Differential gear oil change

I plan to soon be removing the old differential gear oil from my RSV and replacing it with a 80/90 Synthetic as recommend by Hannigan and I know the old stuff has to be removed by siphoning hose from the top of the Ford Thunderbird rear end. I plan on using my hand held siphoning pump and this will be my first time in its removal, any do's or don't ? I'm sure it's a messy little job but it seems to be fairly straight forward. Or do you suggest having it done at a lubricating type shop!? Just looking for some pros and cons..

No drain plug?

From what I have been told and the way I understand it, due to the rotation of the RSV Yamaha drive line the T-bird differential is installed up side down for forward motion, so the drain plug is on top and the gear oil must be siphoned out... There always seems to be more than one way to skin a cat.

Just pump it out. Synthetic is a good choice.
