Is It Me, Tranny or Something Else?

An interesting problem has shown up on my 2014 Tri-Glide. All of a sudden I am struggling to get consistent shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. Sometimes it hits Neutral. Really annoying. I have a little over 20k miles on my Trike and can't say I have ever had this problem. I find it hard to believe it is something I am doing but I won't rule it out.

BTW I did change all of my fluids, including the tranny at about 19.8k miles. I have used Redline Shockproof since I did the very first fluid change. Kinda surprised and confused because I have never had this occur on any other Harley I have owned. Any ideas?

Could be a slight adjustment to the cluch cable, I know if i get lazy and when going from 1st to 2nd and don't pull the cluch leaver all the way in it will go into neutral.... And if that happens too often i adjust the cluch a little...Hope that helps...

I burnt out a clutch after putting a S&S motor in a trike A J P tech told me not to use synthetic in the primary because it is too slippy for the clutch Very confusing because everyone sells it:mad:

rhino 2 & Gorilla,
The 2014s have a hydraulic clutch. Can you adjust?

Jerry

That only means that you do not have to adjust the cable because the hydraulic line replaces the cable. The clutch itself is still adjustable. I don't have a service manual for a 14 but I'm sure its not that much different then a 13 with a cable.

When was the last time you changed the hydraulic fluid in the clutch master cylinder?
Color of fluid?
A good flush of the system?
Check the owners manual for the correct D.O.T. brake fluid for the system.

first off make sure your linkage is adjusted correctly and tighten up good and lubed up good. i noticed when a first bought a six speed bike that i was hitting neutral all the time. after riding a five speed for years and never having this problem i found it was me and not the bike. part of the problem is the six speed can access neutral from 1st or 2nd. i learned to hold up alittle on the shifter when going for second. problem solved. now i have a trike with a hand shifter on it and if i just reach over and slap 1st to 2nd i will miss it sometimes. i think the reason why is when i just slap it , it jumps back and goes back into neutral. only happens to the 1-2 shift. if i shift it without slapping it, it shift fines. just something i've learned after learning to shift with my handshifter.
