New Oil Filter For M8 Engine HD Service Bulletin M1510

I bet they think this may help the sumping issues:p I have always been a big fan of larger oil filters However why now as Alan said in his post. The MOCO is up to something here, look how many oil pumps they have redesigned already in a quest to fix the oil problems on the M 8 engines.

Discussion on another forum talked of the filter allowing more flow when the filter starts getting clogged late in the service life. Interesting read.

My guess is that it is a combination of the three things mentioned so far.

Definitely will reduce possibility of sumping.

Definitely gives them a new profit center of another filter element.

Paper filters are fundamentally flawed, in that they clog up and reduce flow. This is never good, regardless, but an especially sensitive issue on engines that have a weakness for sumping.

Another, oh so slight, advantage is that with more flow there is less drag on the oil pump, resulting in a bit better power.

I've been using Performance Reusable Filters for, coming up on 2 decades. They flow 7 times more oil than a paper filter AND filter contaminates out better. So it is a non-issue for me.

I am about 1,500 miles away from my next service. Probably won't need the new filter until middle or end of May. Works out good for me. I'll try it before deciding on relocation filter kit from Kevin.
