Just curious about these, does anybody have them on their trike. Their are quite a few on ebay at different price points. If I remember right RJS orginals was the first one selling these, he has them at $225 for the pair, now their are other ones on ebay that range from $165.99 to $199.99 and a few prices in between.

Would they all be the same even the cheaper ones or does anybody know??? I know after every ride I wipe down my rims and that is getting pretty old doing this but I liked them clean and shiney, I have polished them up and I do this every year at the begining of riding season and they stay good all year, if I didn't clean I'm sure they wouldn't look good at the end of the year. According to the discs that prevents the brake dust from the rims. I also see that RJS has them in black, just 3M film on the stainless disk, not sure how they would hold up, I like those since my bike is black LOL

I actually reached out to RJS just this past September (on eBay since he lists them there too) and asked him a few questions.
(I’ve been eyeing these up as well, but never pulled the trigger on any of them yet).
(The pics are numbers in case the pics get posted out of order of our conversation).
Im still 1/2 tempted to try the cheaper ones… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hope this info helps!

I had these SS Disc on my 2016 Tri Glide and now on my 2020 Tri Glide. With a total mileage 70+ miles since installation. I have never had a wheel loosen up or feel that the wheels are out of balance. I bought them from RJS Orginals.

I also have toyed with the idea of getting those disks. After I had my rims chromed, they got easier to take care of so I put it on the back burner. It still would be nice to have them though.

I have had RJS disc on two different trikes, currently have 35,000 on this trike and have had zero issues with balance. The weight of these discs is minimal compared to the mass of the wheels and rims. And being a Tool and Die maker for 46 years with the last 20 working for GE Aerospace I am very well aware of how rotating mass can affect balance.

Some of them are not mirror polished, so be careful what you buy. I would only buy from RJS, you pay cheap you get cheap.
Totally agree on quality parts.
I think this comes back to the original question that the OP (Trampas) has (along with a few others) … that some listings also claim “mirror polished”.
I know that RJS has a reputation of a good product…. The question is now other sellers also claim mirror polished for a lot cheaper.

For what they are, and where they go… is there really going to be any truly noticeable difference? $140 vs $225 is quite a bit of $$ difference.

Good parts aren’t cheap…. Cheap parts aren’t good. I also believe that, but depending what and where the part is and where it goes… in this case, (polished stainless wheel rear wheel disks)…. Is this a aftermarket part that is really going to be noticeable?
I think that is the main question that the OP has, and others curiousity as well.

Here’s a link on a cheaper pair on Amazon:

The thickness is what you have to be careful of, to thin and they will rattle, like every thing else. Pay your money and take your chances.

I bought a set from RJS for my 2016 trike forget price ,but they still look like new on my 2020. worth every penny.

Come on guys. Robert J. Schoonover (RJS) is an American small businessman who first developed the stainless steel wheel discs for our TGs. Now that he is successful you know who is wanting in on the party with cheaper versions. Are they as good - same quality material - same thickness - polished as well? I have no idea. But I do like supporting small entrepreneurs here in the good ole US of A. Had his wheel discs on two TGs for many 000 of miles with absolutely no problem. So loosen up your wallets and give this guy your business.

If you pull a big travel trailer with alloy wheels, you’ll quickly learn about the phenomenon of the lug nuts loosening up.

It has nothing to do with RJS’s discs or being right handed threads on an opposite axle. I don’t know the exact mechanism why it happens, but aluminum is softer and I suspect it has something to do with the softer ductility of the material compressing as they are tightened, then heat cycling from braking heat. It’s seems worse with new rims being mounted for the first time.

I always carry a torque wrench in my truck when I’m pulling a trailer. After I’ve had a wheel off, I initially torque it. Then after driving 100 miles, pull over and check them and almost always one or two will be a bit loose. I’ll check them again when I get fuel, then again the next morning when they are cool. After about the 3rd time of checking, they are good and I don’t have check them anymore.

With steel wheels, I never have them loosen up.

As a side note, On my trailers, I found a lug nut several years ago that were called something like a 2 piece captured conical swivel washer lug nut. They were advertised as not coming loose after the initial torque and I put them on all my trailers. I’ve looked for them since and can’t seem to find them now.

Seems like they would cause the brakes to over heat from too little air flow. Maybe not on a easy cruise but how about in the twisties with slower speeds and braking heavy?

Thanks for all the replies, if I pull the trigger on these I will go with the RJS ones, as he said in the post with 14TG his is thicker, maybe the others are good also, don't no, but RJS has been doing this for many years and I should have bought from him many years ago when they was cheaper and he was the only one selling these at the time.

I will agree and most likely do the same and get a pair of the RJS over this winter. 🍻

About your question as to how the black vinyl will hold up. 1st let me say,... this is RJ and to answer your question. I had a spare wheel disc here at my shop. One that I can experiment with. It had the gloss black 3M top quality vinyl on it and I decided to sand it off. Me using 80 grit sand paper with an orbital sander. I couldnt get it to sand off. Maybe if I stayed at it for an hour or more. I dont know, except that I didnt have a hour to see if I cold remove it. But the results I got. It was tougher to remove than powder coating. RJ

Well I called RJS orginals yesterday and ordered the stainless discs but I chose to go with the black ones, my trike is black and hoping it looks good with the black discs on it, the rims are stock and but I have them polished up and I think I will do more polishing on rims before I install the black discs. Maybe at a later date get some chrome rims. He doesn't take credit card but does paypal which I have never did, first time yesterday doing it, he said it is easy and you don't have to join paypal, I guess everything went well since it has went thru my bank as paypal.

I won't put the discs on until spring since I have the trike put up for the winter, up on J & S jack and all covered up, to cold right now and I hate cold weather some parts of Iowa got snow already, not much but enough I hate it already LOL

Sweet! & can’t wait to get updates from you when you can.
I do PayPal Invoicing all the time thru my “KustomFX”. Payments are through PayPal, but exactly what you said: you do NOT have to be a PayPal member. It’s a great system! Anyone can pay with PayPal (if you’re a member), Venmo, Apple Pay, or any major credit or debit card. And both parties are protected. One of the safest ways to online pay!

(I will most likely order a set from him this winter too)!

The reason I questioned the heat is from my sports cars racing and performance rally experiences.
My BIL was given a set of experimental plastic wheels for his rally car. They did not transfer heat as well as metal and started his brakes on fire and destroyed his wheel bearings.

I put a front spoiler on my racer and lost my brakes after 5 laps when the air duct came loose.
I know we aren't racing but some extreme twisties and down hills create the same demand on brakes.

So you know,... the SS wheel discs are set within the mag. They do not block the air flow that cools the brake discs. Every time the brakes are applied. Brake dust goes every where under your trike and even migrates through the openings between the mag spokes. When I came out with the discs idea. They were added with the intention of a cosmetic appeal. A way to dress up your stock mags, instead of purchasing newer mags. It wasn't till after a couple sales. That I realized that the discs were greatly reducing the brake dust from coating the cosmetic side of the mags.

Trampas: I just wanted to make mention that the grit sand paper I said I used to try and sand off the 3M vinyl heat set film. It was 120 grit, not 80.

No problem, I received the discs yesterday, packaged up pretty good, I opened so far and I seen you have some way of keeping the discs stainoary in package so I didn't go any further with it, I put them in the closest until spring and then put them on, can't wait until spring.

I, like you, would like to have these on my Trike but I'm somewhat concerned the extra thickness and weight could affect the torque of the lug nuts. I tighten mine to 100 lbs and check them a few times during riding season (they've never come loose). When you add extra thickness and weight to a rotating mass you would think there would be some type of adverse effect. Ever since I've seen pics of tri-glide crashes due to a rear wheel coming off messing with them scares the crap outa me. Don't need that to happen at any speed! To me the cosmetic change isn't worth the risk.
That's the reason i haven't pulled the trigger on them - even though I have wanted to.
