A Day in The Life - 2025

Just finished talking to Aaron about his bike.

He only has one photo so far...will have more in a week or so. Here is the one-

Aarons%20Engine.jpg

The engine has NOT been taken apart yet. The pieces in the photo above were what fell OUT of the hole in the engine case onto the floor when the bike was moved back and forth in gear in the shop.

2 pieces of the actual engine case, a wrist pin, and most of the rest is probably a disintegrated piston and connecting rod.

Never seen a Twin Cam grenade so dramatically.

Got a few more details from him:

"pegged at 120 mph indicated, there was a loud explosion and I immediately pulled in the clutch"

"there was no instability, so I don't think the rear tire locked up at all"

"seems like the inertia just plowed thru all the pieces and that is what saved me from the rear tire locking up and me probably going down"

"it was like a grenade went off"

"I wonder if the Thundermax was feeding too much fuel into the engine and that is what caused the explosion that disintegrated everything"

Once they get the new engine in, hopefully this week, then there will be more looking at the blown engine to try and figure out exactly what happened.

I will get more photos and info from him after that.

I blew up my 68 Chevelle w/Olds 425 when I broke a rod bolt and put the rod through the piston. Should have had used new bolts and magnafluxed the rods.

WOW!
Other than on little ride in the snow a week or so ago, it was January 1st since I rode.

It felt SO GOOD to get out for a ride today. 63 F

Was going to ride for about 30 minutes...ended up riding back country roads for 1.5 hours.

Hit some nice roads with some tight curves-

Rode thru Independence, MS twice!

What a great name for a little town!

Got the TG out of the bike room and under the carport...this will be its' home for a while.

TG%20in%20Car%20port.jpg

Got all the old cabinets and countertops into the bike room.

Bike%20room%201.jpg

Now begins the process of removing the rest of the shelves and installing the cabinets and counter tops throughout the building.

I expect it will take a few weeks of an hour or so here and there, as I have time.

I'm pretty stoked about having more workbench area, and a more organized work area!

Kevin

Was out this morning with a measuring tape, deciding which lower and upper cabinets would go where.

Over the next week I will begin play Tetris with them, getting all the lower cabinets and countertops in place.

While doing that I remembered I had not replaced my last set of florescent lights with and LED light fixture.

Tour Pak under florescent lights-

Fortunately they are not expensive, going to order the replacement right now.

70 degrees and sunny here today!
:icon_banana:

Went out for a ride and got back home and could not get up the driveway. The gate would not open.

Spent the last hour trouble shooting it, then getting it working again.

Turns out the Interstate battery that is 4 years 1 month old had given up the ghost.

Grabbed a different battery that is used for an outdoor pump and put it in place.

Will be getting another battery next week and returning the pump batt to its' home.

Headed to an appointment in Memphis soon.

Was going to Ride. But it is 59 degrees and raining!

I just looked at the weather forecast...What is Going On?
:icon_hyper:

Will have a few warmer days this week, then it is back to cold!

I was going to take a lunch ride today myself. It was 54° at 11AM in South Jersey, but by the time I got out of my dentist appointment at Noon it had dropped to 44° and now they're predicting freezing rain. I hate winter.

It's that dadgum groundhog! Somebody needs to eat that thang! 😝

Guess what I did!

My back surgeon released me Friday to start easing back into my normal routine with a few restrictions. Well, I came home and hit the ground running (not literally), but I got after it as quick as I could. I installed the rear fender welting then went to modifying my stock pipes by removing the baffles and installing TTIs. Outta respect for my spousal unit (Scout), I waited till she got home from work yesterday and we went for a short ride! Our first since November! I think you can tell by the smile on my face, I am one happy dude.

Made some progress in the bike room today.

1/3 of the lower cabinets are in place, getting ready to cut the countertop to go on these-

Cab%201.jpg

Countertop is cut to size & in place. Hole in countertop is where the sink was in the house. I have a trash can below that hole.

Cab%202.jpg

Finished securing countertop to lower cabinets, all is solid now.

Cab%203.jpg

Next step, for another day, is installing the upper cabinets all along the same wall.
:D

That's great news on being recovered from the surgery and being able to get back in the wind!

Perfect timing too...You're having some pretty nice weather out your way.

Back on January 28th, in this thread, I posted details about Aaron blowing up his engine, and a photo of a bunch of parts of the engine that fell out of a hole in the engine case onto the ground.

Well, yesterday they pulled the engine and the photo below is of the hole in the bottom of the engine case that all the parts fell out of.

At some point they are planning on pulling this engine apart. Those photos should be very interesting!

I was out futzing around in the cold today (43 F) and decided to change up my EBS from a filter, back to a catch-can.

This is the set up I have been running with my Transformer for years-

Old%20EBS.jpg

First try was below the 606.

EBS%20Thought.jpg

I almost left it like that, but I wanted to try something new/different.

New%20EBS.jpg

My M8 114 is not a spitter, so I went with the Standard Catch-Can. Last time I ran a Catch-Can it was the same size, and in 5,000 miles it filled up about 2/3rds full.

That was years ago, we'll see how the next 5,000 miles go.

Good to find a non-spitter.

It's still in the forties, but it started raining last night, and is still raining. Looks like it is going to continue thru tomorrow. No riding for me.

Here's one of many memories that keep me going on cold wet days.

Little Sturgis Bike Rally.

DK Sporty won second place at the bike show there!

Aaron called. He's the guy that had his Twin Cam blow up at 120+ mph.

He had another report for me. His New 120R Twin Cam engine should be finished being installed in his bike this week.

He's pretty stoked about having the extra power that the 120R should give him.

While they have not taken apart his 103 (that was upgraded to a 106 about 6 months before it blew) yet, the mechanic did let him know that it is his belief that the Thundermax ECM quit working, and that is what caused the problem.

They may be able to determine for sure what happened when they take it apart....but that is, at least, a few weeks out still.

I've posted details of the "event" earlier in this thread.

Here are a couple of photo's, the first is the hole in the bottom of the engine case. This broke at 120+ mph.

This photo is what fell out of that hole-

Since it is still too cold for me to ride (33 F) and we now have a forecast for more snow next week....

Question for everyone: How many of you have ridden on the street in the snow? Not just playing around, but either been on a trip, or commuting, thru the snow?

Was it on 2 wheels or 3?

Mary and I have a few times. Below are a couple of photos when we were traveling in August thru Wyoming and rode thru blizzard on a mountain pass in Wyoming.

This is snow in the air in this photo, not rain-

These two photos are after we descended out of the mountain pass-
