The good and bad of a 2012 tri glide?

Man everyone has there own opnion on this topic. Have you test drove it yet??

If not go for a test ride and with 2 up and make your own opinion.

I find mine has plenty of power and works fine with 2 up. I will admit tho on real hot muggy days it can get hot on the right side. But if you get a tuner it will keep the heat down..

Good Luck..

OH, MY GOD!!!

If you don't get a tooner your leg will catch fire, the bike will only get 15mpg and can't get out of it's own way.:D

Wife and I ride pretty near bone stock Tri's. An 09 and 11. Been all over the South-West and love the scoots. Have fun, put at least 5000 miles on her before you go nuts with 'goodies'

Good Luck!

Like everyone is saying ride it!!! But to be sure test ride one first and make sure it fits your needs...

Good Luckk

Like everyone says ride it, your going to have to form your own opinion as to whether its too hot or under powered for you. Myself personally, I have an issue when my right leg is on fire and I get a 140 degree temperature when I check the temp of my pant leg with an IR temp gun. This is what I had with my 2010, Harley Davidson and the dealer said it was normal. They did later on come out with a download to quell some of the heat, I guess they had enough of the bitching and decided to try and help those who were being slow roasted.

OMG. You mean there was a reason why Harley stuck an apple in my mouth before riding off on a TG? :D:D

This slow roasting thing is for the birds. (no pun intended) When you ride the TG at night and a fellow rider asks you what the red glow is next to your floorboards then it becomes serious. The 09 doesn't have a cat to glow red so they ran a bit cooler but just... I mean, just come on! Really?

140* temp on my right leg bluejeans is just stupid.

Never buy a bike unless you ride it first. Don't just ride it around the block, take it out for an hour or more. Maybe for the weekend, rent one. :GL1800:

Ride one first, but If you get a great deal on it, you should have enough money left over to make any or all changes you may want if needed.

I have a 2012 and love it - I don't have a heat problem that I can't live with. I've riden in all kinds of 100*+ temps and in gridlock situations.

I also don't ride around in shorts as some people do and then complain about the heat.

The first order of business is to test ride one. Take it around town but also out on the highway. Find some hills if possible and do this all 2 up. You have to decide for yourself if it is too hot or not enough power.

I have a 2011 TG and the first thing I did at the 1K check was switch to synthetic oil and have the cat removed. That helped cool it down. About a month ago I had the stage 1 a/c, CVO slipons and PCV added and that made a difference as well. The thing is the first 1K I put on it was in 80's and 90's and while i thought it was hot I didn't feel like I was being slow roasted. Now the other day while riding in lower 60's temps I kept the lower fairing vents closed as it was pretty cool on the legs/knees. As for power we have riden thru the mountains of Montana, Idaho and some of Wyoming both before and after the stage 1 update and had no problems with power. This is 2 up with a fully loaded trike on a 10 day road trip.

Most of the time I could even stay in 6th gear but a couple times did require downshifting to 5th. I usually run about 78 to 80 on interstate and 70 on 2 lane and occasionally 75 on 2 lane in Montana where 2 lane speeds are posted at 70.

I love my TG and the wife loves to ride on it. She saids she is as comfortable on it as our current and previous Lexus (minus the ac and reclining seats). You just need to decide for yourselves if it is right for you.

2011 Merlot and Black TG, Dennis's deflectors and lift kit, LED headlight and taillights, tour pak relocated back, cat removed and stage 1 with CVO slipons and PCV. Bling of course.

The best option to change your TG is miles. After you put a few thousand on it, you will know what you want from it.
I have done several things to ours but hands down, the best thing done has been taking trips on it. I feel it is by far the best Harley I have owned for taking trips. Yes, the summer of 2011 was by far the hottest I can remember and being stuck in traffic was brutal. But hey, if I had gotten off trike and just stood on the side of the road it would have been brutal.
As I own a TG, I can praise it and curse it all in the same breath, like about all things I own. Would I buy another one? Without a doubt, Yes!
My motor is stock, have cut out CAT and wrapped the stock headers, installed an air cleaner and a tuner. Going out on the road with it, doesn't take much time to remember why I ride one, it doesn't get much better.
This post like all the others on a forum are just someone's opinion, take the TG out and form your own, that is the opinion that really matters.

I find myself racing through these threads in anticipation of how various members will react. As always, they are entertaining as well as predictable. :D:D:D:D:D

The truth of the matter, without emotion and very well supported commentary is located in the A+B=C Sticky at the top of the Harley Trike Forum. You can pretty much tell what and how the Triglide makes heat. No matter what you hear about how tough you are or aren't, you can read that A+B=C authored by Wizard and see some objective information about the Triglide overall. What I like the most about that thread is that it offers some real good ideas about how to address the "real" issues. :10:

You will have a blast owning a Triglide. Aside from some unpredictable bouts of vertigo, I am perfectly able to stay on 2 wheels but freely choose to ride on 3 wheels because I think it's pretty darn cool and a heck of alot of fun. :Trike1:

How you address your own "toughness" as it applies to heat, ride quality, etc., is up to you and your wallet. But you won't be disappointedThumbUp

That is what I told the talking head on the other end of the phone when I was talking to customer service. The guy just couldn't believe I was upset about a Harley which was operating to what they considered as normal.

In the end I ended up doing what I figured I have to do, take matters into my own hands. To believe I actually figured I could leave a Harley stock and ride it:laugh:

I have only put 10K miles on mine but it has been great with 2 up and in all temps. I and the wife are hefty and it performs great. I have a Screamin Eagle air cleaner and Rinehart Racing 4" slip on mufflers. I've ridden from south Texas to Colorado, Oklahoma and Alabama in temps well over 100.

PS; typically I get 33-34 mpg.

I havnt even picked mine up yet, but I got a deal good enough to be able to put the Stage IV kit, a set of pipes, mufflers and a PV tuner on it and pay only MSRP!

Nothing like a great deal to put a smile on ones face, got to be a nice feeling to be able to make some great mods and still be setting pretty on the price.

Absolutely!! Going Saturday to give them the check for the balance of the cost, and tell them what mods I want done before I pick it up, medically I had a setback yesturday but the dealer is being great, they'll do the mods and store it till Spring for me (storage is free)

Sounds like you have a great dealer your doing business with, which dealer is it? I might have stopped by this past July while my dad I and a friend where touring the area, we staid in North Conway for several days.

I have had my 09 since last Feb 2012 put about 7000 miles on so far and have to say it was one my best buys ever - would def buy another one - mine is stock and have no trouble with power it is hot but after is air cooled

Make your own decision. Some will tell you they are no good, some (like me) will tell you they are great. My wife and I really like our 12 TriGlide. It gets 37 to 39 mpg. It has plenty of power, even riding two up. I did de-cat it and it cooled down my right leg, my wife no longer has hot foot. I even got a slight increase in power from the de-cat. I ride in the mountains of western NC and eastern TN, the baggers can't keep up because they drag their boards. Again, try it out and make up your own mind. Those saying they only get 15 mpg and have no power must have problems that I don't.

My bride and I certainly enjoy and like ours. Just like everything that you buy there are trade offs and problems with anything new. Are there better out there or worse, probably. Only you can deceide what you want.

did your MPG increase after the cat was removed?? and did you retune your trike after the cat was removed??

Wife and I went on a 350 mile day ride this last week. I noticed that she was not buzzing my ears with commentary over the intercom. She had fallen asleep!! At 104 lbs, she complains if I hit a bump she catches air off the seat. Going to a Stage 1, reduced the heat that she felt on her right foot. Now she feels not heat. If you do mods, take a before pic. It is amazing how the look will change. I wish I had done the before pic. Good luck....Mike
