Air Temperature Shown on Boom

I have had my new 2017 Tri Glide for about 6 weeks and love it. Have put on 2,400 miles and after riding two wheelers all my life (just turning 70 next month) I hope to ride my trike for a few more years. And my wife may start riding again with me????

I have a weird question related to the air temperature that shows up on the information screen of the boom. The dealer just basically laughed at me and would not help with or attempt to give me an answer. Right when I start the trike and compare the air temp shown on the boom to the actual temp it is right on. But after riding for at short time, maybe 5 minutes, the boom air temp is 6-10 degrees more that the actual outside air temp. I had the boom on my 2015 Road Glide and it was always within a degree or 2 of the actual temp even while riding.

I know this is a pretty minor issue but the way my dealer's service manager handled things pisses me off. Does anyone know if this is normal or not?

Thanks.

I too laugh when I see the temp reading on my 2016 Tri-Glide. It's so far off all the time it's hilarious.

I don't think the temp gauges are supposed to work. It's a practical joke masterminded by Harley Davidson.

Whats the purpose of an air temperature gauge..If an oil gauge or a volt gauge reads high or low...Then You know theres a problem with the trike and you take in to your dealer be fixed.. If the air temperature reads high or low ' Do you bring the trike in to the dealer to fix the outside temperatures..

I consider the air temp gauge on the trike the same way I do the one in the cars. Just another distraction. When I leave the house in the morning (or evening) one of the first things is note-- is it hot/cold? Will I need more/less clothes.

Choker,

It seems like I remember that sensor or probe either being located under the fairing or on the lower left of the inner fairing where it could be detecting ambient off the engine or road. It is about the most useless gauge on the bike. And why did they take away the oil pressure reading?

2017 tri's

From what I am reading, the temp gauge displays on the radio? I replaced mine , 2012, with a oil temp . Pretty bad when you don't know if your warm or cold :AGGHH:If it desplays on radio , I guess your stuck with it.?

I have been told the air temperature gauge is displaying the temp of the air being mixed with fuel at the fuel injector. Regardless, it is useless information. I changed mine air temp for a oil temp guage that I monitor regularly.

Boom Box Blues?

Last October, my Rolling Thunder Chapter was on a ride from Indy to San Antonio. On our way back, we were talking on the radio when one of the trikes ahead said the temperature was X. I said it was Y, and the guy behind me who was our sweep said it was Z. All three different temps. Same trikes, same Boom Box, but two were 2014s and mine was a 15.

I get very frustrated with the Boom Box. The navigation program sucks and there are Gremlins running around in that thing messing things up!
