger can't hear you. I read this a few times - and what IU usually discover is that the passenger's audio vol is turned down.

Try this. First find the passenger vol switch - it should be on the side by the seat. Plug both headsets in. Have the passenger talk to you. While talking, use that switch to turn the vol up.

You can also try your handlebar controls - just remember, this has to be done while talking.

Let me know how this works.

No the passenger can hear me but when they talk into their mic I can’t hear them.

I understand - the passenger has to turn their vol up. Or, you have ot turn your vol up.

Remember - you have to do this while talking. It is just like your radio - if it is on and playing - but, the vol is low, you will not hear anything
