2014 Tri Glide Production Delay

Wow that sounds like the price fixing that Apple, Sony and others do. Certainly a turn off for sure.

Na, Saturn [GM] did that to Made it easier for Woman to buy...
The though was Woman were more likely to buy one if they didn't have to haggle over price,.

Bought a 2013 Triglide four weeks ago and got $2,000 off of MSRP and $2,000 more on my trade than NADA. That's about the best I think you can do, buy end of the year and have a desirable trade in. I have 1,500 miles on it and love every one of them, after removal of the catalytic oven and doing a stage one map and air cleaner. No plumbing needed! Runs 235-250 degrees. In 95 degree weather.

I was extremely satisfied when I bought my 2012 red/merlot triglide. I could not find a used one IN THE STATE in those colors, so started calling local dealers about 'rentals'. Found one locally, 4,000 miles, 6 months usage ( 1 1/2 yr left on warranty) and had several add-ons they put on rentals ( luggage rack and run/stop/brake lite kit.. The rentals didn't show up in dealer searches since they are titled by dealers, so I had to search by myself. Got it for $28k plus they threw in a couple more expensive add-ons, both manuals, bumper and cable adjustable driver backrest. OTD was 31k even. no freight since was used (titled to dealer) , no setup, and got free 5k service. I was real satisfied. They even replaced the timer cover that was scratched from someones boot.

Better deal than the $1k OVER msrp I go tlast week at another dealer to start negotiations on a 2014!! I walked pretty quick! Best trade price I got on a 2014 was $500 less than I paid for my 2012!! But, still think I'll wait until I see what they'll do about no oil cooler next year. Plus, no colors I like better this year!

Now your deal sounds more like it. It appears to me what you were able to get out of the dealer was a lot more than most get, even if it was a little used. Great job.

I think it is really difficult to get a good price on a model that is new, with a lot of changes from the previous model year.

Just today I was talking with the owner of a large multi-store dealership. Right now they cannot get enough 14's in to come close to matching the demand.

I floated my thought that it would be about 1.5 years before they would even think about coming off MSRP...ie. it would be that long before the supply exceeded the demand.

She thought that was probably about right.

btw, I have purchased several bike from them over the years and never paid close to MSRP.

Below is how I shop for a new bike...it has always worked well for me...although, as stated above, I don't think it would work so well right not with demand far exceeding supply on the 14's.

When I decided to get a Tri-Glide (in March 2011), I went to two of the three local dealers and got their best price.

I then worked the phone for a few hours, called a bunch of dealerships (15-20) all over the eastern US.

I knew exactly what I wanted, and let them know the financing was already taken care of...so just let me know if you have this exact bike, and what is your best price...whoever has the best price, I will be there in the next week to pick it up.

The best price I found was in Florida, that included one-way air fare, motels, and gas to ride it back. It was below MSRP, but that particular dealer had an overstock of the color I wanted, AND it was the last few days of the month.

(I have found that many dealerships are much more motivated to close deals at the end of the month, and especially motivated at year end.)

I went back to my two local dealers and gave them the price I was quoted by the Florida dealership, gave them the name and phone # so they could verify.

One of the dealers said they just could not meet the price, the other dealer, MUCH to my surprise, not only matched the price, but beat it by close to $800. (I have no idea why, if they had beat it by as little as $100 I would have gotten my business)

This is the same dealer that had told me just a few days prior that their absolute best price was thousands higher than the # I got from the Florida dealer.

So I ended up getting it locally, but was quite willing to fly and ride it back to save a few thousand.

What's ironic is that I just picked up a slightly used Softail late last year (December 2012). Did the same research, and ended up getting the best deal from the Other local dealer...they both wanted the business, but the one I got it from was just in a different inventory position...oh, and it was the end of the month and they really came down a LOT, but it was contingent on it being done before the last day of the month.

What most dealers will never show you on their inventory report is how many days it has been sitting on their floor...the longer it has been sitting there, the more likely they are to sell it for less profit.

The good part was no freight ($857ish) or setup fee since it was owned by the dealer. Still had to pay the rip-off documentation fee at the max $250 though and, of course, tax. I was lucky with 4k miles and not a scratch. They also did the CAT removal/pipe swap out for me pretty cheap.
The other one I looked at had 16k, scratches and they wanted OVER MSRP for it over phone "but they would deal"!!! :>). It was a short discussion that day after running my but down to Adventure HD in Dover, Oh from Medina, Oh.. When I got there they informed me mileage was 16k ( on phone it was 6k) and that it was still scheduled rentals for over a month yet so I had NO IDEA of final miles and condition when they decided to sell it at the begijning of fall. Now.....I wouldn't buy a t-shirt from them!
If you are ever interested in purchasing a used rental I'd start checking in September.

Thanks Kevin. As usual great info to know. I have only bought a few bikes and nothing new from a dealer but my next buy will be a new Trike. When the time comes I will do my homework and make as many calls as possible. Living here in California there are Harley dealers everywhere , so one will earn my business.

I know ZERO about H-D, but for whatever it's worth, a H-D dealer near me in east-central NJ (Rt 70, Lakewood) has (3) 2014 tri glides in stock. HERE's their web site. Link should take you to "current new inventory", then scroll down.

Today's brief ride happened to take us past the H-D dealer referenced above, so we stopped in to browse. There were (2) tri glides on the showroom floor each with a "sticker price" around $36 ,500. There was actually a couple hundred difference in price, but I don't know what was different about them (other than color).

I'm only posting this as a price reference and to point out that "they" are out there and available. To the eye, they were gorgeous, but I'm still a "rice burner" kinda guy. :D

WooHoo, Saturday morning the dealer called said they got the Certificate or Origin. Got the trike...finally. Took it for a ride, first light I stopped at I caught my self sitting at the light with my feet on the ground...DOH!.

I had to go back to the dealer after a short 10 mile ride to McDonalds. When I stopped there was a loud rattle from under the bike. Ended up the two bolts that hold the rear of the muffler had fallen out. Quick fix and back on the road. I want to check the radiator fluid today because a friend of mine has a 2014 Limited and he found his almost empty after a short day of riding. He had to keep topping it off after a few days of riding before he quit loosing fluid. Has anyone else experienced this?

Another problem he is having is loosing air pressure in the rear shocks. I never had this problem with my 12 Road Glide Ultra. Anybody have this problem?

-UPDATE- I just checked my fluids this morning after riding 100 miles yesterday and radiator fluid is perfect but shocks did loose 10psi. That psi lose might be because the temp dropped 20 degrees overnight in the garage? -

This is going to take a little time to get used to riding a trike. You feel the road more since you have two tires wide on the back. About 30 years ago I used to teach 3 wheel ATV riding classes but that was on dirt. The steering seems ultra quick. It will take a little time but I still LOVE this trike.

Today I am going to put on the Lift kit that I got from Dennis at Tglidestuff.

While your under the bike doing the lift kit reseat the air lines on the shocks. Mine leaked too until I redid all the connections.

For a while, at least, pay attention to your rear wheels/fenders when pulling up to a gas pump or bank ATM!

Tell us whether the lift kit REALLY makes a difference ( I still just can't see it?), and please, measure your seat height before and after?

Here's the breakdown on our pricing: $33,889 two tone color, $856 Freight, $130 Dealer Prep, Total $34,885. Then they gave us $500 off for being an existing customer...OTD $34,385 plus 10% off anything, except labor, for as long as we own the bike. Our dealer is Denny's Harley Davidson, Springfield, MO. Awesome folks to deal with.

Let's see. I bought my 2013 on 9/13. They gave me $6000 for my trade(which I bought from them 6 months ago for $6500), installed Kuryakyn passenger arm rests, included tax, title, & license and a 5 year extended warranty( with wheels & tires covered) for $26,500 out the door.

I think I did well

Will parish,
What does your dealer charge for documentation fee? Dealers near me charge the max of $250!!! A rip off no matter how you look at it!

Bluesman,
That sounds like an excellent deal. $26.5k OTD with all that is great!
What did they charge for extended warranty with tires/wheels? What did you trade on it?
