Other than getting rid of some of the heat and giving you more noise, is it worthwhile to install a catless head pipe? Trying to justify spending $500-600 for a new pipe. Don't want to destroy the cat converter, California might start testing bikes in the near future.

If thats all you are going to do...I wouldn't ....You might even lose some power, just changing the cat/head pipe...

It didn't help in the least with my heat ('15 TG). I went with a full stage I too. Used FullSac header and tail pipe inserts, and a Screamin' Eagle AC. Used the FullSac tuner to do the tune with.

I have a de-catted head pipe on my trike now & for me I can't detect much of a heat difference between it & the stock head pipe. I bought it off e-bay a few yrs. back for 125. I'm happy I didn't spend 400+ for an aftermarket head pipe. I have a couple friends that did & they couldn't tell the difference between their trikes or mine as far as felt heat. I'm not one to spend a lot of money on something that may be slightly better. I just ride it & enjoy it! ;)

My 2014 cost a lot less to do than you posted. YES I did my own labor. I retained the stock mufflers .... and they have gotten a nice sound to them now with 32k miles on them.

I used Nightrider FL-Vied-10s to do my fuel enrichment after the install.

I agree with this

Seems the cat provides some needed back pressure needed for exhaust scavenging

I noticed this right off when I gutted my stock mufflers;)

On the M8, it's not going to do squat. The moco moved the cat backwards to a new position so the rider doesn't get a lot of heat. Ditto the passenger. If you go catless get ready to buy the tuner. Bike will run to lean otherwise. Wish I'd never touched mine. I am back to full stock and imho, it runs better and gets better fuel mileage.

I am considering putting the stock header back on the tri glide. I am not sure if the heat was less or not because I did other upgrades at the same time as the header was replaced with cattless header.
