Would You Buy a New Harley Trike?

Ah NO!

Not planning on it ever again. I have a very different take on some things, vehicles are one of them. I waited close 40 years to get my Harley there are many but this one is mine. I have been very lucky no serious break downs. The advise and help a great deal of that from the forum here. I enjoy riding, cleaning, polishing, changing things to make run longer and stronger. I am different but the 09 is still as good as new or possibly a little more reliable. that's my opinion but everyone has one.:drinks:Ride safe Fred

Paid Off

Not interested in starting over. Mine is paid off and I have done a lot to improve it and make it a one of a kind. I am going to complete the cool down improvements. After that is the front suspension and about the time that is done I am going to go after some HP.

I think they have them priced way too high anymore. My wife has a Mustang convertible that is about the same money as a new trike and there is way more in the way of materials involved in that than my trike.

Short answer, NO. Mine is set-up the way I like it and it's a great ride. I also agree HD has over priced what they offer. Not only the bikes but everything that goes with them. $300 for an Oil change, geez. $40 T-Shirts... geez.

I don't even go into the dealers anymore........

Kurt give Pro Action a call and ask for George he has a different take on fixing the front end issues and much less costs. Check their website and give him a call. Second thought wait a week or two he is most likely in Daytona now. That's where I'm going for the front end fix. Pro Action is just a little more than an hour from home for me. ride safe Fred

I thought I might buy a new one for a retirement present but my "16" works just fine and their prices are just getting way to crazy.

New trike

No thanks, I have my ‘10 fixed like I want it and it runs good AND dependable!

i firmly believe that the MoCo has/is pricing themselves out of the market.....been

selling to many damn shirts, etc.

What is the fix Pro Action has for the front end issues? I have the comfort lift and 13" coil-over shocks from DK on the rear but thinking I need something for the front suspension.

Thanks,

Sunman

Last fall I talked to George at Pro Action he has developed new valves that meter the oil differently he is really good at what they do. His take is cartridges are not the best option and much more pocket friendly. Bike week is upon us and I'm sure George is there. Check the Website for pro action and take a look also view the install video. Fred

No plans for that now, but never say never. My 16 is paid for and pretty much the way I want it. Will be 72 next month and this will likely be my last one. IF I did need to get another one, it would be a lightly used one, not new.

harley trike

I would never buy another factory built Harley trike. i have had two of them, a 2010 FLHXXX and a 2015 Freewheeler. Both were as hot as hadies, poor gas mileage, bad compensators on both freewheelwer motor blew up at 65,000 miles, rough as heck ext. I now have a 2015 sportster with a Frankenstein trike kit that I installed myself. took two evenings with just ordinary tools and a torque wrench.

gets 45 mpg rides way smother than the Harley trikes, has plenty of power i can cruise at 75 mph at 3500 rpm is narrower than the Harley and corners twice as good. Motor oil stays at 200 F no mater what the outside temp is. wife's legs dont burn off when riding. The Frankenstein trike axle is twice as good as the Harley axle and can be taken apart and put new bearings in in less than 3 hours. Just a 100 percent better and no I dont have any thing to do with that company

Yes & I did .. 2020 Tri Our 16 had 45,000 on it and with all the new improvements in 4 yrs time, figured it was time again. We average close to 15,000 miles a season. Lovin the new trike, & after we get the ride dialed in we should be good. Luv the 114 M8 & tranny is better also. If we cant get it dialed in Pro Action front & rear, here we come. Can't take the $$ with us,so my wife says get what we want. 48 states & 5 countries for us. Over 30 yrs of vacations on HD 2 wheelers & last 3 seasons on a trike. We have always paid cash. Just save for it. She likes to ride as much as I do. I really don't know any bike that is perfect, so if I am gonna buy one it will be an HD . & not a Singer.

If I could afford it, I'd like a 2009 Tri-Glide and why? None of the latest and greatest electronic nonsense just an unspoiled user friendly trike and one I can work on myself. :clapping: Today the consumer trips over their own feet to have the latest smart phone or big screen TV, me I just want something that works. :Dorag:

No I would not buy a new HD. I agree with Trike Lady. I get a lot of pleasure doing my own maintenance.:)

My thoughts exactly:good: Old Shiney is not the latest or the greatest but it runs very well not really many miles on it 31K and change... be like selling a child!... now I ain't made that way  LOL. Ride safe Fred

I'm with Jack. I got a 2017 Freewheeler & it's set up for me. I am happy with the new M8 motor & have been able to do all scheduled maintenance myself. With the exception of the clutch recall & a speedometer problem, both fixed under warranty, it has been trouble free.

I am close to 13,000 miles & half of that has been on the highway & with the mods I have made, the FW excels at eating up miles on the highway. I still have a few mods I want to do, but I'm very happy overall & can live with it the way it is & I would not hesitate to get on it & ride cross country.

I have a new front tire Avon tire ready to install & was considering a new battery this fall, but the OEM battery is testing OK for now.

Have had 2 Tri glides and would not buy a new one today. Been looking at the Freewheeler used models as I would be riding solo. Price is the biggest deterrent for me, how much they are now than they use to be. I can swing a used FW without too much trouble. My new car cost less than some of the new trikes, and I can drive that year round.
