Anyone else?

like that quote!

yup....don't mind takin a chance when the odds are in my favor! good idea with that oil test tank......don't want a blue cam or crank, and don't like the squeal of an engine locking up.

Not much done.

Struggling with my health and another round of testing. No results yet. Doc has exhausted the heart testing, even a stress test.

Some small amount of work done with the gas tank.

Closing the ends. One end tacked it.

Test fit tacked onto the bottom.

And how it sits on the frame.

15056907615623.jpg

And I think it is the kinda narrow chopper look I wanted to the front.

Now to make up the rear of the tank and tack it out.

Then the shell comes back off for welding end panels in.

top cyl ducts?

will there be any over the cylinder ducting?.....seen you had some made for underneath. lotsa trike in a small package. looking good!

No probably not.

It has run a long time with no tins on it.

I will just have to see how this larger motor handles it.

Welded a bit today.

Some more on the gas tank.

15067992333976.jpg

Welded up and finished the oil primer tank.

15067970159682.jpg

And the re-install wire harness after the trouble shooting was not fully installed. So finished up a few loose details there.

Death by SS do you Safety Wire some of the fasteners & bits & pieces when you button it all up & back together ?

Not so much safety wire.

I use a lot of nylocks, aircraft locknuts, whatever you like to call them.

Lock tight on a few things also.

So....

Some small amounts done.

The two halves of the tank are welded out.

The sealer is ordered. I am going to put the sealer on everything other than the last seam. Then weld the two halves together and roll put sealer in and roll that last seam.

I got the engine oil. Now to do the prime up.

I am going to have to recruit some welding help with the headers.

Working down a list of small details.

Gas tank sealer came in Saturday from wal mart.

But like usual I worked all weekend.

Maybe later.

I primed up the oil system today.

It all seemed to work as it should.

I have lots of oil pressure. Probably too much.

But then I do plan on thin synthetic oil after break in.

On another note.....

That oil pressure can is hard to control.

I sprayed about a quart if oil all over the place including in my face right off the bat.

Learned real quick that a little air goes a long way and to sneak up on it.

Got a few more of the small details done.

Dial indicated tdc and set the timing pointer and the sync of the ford crank trigger ring.

Adjusted the valves and sealed up the valve covers.

Installed the iridium spark plugs and the ford spark plug wires.

Check a bolt here and there....

The main thing missing is welding out the headers.

Made a vacuum accumulator can today.

I am going to hook up the map sensor and find out if I have enough vacuum and/or variance thereof to program with.

curious

getting close to firing up! any fuel and ignition maps available for your setup? or megasquirt tuner studio plans? you have bungs for wideband sensors....going to use?

No two maps are the same on custom engines.

Everything about the engine would have to be exactly the same like a production car.

So you do the calculations and put the numbers in.

Hopefully it will start.

Then tune from there.

As it stands it will be dual narrow bands.

Maybe one day it will be wideband.

But that will probably be if/When I do a cpu upgrade.

I had the coils backwards and the ground for the tps disappeared.

Flipped the coil wired and jumped the ground on rod. Then it lit right up.

Battery is dead and the alt belt is squealing.

All the mix and match electronics are trying to work.

It seems lean.

Gonna scale up the gas and try it again.

Just not enough time to stay on it.

It has now been run through several warm up cycles.

Things are loosening up and settling in.

Over the first start hots.

Scaled up the fuel tables and have it rich now.

The ford idle air valve is online now and working.

It idles on its own now.

The base timing is checked and was on 10 advanced with no advance command (no spark advance word from computer). That is the way ford intended it.

I reved it one time high enough to hit the cam.

It sounds beefy/chunky like a big block Chevy at idle and down low.

But when the cam comes in it suddenly changes and becomes a big motorcycle sounding engine.

Gonna be wild.

Nope.

No wheelie bars.

Sorta amazing all the mix and match parts are all working together.

Now to finish that tank.
