"Cook a Gook .........."![]()
To those who have purchased a CVO trike congrats and hope you get thousands of miles of fun.But for me its a no go,for 20-25 k difference for my 17 i can do a ton of upgrades that will make my 17 run circles around the 117 plus a ton of bling.
I look for the demise of the Mo-Co within the next ten yrs. They simply cannot seem to connect with the times. The younger ones simply aren't into the so called lifestyle. The Mo-Co needs to go back to basics and leave the clothing, the bling, etc to the aftermarket. This trying to be everything for everyone just isn't working imho.
If Harley stops selling the clothing, the bling, etc and leaves it to the aftermarket they will go belly up. IMO That where they are making the money to keep the doors open.

They are basically turning into a retail clothing store at many locations.
Went to Rock Star Harley Sunday (Ft Myers). They had free beer and a Rolling Stones band playing. Four or five salesman hanging around. Didn't see anyone really even looking like they were interested in buying a bike. A few gals buying shirts and stuff. A salesman who actually sold me my 2016 TG (he didn't have a clue I was a prior customer) caught us looking at a CVO Trike. He came over to make small talk. My buddy asked him the price and he quoted us $59,995.00.
I asked him why they would add $10,000 over MSRP and he said "because the CVO Trikes are extremely hard to get". When we told him Four Rivers Harley were selling the ones they were getting in for $49,995 he didn't know what to say except that they would make us a good trade offer.
What really shocked me was the electric Harley sitting next to the CVO Trike. We asked him the price on it and he said it was $30,000.00. The only thing I could think of to say was OMG. I walked out and grabbed another of their free beers.

What would be interesting to see is if the free beer and live band were to take a leave of absence, what would the foot traffic be like? I think it's great to have these freebies and all but this may be confusing to first time buyers, who knows!
I nearly fell off my perch when I asked what price the "new Livewire was". $30K for an 80 mile range bike, even a Tesla looks like a bargain![]()

I own a business so when I walk into another business I look at their cost to keep the doors open. Looking at the manpower a dealership has at first glance looks costly. If you look a little deeper you will find that everyone is 100% commision based. I don't know how the techs are paid but the complete sales force works 100% commision from parts, clothing to bike sales. Most of these jobs are a revolving door of new employees that never will see a great paycheck or health benefits. The dealership only pays floor plan interest, utilities, mortgage and a few other unseen costs. I wish I could get that deal.
As for the CVO prices most are asking 10k over but I would love to know what they actually end up selling them for. I paid sticker for both of mine but it took some work and being ready to buy when they have the weak moment.
Most dealers pay salespeople and parts people; Salary Plus commission...
The mechanics get a Salary .....But if they beat the book hour on a job they get extra..Used to be called over time....Or bonus ....
Bob, I disagree. In the car sales world your right at some dealers but everywhere in Florida that I know of pay their Harley salesmen 100% commission. I hired the Harley salesman that sold me my first Harley and have learned a lot of the behind the scene world. The scams, games, and the pay. They are allowed to take a draw against future sales but have to pay it back as sales come. I am not sure about the tech's because I never asked but I will tomorrow. I have a hard time believing the dealership would be fair to some of their employees and screw the rest. Even the girl selling you the t-shirt to the parts people selling over priced parts don't get a salary, 100% commission. Watch the revolving door at most dealers, if you don't have the skill or something to close the deal you will starve.
Don't come to Florida to buy a bike during bike week, ALL the prices are jacked up and the dealers make a killing. I have been personally told not to buy a bike I wanted until after the bike week because of the markup. If everyone got together and boycotted the dealer's during bike week they would never do it again. They depend on the sales during that week to make up for the slow times during the year.
The day I went to pick up my deposit on the CVO Tri Glide that my local dealer tried to screw me on the owner was there with his 1.5 million$ motorcoach and matching toy box.
It is all about marketing now days. Never mind all of us old timers that never left the Motor Company even in the bad days of the AMF years that seem to be slowly coming round for a second bite![]()
While waiting for my traction control recall to get done I was wondering around Ft Myers dealership (Rock Star Harley). Of course a new white CVO Trike immediately caught my attention. Soon after the CVO caught my attention, I caught the attention of a salesman of course.
I tried to make it clear from the start of our conversation that I would NEVER invest over $50,000 in a motorcycle. He kept throwing out little hints....."we have had this one for three weeks"....."it is getting close to the end of the month"....."I could get the paperwork done and get you on the road in 30 minutes"......you get the idea.
Finally I told him my Tennessee buddy had a deal to trade his 2017 Trike on a white CVO for $24,000 difference out the door. This didn't make him flinch. He insisted they would make me an offer I would trade at.
I came really close to suggesting a trade of my 2019 Trike and $10,000 out the door, which I was pretty sure he wouldn't take. But then I started to worry that he might come close to that figure so I cut off the conversation before it was too late.
Next time I have to take my TG in for something I'm waiting outside!

Joe, I started a thread on Bike Week 2020. Let me know if your interested.
"Who all is going to the 2020 Daytona Bike Week. Friday March 6th to Sunday March 15th. I am looking to set up a ride if we can get enough bikes. I also have a lot of parking at my shop for trailers and 4 wheelers if some need a place to park for the week or just a few days. Let me know and I can start setting up something."

I have a local friend who has gone to Bike Week and Biketoberfest every year for longer than I can recall . . . and he stays for the entire week. I've been once and once to Sturgis during bike week. Honestly I just don't get it. Having to contend with large crowds, traffic, overpriced everything is just not what I enjoy. Now if I was 'local' to the area I might pop in for a morning or afternoon just to check things out. But to travel 000s of miles, no thanks.
I much prefer the times I've been in these same areas but not during the events. Then I can really enjoy what the area has to offer . . . and oh yeah, the rides most of all. Just my $.02.
