I have gotten so used to using Apple carplay in my family vehicles it would be great to have it on my trike. Can this be accomplished easily or do you have to remove the fairing and add something?

The BoomBox GTS was introduced in the 2019 model year so yes I think your Tri-Glide has CarPlay. In order to activate it you must go to setting and turn 'projection' on. And a microphone must be present - either corded or with a WHIM. You can get a jumper plug that will eliminate the need for the microphone. It plugs into one of the connectors on the radio and the outer fairing must be removed to access the connector.

Please allow me to add just a little to this. Ultrafxr is absolutely correct.

Here is my added suggestion. Turn the bike on and let the nav come up. Next, plug your Harley headset into the either the front or read plug. Then, connect your phone to the USB port.
If the projection is on, carplay should come up.

Next, since you have a TriGlide, it is unlikely that your phone will fit in your cubby. So, please buy a wireless connector (I use the Ottocast). Just make sure you get one for carplay.

Now, all you have to do is plus that into your cubby USB port. Next, pair your phone. Once all done, you can not put your phone in the trunk or in your pocket.

Now, when you go out to your bike and turn the power on, it will automatically connect to your phone and carplay - takes about 20 - 15 seconds.

Good luck

Thanks for replies. The first problem I see here is that I don't have a Harley headset. Never had any use for one. To be honest I recall giving away the first one I received with my 2016, not sure if I even got one with my 2019. I assume from what y'all have said here that to go wireless carplay one would be required?

No, you do have some other options that will allow you to go wireless.

You can order an apply carplay adapter with headset connector - Part no: 7PCPEB from Logscom Audio - think it cast about $16. This is plugged into the passenger's headset port, and it makes the bike think that a headset is connected.

So, get that, plug it in and get your carplay working. Once you have that, as mentioned, you will then need to get the wireless adapter.

I just did this for a guy during our ride on Thursday - so, you should be good to go. Let us know if we can help .

Hooked up the Logscom into the passenger port, plugged the phone in and dang if Carplay didn't come right up! Contemplating on getting the wireless, might wait to see how much I use the Carplay on upcoming trips. They aren't cheap.

Hey, glad to hear it worked out and all is running well.

Running wireless is not that costly. My AA wireless is about $45 - look for any coupons when buying them . Ottocast had a $30 coupon on Amazon.

Good luck

Hey guys just bought a 2020 Tri Glide and I bought the jumper to get Carplay but it doesn't work so ordered another one and waiting for it to come in. I had a 2020 Street Glide and had that one flashed and worked fine. Now have this bike and can't get nothing to work. Hoping it's a bad jumper so I don't have to use a headset. If anyone has any ideas please post. TIA

UPDATE: After not working I decided to check the DIAG Screen and found code b1361h(Front right headset shorted low) which has something to do with the bars and also had PN 76000783a which is the GTS radio PN. So I guess I will be taking it back to HD and good think I got a 2 years warranty.

*A "Harley Davidson Front Right Headset Shorted Low" error message indicates that the electrical circuit within the front right handlebar control module (also known as a "headset") is experiencing a short circuit, meaning a wire is touching another wire unintentionally, causing an abnormally low electrical resistance in that specific circuit. *

By the way, if you have a TriGlide- you should not need a jumper to get carplay to work (unless you are not using a wired headset or have the WHIM)

Update: They found a broken wire underside seat and is now working.

Glad to hear all is working now.

Still a little confused about the jumper they said was installed. As mentioned, since you have a 2020 TriGlide, that bike is already set up to accept carplay if you use the wired headsets.

If you decided to not use the wired headsets, you would then have ot install a jumper or plus a false pin in the headset plus (usually the passengers plug works best)

Look at the first part of this thread - guys here has a 2019 and he wanted to run carplay. We told him to just plus in. Since he didn't have a wired headset, we told him to get that passenger plus. He said it came right up for him

Ok. So are you telling me that if I want to use the headsets now that I will have to take the jumper out? Really don’t want to use headsets all the time.

No sir - if all is working now, you should be OK. This is just as long as they did not flash the system to fool it into thinking it has the WHIM.

Just plug your headset in and see if all is working.

What I was saying is - you did not need that jumper at all.

Ok thanks. I had my 2020 Street Glide flashed for WHIM to get it to work on it. This time I just got the jumper to put on the trike and wasn’t sure with it having the mic setup if it would make a difference. I just didn’t want to have to use the microphones all the time to use CarPlay.

Well that was not my experience. I had the jumper that mounts inside the fairing and connects to one of the plugs to the audio system. Worked fine and CarPlay loaded. But as soon as headset plugged in CarPlay disconnected. Now perhaps one of the jumpers that plugs on to the passenger headset port would work differently. Don’t know.

Last night I tried mine with jumper in and used the driver headset and CarPlay stayed up and was able to start a text message. So far so good but don’t want to do any harm to the system.

You can not use both at the same time. Take out the jumper from the fairing and get the jumper for the passenger headset when you don’t want to use the rider headset.

Where do I find this jumper?
Silver Fox is correct and in line with what I have been saying. There may be some confusion when we use the work jumper -so, I will try to clarrify.

OK - this is for the TriGlide - GTS radio or any Harley that has the headset ports already connected from the factory.

Plug your phone into the USB port and you should automatically get Android Auto. To get carplay, you must have a headset connected.

If you use the Harley wired headsets, that is all you need - just plug in and carplay works.

If you don't have or want to use the wired headsets, you have three options. - Install the WHIM. Just remember, once you install the WHIM, you will no longer be able to use the wired headsets.

Second option is to install a logsdon audio jumper (logsdonaudiollc.com) part number 7PCPEB) - this works best when plugged into the passenger headset plus. It sorts of fools the radio into believing that a wired headset is plugged in.

The third option is to remove the outer fairing and install the carplay jumper (look at Amazon for carplay jumper). This will indeed work in the TruGlide - however, we would ask why you would go through the added work of taking the outer fairing off - when this is not needed.

As an example, the Street Glide and Road Glide does not have headset connections. So, for both of these bikes, you can plug your phone into the USB and use android auto. However, if you want to use carplay, you must add the carplay jumper.

Yes, you could use the WHIM - however, I understand Harley is going away from this.

I am going to install the new J&M dongle that should take the place of the WHIM. he advantages I see of this is - when you install it, you can use your wireless headsets in stereo plus, you will not be disconnecting your wired headsets.

Once I have this up and running, I will share my experiences.

Hope this helps

For clarification, let's call the plug under the fairing the carplay jumper and the one that goes into the passenger headset plug, the logsdon jumper. This way I think it helps clear up some of the confusion.

So, jamju - which jumpers are you referring to in your comments?

Good info and really clears up things. Thanks for posting. My carplay jumper inside the fairing connected to the audio system plug came from a friend who no longer used it. I was not aware of the logsdon jumper for the headset port. Much better, simplier and easier for sure. But am I still correct that with the logsdon jumper installed the driver wired headset will not work? It sure would be nice if it did.

The CarPlay jumper that I have on bike is under the fairing. I need info on the one for passenger plug in. Otherwise the way I have it setup now. That when I plug the in the riders headset it works fine. I have not plugged in both yet to see if it still will work with the CarPlay jumper still plugged in.

Your TriGlide does not need the carplay jumper - if you use your wired headset.

If you don't want to use the wired headset, you can plug the logsdon jumper into the passengers headset outlet. For some reason, the logsdon jumper does not like to work well in the rider's headset port.

So, in your case, since you already have the carplay jumper installed you can still use the wired headset. If you decided to not use a wired headset - because you have the jumper, it should still work.

If you didn't have the carplay jumper installed, you would then need the logsdon jumper.

Thanks - what do you mean when you say that you have not plugged in both.

If you have the carplay jumper installed and you plug in your rider headset - then you have both plugged in. Carplay should be working

Both is rider and passenger headsets plugged in at the same time why I still have a CarPlay jumper plugged in. If I have issues with that then I’ll take the CarPlay jumper out and look to get the passenger plug that you are talking about. But if it only can be plugged into the passenger plug. I don’t think I would want something hanging out the side of the plug for something to happen to it.

I am not sure you are getting my drift.

If you are always using a wired headset, all is OK. You can have both the passenger and rider headsets plugged in and all will work.

You can keep that carplay jumper in place (didn't need to put it there - but, you can keep it there).

The issue comes into play when - let's say you jump on your bike and don't plug in the wired headset. If the wired headset is not plugged in, then, carplay will not work.

As an example, suppose you, like me also have a second set of helmets with Cardo wireless. If you use these, then your carplay will not work.

However, if you plug the lodson jumper into the headset receptacle, then it makes carplay think you have a wired headset connected - and then, carplay will work.

Still, since you have the carplay jumper already installed, it does the same thing.

I have posted that I do not want to use the wired headset all the time. I want to have CarPlay on the bike if I use the headset or not. So I need to find out now that CarPlay jumper is in if I can still use both headset at same time without damaging the system.
