I am new to the site, and new to the 3 wheel world. I have a 2018 TG that I am trying to customize and make my own. I hate chrome and am trying to black out the bike. I find it difficult to find parts that are right or shops to do the work, mainly because of my lack of knowledge or terminology. Can anyone assist with any recommendations on any or all of the following:
  1. Custom shifters and linkage: Want black, but would love an option to add images or text to linkage
  2. Custom floor boards/foot pegs for rider and passenger: want all black
  3. Custom forks: have already powder coated, but would like something different
  4. Grips/Handlebars: Where do you test different height bars to get the right fit?
  5. Passenger foot pegs: Addition to the floor boards to bring her feet up. Would prefer they also fold in when not in use.
  6. Also looking for a paint job, but unless someone here is close, prob not much guidance you can provide.
Thanks to everyone in advance!

First: Welcome to Trike Talk @brigmania!!

Oh boy…. Where to start! lol!!

I’ll do my best to keep this as short as possible… (again, I’ll do my best, lol!)

You say you’re new to 3 wheels? Not sure if you’re also new to Harleys in general, but many parts for 2 wheels bikes will also fit our trikes, but obviously still some differences, especially the rear. (Even seats can be a interchangeable, but may interfere with the chrome grab bar if still equipped, and some seats will expose a lot of the wiring that goes back to the rear, for examples).

What is your definition of “customization” also determines if you just want simple bolt on accessories, or more “custom” parts.
The later will usually cost more.

I will just say that all my bikes over the years were ALWAYS “accessorized” and always upgraded. Some were just mild… but the last couple I kinda went more Customized.

For me, my Tri Glide was no different!
I purchased my 2014 almost 2 years ago (September of 2023).
I sold my customized Road King, and got a very good deal on my Tri Glide, which allowed me to have the extra play money to do a LOT right away. It will most likely be my last bike to customize as much as I did (and still doing).

I will also say, I do it for myself and the enjoyment of customizing and upgrading areas to improve over OEM. Sometimes I really wonder what the hell HDMoCo was thinking on some things! SMH!

But doing a lot of this yourself will not only help one know their ride inside and out, but personal gratification on a completed upgrade is a great feeling too. This also cuts a lot of cost down too.

Getting a service manual for your year trike will be extremely helpful. Two (2) main ones is the “Touring service manual” and also the “Trike Supplement”.

Now, if you are limited in what you can do yourself, there’s no shame. But try to find a good “Indy” (Independent shop) that you can trust and be comfortable with and establish a good relationship with them. This will help out not only the mechanic, but yourself and your wallet too.

(I do have a good dealer, but I will not pay their shop rate for something I can do myself much cheaper… or take it to the Indy shop if you have to).
I know you said it’s hard finding a local shop, but even if you have to travel within reason, finding a good Indy is a huge plus!!

If you were close to me, I’d help you out and my garage is open to help a fellow member!

Now… my trike is the opposite of what you are wanting to do. (Red & Chrome are my two most favorite colors!!! lol)

There are quite a few companies selling customized parts that I know of. I can give you a few links later for you to check out on some of your inquiries that you mentioned.

I will just close this reply with a YouTube video of my Tri Glide on a recent walk around and list of upgrades and accessories and customization completed on it to give you an idea.

You may like some things I’ve done to mine…, you may hate some things. That’s what great about America! 🇺🇸

But hopefully the video may give you some ideas to apply to your Tri Glide, …Plus there’s many on here that also have some awesome trikes and they look incredible too!

I’m sure some will chime in with ideas too!

Below are a few quick links that I know of.
Again a lot of personal preference!

I will say that I favor BAD DAD products (maybe because I had them on my last bike) , but there’s others out there ….so take a good look at their website as they carry a LOT of different parts. On my Tri Glide, I went OEM as I like their Kahuna series, (but was 1/2 tempted to go with their 992 series floorboards, and matching pegs).
Many show no trike parts, but almost all are completely interchangeable as far as floorboards, shift linkage, etc…

Custom shift linkage:

FLOOR BOARDS (& other parts)
BAD DAD:

Handle bars is a HUGE personal choice…
Khromewerks:

As far as Grips…. I choose HD Kahuna Heated grips when I did the handlebars.

You certainly have many choices.

Keep us posted on what you choose!
👍🏻👍🏻

DK Customs is good for parts. Rear pegs: Kuryaykn adjustables. And bars? Seat as you normally do, close your eyes, and reach out and put your hands where they feel good. Now open your eyes and compare to where your grips are, that'll tell you how much higher and/or wider you want to go. I've always had great luck with the Khrome Werks 2+2 Wide Sweepers, on both my Freewheeler and Tri Glide.
