Trunk Latch Problems.

The trunk latch on my 98 Goldwing SE was broken when I bought it. You could not lock it shut either with the key or the latches inside. The plastic piece inside that hold the opener rod was broken in several places and the latches were broken.

I purchased the piece that has the plastic cover on the inside with the opener rod and the manual says to place the opener rod under the latch when installing which I did. I turned the key to the right so I could use the levers to open the trunk and I could not remove the key as instructed on the placard inside the trunk. Nothing happened, and the latches do not move when the levers are pulled. Thankfully I hadn't closed the lid.

Any ideas on what is wrong would be appreciated.

Thanks

First off .... Welcome to the Gang.

My guess ... those latches are really sensitive towards alignment/adjustment. I would loosen it up and "wiggle" it and try it ... sometimes it's just off a hair and the "wiggle" gets it there.
