What did you do to your Trike this week?

Rebuilt forks on my Lehman trike.

Found out the hard way about the Anti-dive valve on my 2010 GL1800/ Lehman trike. When it goes bad the seal doesn't just leak it Explodes the oil out all over the front of the trike. So I rebuilt the forks, (sliders, seals, dust seals, 10w fork oil) then I disabled the anti-dive with a 1/4 inch hole drilled in a nickel inserted between the two valves! It seems to take speed bumps easier and rides smoother. What's nice is the only plastic needing to be removed to slide the forks out are the fender parts.

Great. My seals let go and went unto the front brakes and I had to replace and clean everything. Also, found out Hannigan didn't put extensions on front forks, so in the spring will have the shop do it. It rides great right now, so when it is done, wow, it should be like a Cadillac! LOL
Where did you learn about the trick with the hole in the nickel? Sounds interesting.
Thanks for the update on front forks.

Mornin' Rosy, many of us have disabled the anti dive with some type of spacer. Some swear by it, some don't. Was surprised about your extensions on the Hannigan front forks, if you had the new/improved Hannigan front end installed, I thought that came with the package. I have the RS conversion, so not very familiar with the Hannigan, but I've heard some really good things about Hannigan.

Hannigan is great in my opinion, but Jim doesn't understand why my trike never had the extensions put in. Again, it is a 2002, does that make a difference, don't know. My shop, Paul, at Nault's, called Jim and spoke to him about my trike.
Parts are on the way from Hannigan, but trike is in the trailer being ready to go South to the Snowbird Rally after the Holidays. I believe parts won't be here in time, before the holidays.

Sounds good Rosy, safe travels to FL, maybe we can hook up one of these days. What city do you usually call home while in the Sunshine State?

New Smyrna Beach this year. Next year could be a different place, we will see.
Once we are in Florida we go riding with the "boys" that live in the area, after the Snowbird Rally in February.
Thought about the Snowbird Rally?
Rosy

Great, or you could meet us for dinner sometime. Even after the Rally is over, we will be there.
See you soon!

Great Brian, should help in controlling the dings from rocks and debris.
I found black Rustoleum paint matches my trike perfect, so I use it to cover the dings. Use a q-tip to put it on.

Good luck and we will see you and Cynthia this summer.
Let us know how well your new "bra" works.
Thanks for sharing!

I picked up the trike Saturday. The guy did an awesome job especially considering he had to do it all free-hand as there isn't a pre-made kit for my trike. If anyone in the Massachusetts area is interested in having it done, contact me and I will give you his contact info as I haven't been able to find a website for him. Comes with a 10 year warranty not to delaminate or bubble up.

Brian, do you have photos to post. That's great! Glad it came out the way you wanted it.

There isn't really anything that would show up in a photo. The stuff is really clear. Even if I wanted to, I'd have to get my son to post it for me as I'm still computer-disabled. (How's that for a new term?) He's too busy being a 21 year old to stay home long enough to ask him.

Your brake cylinder was completely replaced. Mine was tested and told it was OK. My trike rolls very freely so when the brake was dragging, the trike would not roll. I took it in to be tested and the problem was a bad caliper.

Spent the last two days wet sanding the clear coat that was put on after she was backed into. Used 1500 on the runs then 2000 then 2500 finished with 3000 grade. Now to buff with compound then final cut before the wax. Lot of work but there was a lot of orange peal to work out. Next project is install a set of Rocker Lockers for Evo's to test for Kevin at DK Custom Products. Sending me a set hope to have them in soon.:D

WOW, you are a complete mechanic, from body work to tuner!
Post pictures if you would..Like to see the progress as your baby gets fixed!
Thanks for sharing!

Rosy I am just an old guy who "use " to build choppers back in the Iron head days. Before Evo's let alone TC's :xzqxz: Some time I will post some pictures of my rides I build. My best was a red Sporty with Amen frame an 18 over springer called Death Ride. I will scan the pictures and post them sometime if you would like to see. Anyway learning all over again with Trikes, but it is fun.ThumbUp

I know what you mean about getting your ride to fit you! I did that this summer with my handlebars, put risers on, boy what a difference it made!
I keep telling people, tinker with your ride till it fits you, then you will know it's your ride.
Our ride fits Janice and I to the point we can go 12 hours in the saddle and feel great at the end. We did that from Dover, NH, to Woodbridge, Virginia to see our son, several times. That's why when people ask me if they can take my trike for a ride, I say, sure, but you won't like it, because it fits me, and I believe there is not another person like me, so I have been told! LOL

I just changed out from the Harley's Wind Splitter 7" windshield to the Harley's 10" Wind Splitter windshield. With the 7", when caught in the rain, the rain would run up the windshield and hit me directly in the goggles.

Need advise, most of us riding in the rain have had the rain come over the windshield and splash on our face, googles, or glasses. I have heard some riders but a trim around the windshield to stop or reduce the rain from coming over. Does this help?
I am vertically challenged (LOL) and I have a tall windshield, which helps, but in heavy rain, it still comes over.
If you do have a trim, please chime in, and if you have photos, please post.
Thanks

Just installed a Long Ride Shield "recurve ultra" in 9" . It's susposed to direct the wind & rain over your head. It is a to me xmas gift, so the only part that I can attest to is the wind part. Have not used it in the rain yet. I would think that no matter who's screen you have , hard rains will always win. Yet I am very pleased with the wind redirecting over my head. JMO

So, keep us in mind if and when you hit rain to see how the new windscreen works!
Still haven't heard from anybody who has the trim around the windshield. I know I have seen them on Goldwings, but can't recall if I have seen it on trikes.
Maybe if I pay attention to the avatars, of members, one will have the trim and I can contact them.
I can also see if the other web site I belong to has anyone with the trim, maybe that's where I have seen the trim. It is hell to get old! LOL

Went to my local powder coater only to find the bizness was relocated some 40 miles farther away, so I googled for another one. Found one only 10 miles away, bonus! Got a "for me" set of wind guards from Randy for Xmas. Happy new year to me, will be done Monday. :clapping:

Boy, you guys must have been good because I didn't get anything new for my trike. Boo...Whoooooo
Oh well, there is 2016 for some new Bling! LOL
Oh yes, need to put new rubber on the rear tires because my tire born dates are getting up there. I think the tires can go another 30,000, but the dates are getting old. You know what they say, better be safe than sorry. With my luck, they will not have the same Michelins tires as I have on now. You know how that is, you fall in love with a good thing, then they discontinue it or they change the tire. We will see!
Hope everybody had a good and safe New Year!

I ride a Stallion and I put a chrome trim around my windshield it's about 3/8" wide. It might help in light rain but in a heavy rain I can't tell it helps. The trim I put on was from my local parts store nothing special about it.

This week I replaced the factory speakers in my trike. The trike had Sony speakers and I replaced them with Pyle speakers. Sounds great:D

Ed, did you take any pictures of your upgrade on the speakers so the rest of the Stallion owners could see?
If you did but can't post them, maybe they could PM you to give you their email address so you can send them. That would be great.
How many watts does your system put out? Who system is it, Panasonic, Bose, or another?
Thanks for sharing.

Installed a power block on the Roadhawk. I got a 6 pin ATO fuse block, ran power from the battery through a relay connected to the license plate light so it is only hot when the ignition is on. Mounted both of these on a plastic base and that rig went into a small Sterilite box from Wallyworld. These are sort of like Rubbermaid containers but they have a locking flap on each side so the lid won't come off. Drilled holes for wires on the top and a weep hole or 2 to let any moisture out on the bottom. The best mounting place near the battery was low on the frame and i didn't want road grime, rocks or spray to mess up the power block, so that's why the box. I installed a coax power outlet for Gloria's heated jacket liner on a side panel, a cigarette lighter style outlet on the dash and another below the left passenger armrest.
If anyone is interested I can take some pictures and make up a diagram of the set up and post them tonight.

WOW, doing all that and the Holidays to boot, you were very busy.
That is great you took pictures, a picture is worth a thousand words! Did you think of RTV on the box and wires so no moister could have gotten inside to box?
Did you put your wife's heat jack on a potentiometer so she could regulate the amount of current running to her jacket?
Thank you for sharing?

Well, This seems like it will be a bit long.......

Took a while but here is what I did with the power distribution box.

I had already had the 16 gauge wire in different colors, the gray plastic for the base, a length of 10 gauge wire for the battery connection and ring & spade terminals. I bought the relay, ($6.99) fuse panel ($10.00) and the plastic box at Wallmart ($2.85) Less than $20 not including the stuff I already had. You can buy a relay controlled power distribution panel from $40 to more than $100, but this is easy to make and save some bucks. IMG_0916.JPGMounted on trike. The brake line looks close but has plenty of clearance. I didn't use a ground block, I grounded each outlet to a handy frame bolt to lessen wire runs, but a central ground block works, too.

Roadhawk powerblock.jpgHere is a diagram of what I did. All wires are 16 gauge except the power cables, they are 10ga. It is mounted on a plastic block and in a food storage bowl. The whole thing is on a bracket I made out of aluminium to mount close to the battery.

IMG_0918.JPGIMG_0919.JPGHere is the top showing the locking tabs, and the cover mounted. I marked the pins just in case. Rosy asked about RTV - I didn't want to seal it in case I needed to make changes or add circuits, and I didn't want to seal in moisture.

The reason for it all - the rear outlet under the passenger armrest, the front coax outlet under a spring loaded cover (Gloria will plug in the Gerbing's temp controller here.)The trike is jet black, it looks a bit gray due to reflection of a white cabinet. And lastly the front power outlet. I'll be adding a set of LED's in the rear, and that will leave 2 pins for future use.
