A Day in the Life...

Beautiful day to ride in North Mississippi. Mary and I went for a 3 hour putt, staying mostly on country roads.

Pic of Mary in the mirror, plus some kudzu!

We also took a little detour up into Tennessee to meet with Smokey at the SCRC Rally. Poor planning on my part that even though we hung our for over an hour we missed him.

There were a lot of bikes and trikes there, even though the majority were out on rides.

I bet this place is hopping in the evenings...nothing going on outside this afternoon.

Always great pics Kevin

I like the looks of kudzu but it kills my trees;)

Going to take my wife to Memphis to check out Beal Street

You sure look like you have a good time there

Kevin and Mary...

I want that country lane picture blown up into a wall-sized mural! Love it!

Thanks for sharing!

That road is about 7 miles from our home. One of 6 or 7 roads leading from our home to the outside world. :)

If you PM me your email addy I will email you a full resolution (2.5 mb) file of that pic.

We are very fortunate to have hundreds of miles of county roads within 50 miles of our home, almost all with very little traffic.

Always great pics Kevin

Yeah, the kudzu is nasty stuff...will ruin any land it is let to run wild on.

Just a couple more weeks of bike nights on Beale St. left this year...then it will be 2018 before they start up again.

Great pics. enjoy! I live to far north to get in on the action Darn... :( Ride safe Fred

Maybe sometime next year you'll go for an extended jaunt and show up somewhere in the south? :)

Yesterday Mary and I had an appointment up in Memphis...afterwards we headed down to Beale Street.

We got there earlier last night than any other night this year.

Early_zpsv7cqye8p.jpg

We weren't there very long before Jerry, and his friend Peter showed up. I have gotten a bit lazy in my photo taking...did not get a pic of them or their bikes...but we spent a bit of time with them while they were not looking around at the thousand plus bikes that showed up.

Pic of the west side of Beale, before it got crowded. The Tri-Glide on the right, just past my Heritage, that's Jerrys' new TG.

After the sun went down it started getting pretty busy.

Not a good pic, but the only one I have. The last few weeks we've seen a couple of bicycles that have little 2 stroke engines in them. Very cool...I want one!

Here's a pic of one that I just found on google...seems like it would be fun to motor around the neighborhood on. :)

I could have/should have taken more photos! Beale St. was really busy last night. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed the sights.

Took this pic of the moon from our table, right before leaving a bit before 9pm.

Fun ride home! Only 2 more bike nights until Spring of 2018.

Too nice to stay home today, so went to my favorite local playground - Teddy R. NP

The babies were looking good:

One thing nice about a long lens - it makes you look a lot closer than you are:

ND is pretty bleak, but it has a strange beauty to it:

Even with a trike in the pic:

A river view:

...and downstream:

Was just leaving when I caught some wild horses crossing over - shows how shallow the river really is:

One more nice day and then it's cold and wet and windy for a while...

FANTASTIC pics Ron!

Glad you got to enjoy such a beautiful day out in such a pristine setting.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Very cool!

Are those wild horses?

Ron,

Thanks for posting this history...it's been an entailed, tangled one to say the least.

I grew up with horses but made the natural transition to motorcycles many years ago. Still, horses peak my interest. Carla

Kevin, my friends and I really enjoyed the visit Friday, the tour of your facility and seeing Mary and all the fine DK folks. I am so fortunate to be local (well within 40 miles or so) and know that many of the fine folks on this website would love to have the opportunity to visit as I did. I'm sure many of you know but Kevin and Devin have a real class operation. I have so much admiration and respect for folks like them who have the knowledge and drive to get out there in the arena and get things done. I know I'll soon be enjoying quite a few of DK's products on my new Tri-Glide.

Hey Jerry,

Thank you for the kind words.

We really enjoyed the time we were able to spend visiting, talking trikes, and swapping some stories.

Good to see you taking to the Tri-Glide so quickly after decades on 2 wheels!

Yesterday Paul & Ellie from the UK stopped by the shop.

We had a great time visiting for a few hours.

Paul rode the DK Sporty...

Paul%20DK%20Sporty_zpsjftqnopu.jpg

...he was happy to get on the bike, it has been a couple of weeks since he has ridden. :)

Dawn and Dwayne were there also to meet them. We showed them around the shop some, and had a very pleasant time visiting. Paul is known on a couple of forums as "BensonUK".

We learned all about Sportster Sickness UK and the the Sportster Sicko's!

Photo of Paul & Ellie with the Sportster Sickness T-shirt they brought for us. It is now hanging on the shop wall. Thank you!

I'm going to be talking more with Paul about how DK Custom can be involved with Sportster Sickness UK.

Last night Mary and I headed up to Beale Street. Perfect weather. 82* and clear skies on the way up. When we left it was 78*. By the time we got home, out in the country, it had dropped down to 65*.

We got there early, expecting a big crowd...

Beale%20Early.jpg

...next week is the last bike night on Beale for the year. It did fill up some, but not nearly jammed packed...

After%20Dark.jpg

...like we thought it would be.

That's a full moon right over the signal light!

Moon.jpg

We met a couple of riders out of Nashville. Ed & Zane. They're both retired and go on several long trips a year. Ed (on the left) has a Tri-Glide and Zane has an Electra-Glide.

Ed recognized us from having read several of our Ride Reports, like our Alaska Trip at this LINK.

We talked bikes, trikes, and trips we've taken, sights seen, etc. for quite a while. Good People!

EdKevinZane.jpg

While it did not fill up to jammed packed, there was a pretty good stream of bikes, off and on.

I had a Mississippi Moment on the ride in to work this morning.

Stalled at a stop sign was a pick-up truck with the hood up. I stopped to check and see if I could help.

Was just a loose battery connection that he had fixed. Nice kid, he has some bikes in his barn he wants to sell, gonna be stopping by this weekend to look at them. (he was also open carrying a nice 1911)

While we were talking we heard a THUMP and looked to the right. All we saw was a cloud of dust floating over the road, and then a big white "box" down in the ditch about 50 yards away. (see #1 in sketch below)

We then saw a truck do a u-turn and head back up the road. I pulled up behind the truck, passing the white "box" which turned out to be a tandem axle trailer.

Asked the driver if that was his trailer...yep, he had hit a bump and the tongue had popped off the ball and snapped the safety chains. It then had freewheeled across the oncoming traffic lane and down into the ditch.

He said "I don't know why it came off, but sure am glad there was no oncoming traffic."

Yeah, me too...could of been me!
