Battery Tray Falls Off

I heard something clanging and then fell as we were driving down the highway at 70 mph. I got off the road and looked underneath and found the battery hanging from it's cables. The battery tray had broken loose and fallen off.
 
Battery Tray:

When I changed my battery after over six years a part of the tray had broken. I put a scab patch on it. This may be something everybody should check.
