Towing Capacity
Does anyone have info on the max towing capacity and max tongue weight for the Hannigan kit on a 2012 level III? Looking into camping trailer options and the lightest I've seen in a non tent trailer option is around 650-700 lbs.

Answer sent by PM. Posting here so everyone can benefit from his question.

Good Morning.
Saw your Post on Towing Capacity.
We normally state that the HMS Trike has a Towing Capacity of 500 lbs and Tongue Weight of 50-60.
However, the Trike will handle more than that but with a larger/heavier towed Unit there are increased demands placed upon the Suspension and Braking Assemblies. It also will vary depending on the weight of Rider-Passenger-Cargo placed upon the Trike itself.
You may have to dial up the pretension on the rear Shocks and obviously allow for increased braking distances. Do try and keep the Tongue weight to around 65-70 if possible. Not that the Hitch won't take it, just that with heavier Tongue weights and disproportionate balance there are Handling Issues that will come into play.
All that being said, you should be OK with the Camping style Trailer just be aware and compensate for the above and other like factors. Watch Curbs, Speed Bumps, etc. for increased chances of bottom-out.
Just common sense stuff.
Your HMS Trike will handle it.

Hope this helps. Should you have questions like this in the future or wish to discuss further, please give us a call (270-753-4256). We are always eager and willing to talk to our Owner Partners.
May see if Zoom will move or copy this to the Hannigan Information Desk so others can benefit from your Question and concern.

All the best to you and thanks so much for considering Hannigan ThumbUp

Thanks as well for the questions regarding the 180 Wide Front. I will do my best to address these this afternoon (as my compulsory Football watching will allow ;)) but regardless will definitely respond no later than tomorrow.

Thanks too to Dave Pope ThumbUp

I'm in the process of having the Hannigan kit and '180' installed on my '04 as I type. My installer, Mark Cole, of Cycle Specialties in Portland, Or., took it on a test run "in town" (his son, his chief mechanic, just had to as well) and their comment was "Wow!. I am awaiting completion of the body installation after which Mark (on a not-raining-day-in-Portland[??]) will take it down the Old Columbia Highway and wring it out. I'll post is comments as well as some of my own when the build is completed. At this point in the process, he is very impressed with the mechanicals of the assembly especially the ride quality and 'bump management'. As to the tire, I'd stay with what Hannigan provides unless conversation with them justifies a change

We appreciate the Honor of being chosen for your new Trike!
Should you ever need anything or have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know.
Also, we look forward to your thoughts and comments after receiving and riding your new Trike . Please post them in the "What Do You Like About Your Hannigan Trike" Thread here in our Section of Trike Talk.

Our gratitude for answering Rufus15 regarding the HMS 180 Wide Front and offering to post your experiences with it. He and all, us included, will benefit from your comments and opinions.

Rufus15, Mr. Pope, and All !
We greatly appreciate the opportunities and Reward of earning your Business and Trust and wish you many safe & enjoyable 3-Wheeled miles ahead.

Rufus15 and All,
The benefits of the HMS 180 Wide Front Conversion are both quite real and highly noticeable. It greatly enhances Ride, Handling, Safety, and Performance. We are sure that any of the Hannigan Owner Partners who have chosen this Option (more than 60 in the past 11 brief Months it has been available) will attest to these Facts.
That being said and true, we do not wish to insinuate or be construed as saying it is a "Necessity". This would obviously be incorrect. However, there in no doubt that it does make a marked difference for the better in every Facet of operation for not only our Trikes but any Trike.

We urge all who have the opportunity to test-drive a Hannigan Trike with the HMS 180 Wide Front Conversion to do us and yourselves a favor and please do so. We believe the "Proof is in the Pudding" and sincerely hope all will experience the Difference for themselves.
The same goes for the Hannigan Trike itself.
Experience the Hannigan Difference.
Ride Ours-Ride Theirs-Ride them ALL.
See for yourself.
Decide for Yourself.

Regarding the Front Tire, The HMS 180 Wide Front Conversion comes standard with a Michelin Commander II rear-compound Tire. So far in "real world" application in a variety of operating conditions and environments these are proving truly awesome results and astounding testimony for longevity unparalleled as pertains to front Trike Tires. Given the real results to date, we feel comfortable and confident that these will equate to 55,000 and probably more miles without issue.
As stated above, the Ride. Handling, Comfort, Safety and Performance are equally as superior. Again, not a necessity but the real Value and Benefit meets and exceeds the cost without fail.

I hope this helps and answers your questions and concerns. Should you wish to discuss further, please don't hesitate to give us a call. We are always ready, willing, and excited to address the questions and concerns of our Owner/Rider Partners.

All the best to you and thanks so much for asking these questions and the opportunity of being included in your Trike searching and consideration.

After two years of planning and research I just took delivery of my Hannigan trike on my 2008 Goldwing. Doug and Aran from American Trike and Motorsports in Keene, NH hit one out of the park on this one. If you're looking for a quality trike builder in New England, this is the place to go. I knew it would look good but it is beyond good. Aran even figured out a way for my Kury footboards and heel-toe shifter to work with the Hannigan foot fairings. If you are thinking about the 180 kit and are scared off by the price, please re-consider. It rides and handles like an expensive sports car.

Thanks to the folks at Hannigan for hand building an amazing trike and also to the members of Trike Talk that made all the research so much easier.

I have a 2005 BMW K12LT trike and would like to put a trailer hitch on it. The question I have is does it just bolt on or is there some welding or fabricating needed and where do you hook up the wiring for the lights? Thank you.
Randy

RandyG,
Thanks for your question and for your ownership of a Hannigan Trike ThumbUp

The Trailer Hitch is a direct Bolt-On with no welding or fab needed. No issues.

There are a couple of different ways to wire Trailer Lights. Tad more tedious on a K1200 (or any BMW) than the Hondas and others. I suggest you call in to 270-753-4256 and ask to be transferred to Jim or Brad. They can explain your Options to you directly a lot easier and with better detail and clarity on the phone.

Hope that answers your questions and thanks again!
Many Safe & Enjoyable Miles to you!

Do I need to buy this from a dealer or can I get it from the factory?
Thanks, Randy

Either way you wish. Up to you.
Price and Shipping will be the same either way.
But, if you purchase from and pick up at a Dealer Location, the Part will be subject to State Sales Tax.
From Factory there is no Sales Tax as it is then Interstate Commerce.

Should you wish to order from us, just give us a call.

I raised the question earlier this year about installing Ergo II footpegs. What I had to do was to purchase new 6 inch arms, and attach them on the vertical front bar instead of the horizonal bar and use my original peddles. That is the only was they can work. I love the ground effects on my new Hannigan kit, but they are challenging when it comes to foot accessories.

FRR,

I have a 2014 Hannigan Gen II trike and have Kury Ergo II highway pegs and they are mounted to the horizontal bar of the engine guards and right in front of the foot fairings as they were designed to fit with no problems. Thus ones with the 6", 4-1/2" and mini arms will all work as I have all three and have had the different arms on to get the best fit for me. I grant you that the bracket that mounts to the horizontal bar is a very close fit but it does work. Hope this helps. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

P.S. I didn't get a T-shirt

Thanks much Doc for that 1st-Hand Confirmation and experience regarding the Highway Pegs on GEN 2 Trikes :clapping:
Your Input is greatly appreciated and highly valued as usual
ThumbUp

Looking forward to your Opinions, Review, and Evaluation of the HMS 180 Wide Front.

Ride Height Comparison

John,

The front ride height with the 180 Front End on a 2014 Wing with a Gen II kit seems to be a fair amount lower than on an 06 Wing with a 08 Gen I kit with standard front end. I no longer have my previous trike to actually measure but just looking under the 2014 it seems quite low as compared to the room I had to change oil on my Gen I Trike. Can the front on the Gen II be raised an inch or so
fairly easily and if so, how? Thanks in advance for a response. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

Doc,
Are you wanting to just temporarily raise the front to perform the Service?
or,
Are you looking to find a permanent "lift"?

A permanent lift. I could reach under my old trike without any lift to change oil but this one is too low to get under to drain and change filter. I'm wanting to consider raising the front enough to level the trike (ie. have the aqua-shields level - the front of which is an inch lower than at the rear). Hopefully this is clear. Thanks. Doc

Gotcha Doc.
I was just being sure. I have forwarded to Jim and asked him to either get back with me or to call you direct on Monday.
Will keep an eye on the situation ThumbUp

Awesome weekend to you!

I recently purchased a 1999 GL1500 with Hannigan trike kit and am installing a trailer hitch. The instructions for the generic GL1500 harness says to access the wiring from below the trunk. The generic harness is supposedly plug-n-play. With the hannigan trike kit installed is this still the location to use to access existing wiring? Not so easy to remove the bottom of the trunk with the hannigan installed.

Bob,
Congrats on your Trike! May it provide you with countless safe and exhilarating Miles & Smiles ThumbUp

If that is how/where your Generic Harness says to tie into, then I advise you to stick with the Harness Manufacturer Instructions.
Should you need any assistance on the removal or replacement of the Top Box, please give us a call and we will help in any way possible.

Again, all the best to you and yours in your 3-wheeled Adventures that lie ahead.

My installer said there were no directions for the Transformer. Is this true? I want to add some lights and may want to take the body off. THANKS!!! You guys are GREAT

JT,
No Instructions that would provide enough detail at the present as the final version of the Install Instructions have yet to be finished. Call in if you need and we can get Jim or Brad on the phone with you.
Of course, if the Body does need to be R&R'd in order to do what you want, Perry is probably the best bet to perform or assist in that.

Hope that helps and still enjoying and appreciative of your Posts and kind words.
It's You & All our Owner-Partners that are "Great" ThumbUp

Trike maintenence

Does the Hannigan suspension system have grease fittings that require routine Maintenance, or any other routine work other than monitoring brake pad wear and maintaining the differential level.

I have 2006 GL1800 with Hannigan Kit installed in 2010. Is there a maintenance manual for this kit. Specifically torque measures for bolts and procedure for dropping drive-shaft for maintenance? I have heard conflicting procedures for drive-shaft maintenance.

Keith,
The only Zerks Fitting to be concerned with is the one at the rear of your Drive-Shaft forward of the Differential Input Spline.
Hit that once per Year and All Good.

Hope that answers your question and if not or to discuss anything else, just give us a call.
Awesome Day to you and yours!

Sad to say but many forums leave truth fogging miss-information completely unchallenged. I just read a post from a recently banned member that claimed TrikeTalk.com has been sold, just one of the many malicious fabrications this person is posting. You'd think maybe I would know about this? Where is that check???!!! ...LOL!

The TrikeTalk.com community and staff considers Hannigan Motorsports a valued partner of this forum. Hannigan's participation and support here is a valuable resource both to the Hannigan Company and our members, it's a great win-win for everyone. How refreshing to have a dedicated forum where members can field their questions and promptly get an answer straight from the manufacturer as well as feedback from other Hannigan owners. Having their questions fielded here on the open forum not only benefits the individual asking the question, but the thousands of others that monitor the Hannigan threads who also glean valuable information. The questions and answers are here for all to see and benefit from.

I am certain your daily participation instills a great deal of confidence in the Hannigan Brand.

Darn Randy and I thought I was out of a job moderating.

Yet again someone that doesn't play nice attacking this great place to exchange information. Even though Hannigan is a major sponsor, all brands are talked about and given their due equally. Guys you can't ask for anything more.

Not a question but a statement...

I just completed the order for my new Hannigan Transformer to be built at the factory. Jim Gooch and John Lee have been great to work with. They know their product!

They have been very accessible and more than willing to spend the time to talk with me and answer my questions.

That being said, I also need to acknowledge the value that Trike Talk has been to my decision. Bazooka, Clint44 and J.T.M. have all had good information. I must have spent two hours alone talking to Zook and Clint!

It is very obvious Hannigan takes care of their customers and those customers speak volumes of the product and experience. Kudos to all!

Park brake set up

Recently I had a brake cable failure on my 2007 gold wing with a hannigan conversion. I contacted my installer about the problem and got no where with them and finally contacted the factory direct and in a week the part was sent right to my door. Thank you for the excellent customer service on your part. I also requested from my installer a copy of the PDF file for the park brake install so I could make sure everything was there with no more problems and of course I never received
that either. Could you send me that information so I know everything is right
Thanks again

3 freedom,
So glad you received the Part you needed and were happy with the Service. We do appreciate your taking the time to post.

The Person you will need to speak with is Jim our Chief Trike Tech. He should be able to get you what you seek to confirm all is well with what you have and how it was installed.
However, Jim is on Vacation this week returning next Monday the 31st. If this can wait till then, please call in or email at your convenience and he can return the call or email with the Information you need.

Hope this helps. All the best to you and yours!
