Summer's coming on - time for some heated grips!

Catchy title, eh? But, I really do need some help/advice on installation of heated grips. I am in the process of upgrading my handlebars with Khrome Werks 2+2 Sweepers and since I plan on putting heated grips on at some point, this seems like the best time to do it. I hope these bars will solve some of my lower back issues from having to reach for the stock bars. I am 5'10" and wear a 34" sleeve length, but I find myself riding with fully outstretched arms and leaning a bit forward. Not a comfortable riding position. I took one of y'all's advice and sat on the bike with my eyes closed and just extended my arms to a comfortable riding position. Sure enough, I was over 2-3" shy of the stock bars. Never had that problem with my '07 Ultra.

The grip problem I am trying to solve is that the only heated HD grips I see that have a "through-the-bars" wiring install are the stock rubber ones that come on the Ultra Limited. While they would work and are cheaper, I wouldn't mind having them a bit more dressy since I have already blown the budget on other chrome dress up stuff.

Has anyone put the Streamliner or Contoured Chrome heated grips on their 2014 or newer Tri-Glide? If so, were you able to feed the left side wiring through the bar or did you have to go out and around the left side switch housing to install them? I am not really interested in grinding away at part of the grip and switch housing as I have seen done in some YouTube vids. If I can't do it right then I will go with the plain rubber grips.

The issue with using "inside the Bar" heated units as opposed to the actual heated HD grips is the air gap created by the Throttle by Wire on the right. For years I used Heat Demons and really liked the affordable option as well as being able to use any grip I liked. Now the last couple of bikes have the new throttle....seems in this instance the HD solution, for now, is the best. Hope someone else can make a liar out of me....jc

If you really want to solve your problem and I know they are expensive but Helibars will solve the issue. I have had them on both my trikes since 2009 and really love them. I to am the same height as you.

I also installed the 2+2 sweepers and installed the contoured heated grips on my 15 tri. I did wire them internally but I did have to grind the inside corner of the switch pack housing for the wires to pass. It won't work to run the wiring around the outside of the housing and feed wiring into hole. Just grind a little at a time and keep checking for clearance. If you take your time you won't even be able to tell. Also the 2+2 sweepers did relieve the shoulder and lower back pain I would get after hours of riding

Thanks to all of you for the quick replies. Sounds like I am on the right track with getting extended bars and confirming my suspicions that only the "stock" Harley heated grip wiring can be installed without doing modifications. Now, it's decision time for me. I need to get this all done before my 600 mile trip to Nebraska at Easter. (Sweating)
