Hello all, I am sorry if this has been posted or asked before, I’m due for my 1K service on my Tri Glide Ultra. For the tranny fluid I usually used either Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-140 or Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube 75W-140 on previous bikes. I see that Amsoil has a synthetic tranny fluid for the HD 6 speed. Has anyone tried it and if so your thoughts on it? Thanks and be safe.

I’ve been using full synthetic gear oil, either Valvoline, Mobil 1, Walmart etc. I just bought the new HD gear/primary fluid because I used it in my 14 TG. Will use it in my 21 Primary. Before I leave on my trip next month but not in the transmission a bit later. It’s suppose to be good for 20000 miles. At what it costs for these fluids now I’m trying not to waste it.

You Need TRANSMISSION Fluid !

You Need TRANSMISSION Fluid !

What Road Dog said because engines and tranny's have different requirements for their lubricants. Feel free to use synthetic oils in your transmission if you prefer but tranny's don't get close to being hot enough to benefit from synthetics.

Okay, that makes sense. The shop that did my motor suggested I use BelRay transmission fluid so that is what I have been running. To be honest I would have to go out to my shed and read one of the bottles because I don't know if it is a synthetic or not.

What Road Dog Said was you DON'T want to use Tranny fluid, you need Transmission Fluid!

A Harley tranny makes noise when you shift because of the way the gears are machined which also makes them a lot stronger and durable! It doesn't mean anything is wrong.

I use HD Formula+. When I used Amsoil and Red Line Heavy ShockProof shifting was the same. The only difference I noticed was a lighter wallet.

I have tried different gear lubes over the past 36 years of owning Harleys, could not tell one bit of difference between any of them.

Any gear lube of the proper grade (viscosity) will give the gearset all the protection it needs.

I use the Harley heavy gear lube in the transmission and Formula+ in the primary, because it is easy to find.
