North Carolina

Pictures and videos of the Maggie Valley/Waynesville/Asheville areas look pretty bad. Saw a video of Soco Road coming into Maggie Valley looking like a river.

It is a total disaster. Some towns such as Chimney Rock Village are wiped out. Many bridges including on I 40 are out. Towns are isolated with no power. It will be a long road back for many. If you wish to help with a donation I suggest Samaritan's Purse as they are one of the lowest overhead charitable organizations going. That way your cash goes to helping rather than feeding a bureaucracy.

My son in law works for Duke energy and went up there to help rebuild some substations. He says it’s so bad it’s easier to bulldoze some and start fresh. He said it’s really bad ,they are north of Asheville near Weaverville.

From what I've seen I agree with him.Hot Springs is horrible as i'm sure alot of areas are.Its good to see our North Carolina folks posting. I was worried about you guys. It's going to take a bit to see what buildings will survive but afraid alot are going to have to be torn down.We all saw how quickly things can be brought back a few years ago but it wasn't as widespread by any stretch of the imagination.

After the boss and I were there (Asheville) last month we decided it would be an annual trip for us. I'm guessing we won't be able to repeat in 2025. Really friendly folks all over that area. Hoping that all the missing are mostly just missing and not worse.

It will be very different for sure but these areas depend on tourism dollars for support. While now is not the time to go they will need people to keep coming for the area to survive. The faces may change but the people will be there. They will rebuild. It was no where near this scale but I remember 3 yrs ago when Clyde was completely flooded and the Cruso community was nearly wiped out. They both have come back quickly. This has set them back but I have confidence it will return.

Here at Firebase Jackie we are high and dry. Pretty much self sufficient at our mountain 2nd home. Sometimes animals are smarter than humans. The goats refused to go into their hooch for the storm which got blown down. Same with the chickens. Instead they took up residency in one of the zig zag trench bunkers. Had to put the magnetos for the barrels of Foo gas up high out of reach of nosy nose goats. They did manage to topple over one of the M60's (semi auto) tripod and all. Down below there are two expectant moms and 3 with newborns. Of course they get all the goats milk and eggs they need. I've been taking spoting shots out to pre registered targets up to 400 meters with my Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle using a ching sling from a rice paddy squat. I still got it. This afternoon I think I'll jump on the D8 and open some roads seeing our commie governor Roy "Chicken Coop" Cooper dosnt give two shits about Red communities.

My wife and I were on a cruise celebrating our 48th Anniversary when Helene hit, we got back to Florida on that Saturday.
we live an hour north of Knoxville. Driving up through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and east Tennessee took twice as long as normal because of so many roads that are out. the Damage left us speechless.
some of the major highways will be out until mid 2025 or longer not to mention state and local roadways that were lost.
and in the mountains that one road may be the only way in and out of an area for hundreds of families.
the local airport has pilots flying donated supplies into areas in North Carolina and Tennessee south of Knoxville.
and the company I work for has taken truckloads of supplies Donated by the community down to the storm ravaged areas.
we were lucky , we live just an additional hour to the north of Knoxville and only had minor damage.
the community support in this area is amazing.
