Not sure when do the leaves turn color? I'm sure it is after ours have peaked color. Maybe before they turn color and fog gets bad. fred

Fog on the Blue Ridge can happen anytime. I have been detoured off from it a couple of times in July. Fog combined with bicyclists makes for an interesting ride.

So I guess it is just a matter of which day one happens to be riding it.

Peak leaf season on the Blue Ridge is usually around the last week of Sept and first two weeks of Oct. The traffic at that time is also at it worst and the hotels in the area jack up their prices. Also, be aware that they have closed all the gas stations on the Blue Ridge Parkway so you will have to exit to get gas if you plan to go end to end. As was previously stated fog can be a problem at any time of the year, especially at elevation. It is a great ride, I have been end to end several times.

I thank you also! We don't have a trip planned now...but we're hoping we can get away in Sept. or Oct., and we've been toying with the idea of another Fall Colors trip.

Yesterday was so busy it was a blur. Rode in at 7am, and rode home after the sun was set at 8pm.

Today dawned warm. Switched from leather over to my mesh jacket.

Sometimes it is temping to not wear a jacket, but 6-7 years ago, in August, I hit the asphalt at 60 mph and my mesh jacket saved my skin, literally.

Later in the year, when it gets into the 90's and 100's, I'll get the mesh jacket wet before riding, and it does a really good job of keeping me cool.

When it's hot, what do you wear, and why?

I wear the Harley Mesh jacket for the protection and when it is HOT outside, I stay cooler in it than I do without it. Air going through it with perspiration equals cooler!!! Not to mention the sunscreen factor involved with the jacket! The wife thought I was crazy until she tried it and now her fair skin is protected and cooler!

Yeah, it's a little counter-intuitive...but I'm def cooler with it than without...as long as I'm not sitting in traffic for any period of time.

Tonight is the first Wednesday in 3 weeks that it is not raining. We'll be on Beale Street in a couple of hours, enjoying dinner, people & bike watching.

Last night Mary and I rode the 50 or so miles to Beale Street, down by the Mississippi River in Memphis.

Weather was perfect on the way there and the ride home...with a Full Moon!

At our table right on the street. At 6:30 there was already over a thousand bikes lining Beale Street...

Grub arrived, and we're set to eat and watch the bikes and people go by.

Starting to get a little busier...

We enjoy eating at the Rum Boogie....good food, and we have a front row seat...

...to all the bikes and folks out enjoying themselves.

No pics, but the ride home after dark, with a full moon and about 70* temps, was perfect.

My Wife and I were able to get out for a ride today. We went to one of Wi. State parks, our son and daughter in law were camped there. We just hung out with them for a while and then rode back home. A little overcast but it's all good.

Many summers ago Mary and I stayed at a motel in Spearfish for a week, using it as our home base to explore around.

We talked (fantasized) about moving out there....UNTIL we remembered how cold it got out there, and for how many months each year.

But during the good months, the riding, roads, views are amazing! Looking forward to more pics of your day rides!

Wow! We get to Bearthooth Pass as often as we can...which is not nearly enough. And we still have never spent enough time in Yellowstone.

Absolutely beautiful country you live in/near.

Snowmobiles...I know I would hurt myself. lol I quit riding in the dirt about 10 years ago. Just too tempted to push it, which always ends up hitting the edge of the envelope, sooner or later. I don't like pain, and pain in the cold is even worse. :laugh:

Mary & cold? Nope. She wanted to go deer hunting about 20 years ago. I took her out and she could not sit still....said it was too cold to just sit. :laugh:

Pulled 4 filter elements, cleaned them, and oiled them.

The Softail had been a couple of years, maybe 15k miles since the last cleaning.

The Sporty had been about a year and around 10K miles.

The TG had been about 1.5 years and 25k miles.

Felt good to get those done...was nice in the A/C bike room with it 85* outside.
