2014 Tri-Glide Thread

Re: Has Anyone Driven the 2014 Harley Tri Glide

It may be a few days before the dealers get them set up and one on the road for a test ride. It sounds like a lot of dealers got the first 2014s on Monday.

Re: Has Anyone Driven the 2014 Harley Tri Glide

Have a deposit on a 2014 waiting for it to come in. Talked to dealer today they said they will know in the next few days when the trikes will arrive. The come on a different shipment from the bikes. He said he did not know of any trikes in the area yet.

Re: Has Anyone Driven the 2014 Harley Tri Glide

Have not seen any, but read a new report that the 2014 trike and 7 other models will be liquid cool. ??

2014 Triglide Brakes

The MOCO has changed the whole system for the 2014 Triglide. There is now a 6 piston caliper in front and new calipers with re-designed larger rotors and brake pads for the rear.

The Rear brakes when applied will link hydraulically to the front center 2 caliper pistons only. It will apply the amount of needed pressure based on speed until your below 35mph.

If you hit the front brake lever the outside 4 pistons then work. The front caliper has two brake lines to it. There one for the linked system from the rear and the other is for the other 2 caliper pistons for the front. If you hit both front and rear at the same time both front and rear system work with all 6 pistons on the front working

The parking brake is a magnetic switch that actuates the parking brake on both rear calipers

Re: 2014 Twin-Cool System Video

Ah, the benefit of living close to the dealer Trent (lol)....figured you'd be on their doorstep first thing this morning. I don't like the look or the color selection of the '14's, especially the tour pak (fugly) and (no storage space) lowers. And, what the hell's with the aux lights so high? I'm happy, happy, happy with my '13.

Just got back from picking up my TG from the shop. 2 more 2014 Ultras going out the door while I was there. Really nice silver and blue on each one.. Both liquid cooled...they were trying to figure out the touch screen...you can change the selection of backlight colors, it tells you what band is playing the music, has the slot for an Ipod or cell phone..you cannot install the windshield pockets...the configuration will not allow it. I do like the tourpac though...comes with the LED light bar that I had to pay 500 bucks for and then pay more to get it installed. The rear lighting does look very nice. The lid tether is a canvas like material now...will prob still break down the line sometime. I don't like the standard GPS on the touch screen being so far down ...you have to take your eyes off the road too long to look at it. I like mine mounted up on the handlebars for easier glancing to see it. The vent opening on the lowers appears to be smaller than what we have...might be less air coming thru there now but with liquid cooling,, you wont need it. The stereo sounds amazing for just factory install...I mean it reeeaaally sounds great...Gets louder the faster you go also.. Just some random thoughts. OH...Had a 2014 orange Fat Boy sittin' there...I liked that a lot....Sales guy told me that the guy that rolled outta there last night with his Ultra came in this afternoon with 300 miles on it!! Ha ha!!! He said you would not believe how much cooler the right side of the motor was...you could put your leg right up against it with no problem...

Re: 2014 Triglide Brakes

Sounds like a lot of things that can get out of whack and break. Why couldn't they just go with a ABS system at least on the front wheel.

The calipers are made by Hayes brakes. The hydraulic rear link system is a independent setup with its own fluid from the front brake lever. Also the rear does have a lot more plumbing to make it work.

Re: 2014 Triglide Brakes

I wonder how those brakes would handle rain and snow. There are times I use only the rear brakes since the front would lock right up. Seems like they took that choice away. I'd wait a couple years before trusting any radical redesign.

You wouldn't have much advantage having just the front wheel for the ABS. All it would do is keep the front wheel from locking up with no other brakes being applied. With an ABS system on the front & rear it would be able to supervise both axles breaking.
I think the new system might work out better than the old system. But I'll also give it a while to prove out.
I think they know new riders don't use both brakes most of the time.:Coffee:

Re: 2014 Twin-Cool System Video

I was told the reason HD made the changes was to comply with MANDATED government regulations. True or False?

All that depends on your opinion.......
If you think it is the best idea, Harley will claim it was their idea...
If you think it is a piece of c#%p Harley will tell you it was the only way they could meet the EPA mandates.......

This ALL sounds GREAT...THANKS for the Updates.....ThumbUp :10:

I would thing if it is a government mandated change they would be doing it to more than just 3 of the touring models. I applaud them, its a long over due change and a giant step in the right direction.

This Same Type System has worked Great on Honda Gold Wings and VTX1800s for years...I've always liked it from day one.....ThumbUp

Re: 2014 Triglide Brakes

I think its a good idea, I've seen so many people come to a stop using only rear brakes, they they wonder why they get short pad life. The linked system isn't anything new to the industry, I have it on my Goldwing and have no problems.

Yep, the "Major Engineering" had already been done...just needed to add the design with no "first time teething issues".....ThumbUp

I agree..Some great improvements and articles on the new 2014 models coming out.

Hope to test ride one soon!!

Re: 2014 Twin-Cool System Video

Myself,,,I like the new stuff....

I am with you on new stuff also. Will stay on side lines a few years, more because I have an 11 and not ready for a new one quite yet.
Will be interested in seeing one in trike form and how it rides out stock.

You are correct M3...No gubmint goons involved in the changes. It was just time to make some updates. Victory, Indian, Triumph, Honda, Yamaha,,all have made a lotta very good changes the last few years and these brands are very attractive to buyers now, as you well know :). Starting to see more and more of the competition around here in this HD dominated Idaho landscape.

Re: 2014 Twin-Cool System Video

Don't hear anything about cooling fans at idle. Seems those radiators will restrict air flow at idle. Guess Harley has it all figured out.

Re: 2014 Harleys WOW! PROJECT RUSHMORE

Raxus, the part# is 53667-89A The flag pole for the sissy bar mounting fits perfectly on the 2 verticle bars on the guard rail with 4 black tie wraps. This way you don't have to use those "clip on" flag poles on the TP.

Someone gave me the poles a few years ago an I experimented with them and found out about this setup and have had the poles there ever since. If you want I can take some pics.

Re: 2014 Twin-Cool System Video

I was at my dealer last night looking at the changes in the Street Glide version. This one was not water cooled, but talking with the owner, this new Rushmore engine provides 10 more horsepower and more torgue (they Dynoed this one to satisfy their curiosity). The new Air Cleaner looks more breathable and better design than previous models from the factory.

As for air flow for the radiators at idle, the owner did say there were cooling fans for them.

Re: Has Anyone Driven the 2014 Harley Tri Glide

Not yet but am looking forward to doing so. I understand from my local dealer there are substantial improvements.

Re: the 2014 Tri-Glides are water cooled

I'm sure some HD purists will think this is the end of civilization however this is just catching up with late 20th century technology and what every other manufacturer decided long ago, water cooling is the way to go.

Re: 2014 Twin-Cool System Video

Hmmmmm.....
I was thinking of trading my 2013 for a new 2014 - think I would've if it would've been a Screamn' Eagle with a 120"! Now I'll prolly wait a couple of years and let the MoCo get the "bugs" outa the new system - you know there are gonna be some - there always are! And I really do like the option of removing the lowers - I like the look much better with 'em off.
Oh well......To each his own I guess :D
