DK Customs NexGen 13” shocks with Convertible Comfort Lift; my review
I decided to start a new thread to post my review of my new DK Customs NexGen 13” shocks with comfort lift.
I was undecided on whether or not to spend the money on upgrading my shocks as it’s just a lot of money.
However when I asked my Wife’s opinion on the purchase she said; “if you don’t do something to make the ride better I’m done riding”. That statement was all I needed to put the order in.
I order them last Monday, they delivered on Thursday and I got them installed today.
In disclosure; I already had the comfort lift installed as I’d purchased that some time ago.
It only took me 25 miles to see without a doubt that I made the right decision in going with the DK Customs NexGen 13” shocks with comfort lift.
These shocks are setup to include my Wife and some gear however even without that extra weight these shocks are so much an improvement over the stock.
I’m really looking forward to going for a 2-up ride to get the full feel of the improvement.
Today’s solo ride included about 15 miles on what used to be a road I’d avoid as it was so rough.
Well there’s no doubt the road is still rough and I could still feel most of the bumps but the sharpness of those bumps are all but gone.
My only regret is it’s taken me 4 years to upgrade the shocks but in retrospect; 4 years ago DK Customs didn’t have the NexGen shocks available.
As mentioned I had these setup by DK Customs for about 400 lbs. of passenger and gear weight as most of the riding on the Freewheeler is 2-Up.
When solo I’m generally on my Heritage but I do foresee in the future going solo on the Freewheeler more often especially now that the ride’s improved.
With the instructions provided and DK Custom’s Youtube videos the installation was fairly straight forward.
I took my time but I think if I was fully focused it would take me likely a couple of hours for the complete install.
I decided to remove the body as I think getting to the upper shock bolts would create as much installation time as it does to remove and re-install the body.
Also, I’ve never taken the body off so I wanted to figure out how that’s done anyway which turned out to only take me about 20 minutes to get it off and 10 minutes to put it back on. Note; you might can take it off and on by yourself but for me I just had my Wife give me a hand.
I don’t have any installation pointers other than just read the instructions and watch the videos.
In conclusion;
If you have the funds; just pull the trigger.
If you don’t have the funds; start saving!!!!!
