He did show me why he thought this happens in the water-cooled bikes and I took this photo.

the shorter one is from a water cooled and the taller one is from an air cooled.
Makes no sense to me why there is a difference between them.
The parts shown are the pressure elements of the pump, the larger one is for an oil cooled engine.
The reason a larger element is used on the oil cooled engine is because it must pump a larger volume of oil.
In addition to supplying oil to all the engine components, it must supply oil to the cylinder heads to cool the area near the exhaust valves.
Look at an oil cooled big twin M8, you will see the manifold that runs between the front and rear cylinder heads.
