What did you do to your Trike this week?

Crush Washers

Well, I was going to change my oil, but guess what, yup, no crush washers!
So, trip this AM to local shop and purchase a few to have on hand.
Yes, one thing is true, when you replace just about anything on a Goldwing, Tupperware is your time consuming thing, and as your Baby gets older, the more careful you have to be so you don't snap tabs!
A couple of tabs could cost you over $500 to replace a panel, so be very careful!
Good Luck!

I changed rear end oil in differential of my Champion S/A. I almost gave up trying to remove drain plug which was factory tightened. Not having an impact wrench I had to use a 2 1/2' cheater on my wrench to break it loose.

Filter Wrench

OK, I need advise from those who change their oil.
I use an expandable oil filter wrench to take off & put on my oil filter, as a 3/8" socket cap type will not fit on to the filter because of the Tubberware I have on the trike.
It takes me forever to change the filter, unless I raise the trike off the ground on planks.
What do you use to change your oil, and did you always use it, or did you go through the same senerio I am going through till you found the one you use now?
I have seen different types, but which one works better in tight spots?
I you could, would you please take a photo and post it, or PM me so you can email it to me.
Thanks for your help

Rosy this is what I use for an oil filter wrench. Been using it for 8 years and never had an issue. I found the offset handle works better for the filter than the straight handle. It fits all filters for the 1800 and all Honda car except Fram PH6607. For draining the oil I went and bought a tupperware storage bin. Measured the height under the trike and then cut out the bottom of the storage tub. It fits nicely under the trike.

My oil catching pan works great, it's the filter wrench that's the problem.
Thank you very much for the information.

Yes, you are correct..three wheel lift are great if you have a place to put them, but if you don't then you make do with what you have.
I guess the old way to do it was using an old scissor Jack under the motor of a GL 1800, so you could get the wrench under the trike to the filter.
Oh to have a garage and all the tools you need to work on all your vehicles. Some people I envy with all the stuff I dream of.
I will get the oil filter wrench and give it a try.
Thanks everybody for your help.

Rosy, my sentiments exactly. I use the light weight hydraulic from Walmart, 'bout $20, piece of small one by on the lift function under the motor and jack it up. If I have to get under the rear end I can run it up on the ramps, or something simple on one side, use the same aforementioned procedure.

Do you have a photo as to where you put it? I put a 12volt plug right behind the back rest so Janice could charge just about anything we needed. When we use the GPS, she plugs it in to keep it charged.

Hi Rosy, here's a pic of the unit it got from Amazon, it's simple and not expensive. Took it right off the m/c battery teminal, polarity is well marked. Got tired of the SENA battery pooping out on me after about 6 hours.

That's a great idea..the newer type electrical gizmos have the USB type plugs.
I guess we are still in the "old" times, because most of our "stuff" has the cigarette type plugs.
But, if need be, we have a conversion type plug from cigarette to USB type plugs.
Thanks for sharing!

My pleasure, I did a lot of 'looking' to figure out what would work for me. I'm sort of simple, so my heated gear sae connections, then my USB for the SENAs wiring just runs off the battery, through an opening in side cover right where the battery lives, walla, good to go and pretty much out of the way. I know there are more sophisticated of doing it, but I wanted to keep simple, I wanted to understand and get the polarity right, and the price was right. The deal is, if you're all plugged in, gotta remember to 'unplug'. :D Happy trails.

Changed the oil and filter on my 93 GW with MT kit today . Been 6k since I changed it last and it didn't use a drop . The motor has 59k on it so I figure it's probably good for another quarter-million or so ( hope I didn't jinx it :cxtv:). Anyways just wanted to say you gotta love them old Honda's!

What did you do...

Lets see, I went over to the shop where it was unloaded.

A. We redrilled the pedal mounts for my longer legs,
B. Adjusted the mirrors,
C. Tried to start it, ran horribly
D. Finally managed to leave shop
E. Trike died 6 times in 6 blocks
F. Called the AMA and received a free tow,
G. Took it to my VW guy to fix, and thats were my Boom Trike is I just bought.
H. Called M&M Autosports and gave them hell about the running condition, which they guaranted was perfect
I. Sitting on my derrier waiting for the repair shop to get ahold of me.

Unloaded what was left in the trike after we got the essential stuff out when we got home from Maggie Valley last night. Then took out everything that stays in permanently, cleaned both trunks, under-speaker and front fairing pockets. Then washed the trike of the road grime and water spots. A coat of wax and a polish finished it off. Then cleaned out and washed/waxed the trailer.

WOW, you will be polishing chrome forever! LOL
But, it sure looks good!
Will the chrome help with the heat of the jugs or are they for looks?
Sure looks purddy!

Road hwy 63 in Oklahoma coming back to Texas after camping in Petit Jean park Arkansas and trike held together. Road looks like it was a 1939 or 1940 build and never repaired. WOW :AGGHH:

You are correct, you look at Rt. 66 in parts and they haven't repaved since the war! LOL
But, you can say the same for parts of Rt. 95, they have pot holes which will hide a state trooper! WOW
On the way to DC, with my Brother-in-law was following me, he told me the trailer was jumping clean off the ground at times when I hit some of the pot holes, never felt it on the trike.
So, even major routes in the USA are bad, the taxes can't keep up with the repairs!
There are some roads that are major bottle necks, which need to be expanded, may be after I die will they be fixed.

I installed a blackwing fork brace this week. I really like the way it tightened up the front end. It took most of the head shake out of the trike, it is a 93GW with a 99MT kit . Be sure and Follow the instructions all the way, mine wasn't quite as easy as the video. But I think it was worth the money .

You a very correct about a fork brace doing all those things and more. That's why major conversion companies recommend or put them on.
When I had my 2 wheel older Goldwing, that's one thing I did was to put a brace on the front end. Really stabilize the front end's wobble.
Did you take photos, if you did, please post them on how to, or let us know where the video is about installation.
Thanks
Rosy
