Carplay on a 2019 Harley (Trike)

Can we start over?
Does CarPlay only work with the headset plugged-in?
Are you asking me to start over?

If so, Carplay can work even if a headset is not plugged it. You can do three things.
1. Install the WHIM (I do not recommend now), Now you will need a wireless headset.
2. Put in the Car play jumper under the fairing
3. Install the Logsdon plug in the headset plug.

Been following this interesting thread……being an ‘ole Fart I’ m not very up to date on all these new lectric gagets, so I sent for the plug in adapter and see what happens…..I’ll respond when I receive it (2023 Ann. TRI).
EVERYONE RIDE SAFE!

Pete - what are you riding. A 2023 TriGlide? Are you using AA or carplay?

Using wired headsets?

All of the reports I have read - and even trying it in the rider's plug, for some reason, it does not work.

Also, if you read the instructions, it says put it in the passenger plug.

Features:

* Plug-n-Play, no taking apart your bike to install parts

*Allows you to remove and connect headsets if desired with no modifications

* Easy installation (plug into the passenger headphone port, and plug your phone into the USB connector)

* You only need one of these to activate Apple CarPlay

This item ONLY works on 2019 and up Harley Davidsons with the BOOM GTS radio!

This item will NOT work if you have a WHIM installed or have had your radio flashed for a WHIM. You would need to have your radio reflashed for it to work.

This item will NOT work on CVO models.

Tks all, that’s what I thought……will report back when it arrives!
This site is GREAT……..

Hey, glad to hear it worked out and all is running well.

Running wireless is not that costly. My AA wireless is about $45 - look for any coupons when buying them . Ottocast had a $30 coupon on Amazon.

Good luck
I never did update my experience using CarPlay after you guys got me up and running. I used it for the 2-day run up to the NC mountains to meet the boys.

I never ordered the wireless adapter. I made a tiny notch in the bottom of the push-door that covers my USB port. I run a right-side handlebar phone mount, so it was easy to ride with my phone plugged in and plugged in to that USB port.

My experience was at gas stops and other breaks I would have to remove my phone from the bike. When mounting back up it would take a few minutes to get my CarPlay and route going again. Whereas, if I was still using the Harley navigation instead of CarPlay (google maps) it would start my stored route back up within a minute of starting the bike.

Another feature that was different was the map size. The two days riding up to NC I felt the CarPlay map was displayed smaller in the window compared to Harley navigation.

Anyhow, while doing our week of riding up there I switched back and forth. For my run back to Florida I simply used Harley navigation and haven't used CarPlay again.

I might revisit it and try using different maps but my feeling is that the trike's screen is just too small to begin with and if displaying a CarPlay map reduces the viewing space at all it is not advantageous.

You will not damage the system
Ok, having some time to play around with the CarPlay. With the jumper plugged in under the hood and hooking the 2 wired headsets in. I can talk to the rear headset and she can hear me fine but when she talks nothing comes through. (Hear radio fine though headset). Take jumper off and plugged headsets back in and all is fine with headsets but no CarPlay.(Wirelessly or plugged into the usb). So for now just leaving the jumper plugged in and let her talk to me in my ear until I figure this out.

The jumper "fools" the radio that a headset is plugged into the system and mess with the headsets.
With no jumper and headset or sets plugged in and phone plugged in to USB Carplay should work along with the headsets.

Make sure Projection mode is turned on in Radio Settings:
Navigate: Home (7) > Setup (13).
Select: Projection Mode ON.

Verify Apple CarPlay is enabled in iPhone settings/Android Auto app is installed and up to date (from Google Play Store).

Verify Siri is enabled in iPhone settings/GTS Radio software is M21.20.17.00 for Android Auto operation.

Verify Apple CarPlay can be accessed while iPhone is locked in iPhone settings/ALL notifications for Android Auto are turned off.

Verify factory phone USB cable is used. This ensures proper performance for data change.

I discovered the exact same problem after I installed the CarPlay jumper. The passenger intercom can’t transmit through the mic. But the rest of the headset works fine. Were you able to figure out how to get around this problem with the jumper?
