Finally took the time to get the 2019 Tri Glide on the dyno yesterday.

Did a bit of work on the tune. One of the biggest things we did was adjust the Torque Limits that HD started using in 2019. Made a very nice improvement.

101 HP
124 Torque

Very flat, and really happy with it.

Video should be on Youtube in the next month.

Those are GREAT numbers Kevin considering your 114 hasn't been completely rebuilt. Mine with the 130 T-Man kit is only 110HP and 135 torque.

It was an eye opener for me.

When I first got the TG I did the DK Stage I, and that provided a nice improvement in power, and a reduction in heat.

I then added the Max-Cell 818H cam. Hear it in the video below.

When the cam was installed, Jamie installed a canned tune for it, and then did some tuning by riding it (he does not have a Trike dyno).

I rode it for over a year and have been quite pleased with the increase in power.

However, a few months ago I realized that my MPG were in the toilet...and this is usually a symptom of a bad tune. So decided to take it for a full dyno tune, since I could not find anybody with a good base map for a Tri Glide for this particular cam.

WOW! The improvement in power was shocking. I have not put enough miles on it in the last 3 days to see how my MPG are, but I am betting I got a good increase in MPG.

I agree it is all about the right tune and everyone doesn't have a base to start from for a Triglide. When I had my blown 114 rebuilt at Four Rivers Harley (Paducah) they had rebuilt a handful of trikes and tuned them. The only difference when they started mine was the lower end was sent up to Darkhorse for balancing, then when it came back they rebuilt using the T-Man 130 kit.

My tune was perfect the first time out of the dyno booth. Since I meet up and ride with two friends who had the same rebuilds at Four Rivers we are always comparing MPG numbers. When we gas up at the same time, I always use anywhere from .3 to .5 less fuel. Most of my miles (2-up and not too aggressive) gets me between 30mpg and 33mpg with my 130.

As far as dyno numbers go, I think you have to consider them as only a guide and not an exact measure of how strong the motor actually is. Four Rivers was using a 20+ year old dyno when my two friends had their bikes done. When mine was rebuilt, they had just replaced the old dyno with a new one. My dyno numbers were not as high as either one of my friends. The service manager at Four Rivers explained that older dynos will put out generous numbers compared to brand new ones.

One of my trike friends who had much better dyno numbers than mine insisted on doing a little racing after I got my bike back. On three different runs I easily beat him.

Also There are factors that change day to day and even hour to hour that effect what the dyno numbers are. Temperature ambient, Humidity, operator differences all effect what the numbers at THAT given run. Put the same trike on the DYNO a different day without changing anything and the numbers will be slightly different. Your DYNO run is a ball park figure.

The goal for us trikers is to get the most TORQUE out of the motor at the lowest RPM and get the curve to stay flat as long as possible. We want bottom end power unless you are into drag racing your trike.

Absolutely. Once you get the HP up over 100 and the torque over 130 (with proper tune) it is a total different ride. At 70mph if you need to get out and quickly pass the hp/torque is amazing compared to stock.

Mary and I went for a ride yesterday, ripping around some county roads for about 100 miles.

WOW! The power increase is substantial. I was impressed with the cam with a bad tune. Now with a good tune, it is better than I would have thought possible.

MPG yesterday was not a good test, I was deep in the throttle, A Lot! Still got 32.5 mpg, hand calculated. I suspect when I'm riding normally, not constantly playing with the power, I will be up near 40 mpg. We will see.

Video on Dyno runs, tuning, and Torque Based ETC, along with charts, should be on YT later this month. Will post here when done.

Last few tanks of gas, hand calculated have been:

37.2
38.9
40.3
36.5

Here is a video of our experience on the dyno-

This was the chart of the TG before going on the dyno-

Could not be happier with the sound, the power, & the MPG.

At what miles per hour are traveling at to get that gas mileage? Reason I am asking: With tuner, all the cooling gear, power duals and eliminator mufflers, I have never gotten above 34mpg. Of course I live in Texas and we travel a little faster than the rest of the states. Just wondering.

Most of it was a mix of country roads at 40-60 mph and interstate at 72 mph.
The one that broke 40 mpg was almost all country road riding.
The lower mpg was me playing more with the throttle. :)

My Saddle Sore Iron Butt ride has been delayed several times. Hopefully will be doing that at the end of this month or the beginning of next month.

That will be mostly 75-80 mph riding, so it will be interesting to see what the MPG is on that 1000 mile ride.

Kevin

P.S. Have you tried the TTI's in your exhaust? It helps power & MPG in the low and mid range RPM.
