Hard and nasty crash for Ryan Newman.

It reminded me immediately of 2001 and the Earnhardt Sr. death.:gah:

Hoping he's okay.

Not good when they put up the "Black Curtains"...

Was a huge relief to hear that injuries were just "serious but not life threatening". He took that one hit not in the driver door, it was in the driver side roof. I told "Wife unit" he probably didn't make it and I am so thankful I was wrong. I like & was pulling for Ryan & Jack.

Not a Toyota fan, but glad Denny got the win after all … as is Joe.

Also … glad that one of the "self confessed & convicted felon whom got sick before his sentencing … to house arrest and whom was banned from the pits for a year, whom then bought a Clinton pardon" owner's cars didn't win.

I wish Chase drove for Richard.

Thanks to FOX and our local channels I didn't get to watch it except for news clips but yes, that brought memories back. Nasty wreck. Most want to see wrecks but I don't think they want that kind. Their new format is the root cause if this wreck I think. Although those rules weren't in place 19 years ago so maybe it's not the rules. But we seem to be seeing more wrecks at the end of races than we ever did before the rules change so there's a link there somewhere.

More wrecks, fewer to compete against at the end...

Been a NASCAR fan since 1960 when Dad took me to my first race. I never want to see wrecks, never went to the races to see wrecks, I went to see racing, but when the wrecks happen, you're there to watch the race, you don't turn away. My racing buddies never want to see wrecks. Yeah, 19 years ago was a bad wreck, like many others I recall, but it was not the worst.

What we have now is a set of rules that no matter how good your car is that day, Nascar is gonna regroup you into a tight pack every "segment" … plus these cars are so close. NASCAR wants them chained, each dependent on the other, reason for the aero packages, they do not want one to excel.

I hate segment racing. If you're gonna race 500 miles, just do it. NASCAR was better before they tried these gimmicks, before they embraced a felon, before segments, racing to race. Much of what they do now is a circus.

I have been to car races, to the air races in Reno 5 times, lots of airshows and fly ins. I have never been anyplace to see a wreck, but it does happen.
