Tri Glide Reverse Motor Falls Off!

Greetings again fellow Trikers! Well, I Just got the Trike back from the dealer and the motor was replaced. Here is basically what transpired. The dealer only took 10 days to replace the motor, but had to argue with Mother Harley to get them to agree that this was a warranty issue! The motor company maintained that I was trying to reverse up big hills or didn't fully stop before going forward! All total bull! The darn thing fell off without any help from me! I have to say my dealer went above and beyond on this one and in the end the repair was covered under warranty. There is much to be said for establishing a good relationship with the dealer and especially the guys who service the bike. This is my 4th bike from this dealer and I do purchase quite a bit of merchandise at the store throughout the year. I always made it my business to get to know the employees on a first name basis and always treat everyone with respect. So I guess they know me and it paid off. Yes I know the trike has a two year warranty and this should be covered no questions asked, but sometimes I think Harley doesn't want to admit that there are problems with some, not all, of their stuff! It appears, from speaking with the service manager, that riders out there are having numerous reverse motor issues, this according to the Harley home office! Gee think perhaps there could be a design flaw?? In any event I am back on three wheels and hoping this is the last mechanical issue I encounter other that routine maintenance. So my story had a happy ending. I would also like to plug Bergen County Harley Davidson in Rochelle Park NJ for all their efforts. Good people there! Here is wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable summer. Ride on brothers and sisters and have fun! Life is way to short!!

The HD Mother Ship never wants to admit they are wrong while the bike is under warrenty. It obviously costs them money to fix it. They can really come up with some lame excuses.

Glad to hear U R back on the road. and that everything is ok..

U might want to connect a tether chain to this one, atleast if it falls off again U will still have it.....

Ride safe and enjoy......

Great news, Guiderider! It is always good to hear a positive report on a dealer/service department. Thanks for sharing that.

This is the exact crap from Harley that is really starting to burn me up. In the past if there was a warranty issue it was simple to get it taken care of. Now it seems there is a big rolling fur ball to get something taken care of. I really enjoy my Triglide but I don't think I'll buy another Harley if this is the way they want to do business.

Does anyone make a good reverce for trikes?? My motortrike reverce sucks and they keep saying they are working on a new one, [for the last three years]. if anyone can come up with one, there would be a good market for it $$$$$$$$

Baker has a unit , Champion also has a kit. What trouble are you having with your Motortrike reverse? Haven't heard of a problem before. Some of the Trikes on here are thinking of going with Motortrike or any other kits. If there is a problem it would be nice to know.
I understand the Champion does do a bit of grinding putting it in gear, but not a real problem.

I have the Moto-Trike reverse in my 11T/G, It will grind a little ''IF'' you try to put it in reverse at an high idle.. ie; Engine cold, Once its at a normal idle it just snicks in.
My Polaris ATV will do the same.. So I know the drill..

I had the Champion reverse on my 00 Classic Champion trike until I traded it for my 13 Anniv. TG. Champion advised on how to engage without grinding (most of the time). If I ever have to replace the motor on the 13 I might put in the Champion. I was happy with it. Warning, if you wanted to, you can reverse as fast as you can go forward in first gear.

In a couple of years I'm gonna have a Jonny Cash black Harley! What year will it be?? ......It'l be a 49,50,51,52,53,54,55,56 .................:pepper:

From what he said :

when I got home and cleaned the bike, stuck to the top of my exhaust pipes, were fragments of the magnetic brushes from the motor! Total destruction. I am surprised I did not sustain more damage to the drive train

Sounds like it exploded. Doubt if there's anything left to cause quandary or put up on eBay...!!!!

Think I see some green Loc-tite and safety wire in my reverse motor set-up's future.
