Apple carplay and no audio with phone calls with iphone 11

I purchased a 2019 Trike a few weeks ago and just found out that when using Apple carplay there is no audio when using the phone function. You can make a call but the person you're calling cannot hear you and you cannot hear them. This appears to be a problem only with the iphone 11. All the other functions for carplay work fine other than the phone. At least, that is the case with my phone (iphone 11 pro max). If you have an iphone11, have you noticed this problem? It doesn't appear that Harley nor Apple are doing much about it other than pointing fingers at each other. Since older iPhones don't have this problem with carplay it seems to me this would be an Apple problem and not a Harley problem. IOS 13.4 update did not fix this problem. Thanks for your input.

There is a lot of discussion about this over on the CVO Harley forum. Folks there report exactly what you've experienced. It effects only the iPhone 11. The consensus there is it seems to be a Harley problem rather than an Apple problem since folks report no problem with CarPlay and phone calls on their iPhone 11 in other vehicles.

Well if it is a Harley issue, then we are in for a long duration of problems because Harley will do everything in its power not to fix it and blame Apple. I will check out the CVO page. Thanks for pointing me in that direction for information.

I cannot find a CVO forum on this website. Where is it?

That's it Jack. Thanks.

And for the OP with the iPhone 11 problem: Have you tried making a phone call but NOT through the CarPlay app? Since the Rushmores came out with the BoomBox in MY2014 you can Bluetooth the phone to the BoomBox and make and receive calls. Might try that and see if it works. Yesterday while CarPlay was active I tried it and it worked just fine - but I have an iPhone XR so it works either Bluetooth or through the CarPlay app with no problem.

I have not tried that yet. My unit just automatically goes/syncs to carplay when I turn the bike on and the USB is connected. How do you make a call without going through carplay? Maybe that is a dumb question. Do you just not hook the phone up to the USB port and then make a call using the Bluetooth with the GTS system?

I was able to make calls using this method. When the phone is not plugged into the USB port it works fine. Doing it this way, you can hold down the voice command switch and tell Siri to make calls and presto it works.

I was able to make a phone call using the Voice Recognition button that does double duty with the left turn signal. My iPhone was plugged in to the USB connection and CarPlay was active (I was listening to SiriusXM) when I made the phone call. Not sure why you had to unplug the iPhone from the USB connection. As I see it when you press the bike's Voice Recognition button you bypass CarPlay and make a Bluetooth connection. But then again these problems seem to be limited to the iPhone 11 so perhaps CarPlay won't let it Bluetooth when it is active????

That is the problem. The iphone 11 does not work. The audio for the phone is null and void when the phone is connected to the USB port because it uses Carplay when the USB is connected to the phone. When it is not plugged in, it uses Bluetooth directly with the BoomBox and does not go through the carplay. With that setup the phone works fine.
