2014 reverse motor failure

My 2014 Triglide reverse motor burned up. I may have used it around 10 - 15 times. Replacement cost is $1,500 (I have the extended warranty so I paid $50). When I brought the Trike to the dealer they said "This happens all of the time". I'm really disappointed (again) !

That has been a common issue with the reverse..Some last longer than others but then like yours it went of pretty quick.

I always said I would go mechanical if mine ever went out, but sold the bike before that happened..

When your warranty runs out . Go mechanical thats what i did in my 2011 Tri;. [Moto-Trike]

2014 with over 24K miles - I've used mine at least 100+ times and it still works great. I NEVER use the brake while the button is pushed. I ALWAYS drift after letting off the button before applying brake to allow proper retraction of the drive gear.

If mine fails, I will have my local electrical repair shop rebuild it.

I totally agree with upgrading to a mechanical system if you use reverse often.

I have a TGU2015 and have to use the reverse every time to reach my garage.
Had only one time a problem, fuse gone, after I used it while the "handbrake" was "pulled".
But I let install a Baker reverse this winter.

The reverse motor is only a HD starter motor. I only use it on level ground and only for a few second. You are better off with a mechanical reverse. I like MotorTrike since it has a kill switch that will kill the engine in case you have the reverse and forward gear engaged together.

If you are going to keep the electric motor reverse you need to find out what the reason for the failure was. Many times it is the way it is used.
Like not backing a long distance, watching that it dis-engages after use. Maybe water was a problem.

I'll second the automatic kill switch, definitely works and definitely needed.
I don't care how carefully you are there will be times when you hit first while in reverse . I do it every now and then.:gah:
Also just semantics But the reverse motor is a reverse motor not a starter motor... Hence starter motor #31618-06 $350.. Reverse motor # 83388-09 $1500.
