Post Your Home Built Trike Pics

Getting Plate tomorrow on My New Build

I am pretty excited knowing that tomorrow I should be able to be on the road. Finally. I started this project on New years day 2009. With a limited budget I knew it would be slow, but I have been taking far too long on this trike. Electrical and other issues almost made me give up, but I would just ignore it for 6 months and come back to it after I forgot what the problem even was. Anyway I still need to drive a few miles and then build a body to cover the mechanics. But here it is so far..... Top pic. shows where I am now, and bottom is what I started with.Trike 1001.jpgTrike 027.jpg

My first homemade was also back in 2009 just after my first Spyder test ride.

2nd was the Valk3 a year later

and now it's no longer a hobby but a business, on my 3rd sporttrike for this year so far

FunkyOld Man - I stand amazed at your build. It makes me want one just like it to let me put my own cosmetics to it. Nice use of the VW fender. Great job on the engineering and fabrication!

My winter project

Love your trike. VERY VERY COOL !

Thanks. I appreciate the compliment. Nothing very fancy or highly polished but it is working well. Drove it all week trying to break it and it's holding up great. Added a steering damper, wind shield, storage area, etc. I am hoping to get it ready to drive to Texas in August to visit my folks. About 1000 miles each way. Not sure if I should try it this early :)

you know
I would take a few shorter trips with a cell phone handy and some one to call ...you probably don't need to ask why I suggest this do you,,,, :)
ya I've had a few problems a-rise on projects that are new to the road!! always got them worked out..... some took longer that others:xzqxz:

I'm mostly done with the mechanical stuff. I probably need to quiet it down a bit.

Still got to tackle the body work.

What do you think?

Bill

I've made quite a lot of progress on the body work. I may be finished, not quite sure.

Perhaps too late to ask but does any one have any appraisals as to how durable these DNA axles are?

I like the way you did your steering. I may set mine that way when and or if i install the power steering setup i want to use.. You did a super build and I like is a lot. Thanks for posting pics and giving me a great idea for my power steering project..:D

Jip !! it took some hell of a lot of thumb sucking on some problems. Where to put the fuel tank, battery etc. Have to keep the CG in mind to. Having driven it a few kilo's, I must admit that the steering is a bit heavy. Also had some " head shake";

in the beginning, and had to move the two steering rods closer to the center on the first triple tree. I now have a 1:1 steering ratio.

I was thinking of a powered steering, but have no clue where to start. Would love to see how you master that one. You can also contact me at arnieann@lantic.net.

assuming you have a motorcycle style front end....the power steering you seek is a set of raked trees...or a leading link or earls type front end

basically u go from driving a lorry with no power steering to driving a mg with power steering!

Not having to turn that often, one might learn to live with it. But,, being over seventy, a power steering would be nice. Over here in South Africa you have to dodge pot holes all the time.

If you drive strait on our roads, you are considered drunk.

I am not familiar with those goodies you mention for power steering. Could you place some pics? and more info plse.
