New to all this stage 1 and 2 talk but have read what each does and the reason for each. If done at the dealer what would the cost be for each stage and does either stage void the factory warranty?
Thank you for your input.

If you are considering a stage 2, then do it without wasting money first on the stage 1. Now my understanding is, if done by the dealer and using the Harley tuner it does not void your warranty. But check with the dealer you are going to use. I waited until my 2 yr warranty was out before I did mine, then I purchased an aftermarket warranty that allows aftermarket cams, tuners, trailer hitches etc.

NoIf you are under HD Factory warranty and want to keep it you must tune with HD tuner , any other tuner voids HD warranty ( that’s on any stage)
Stage 1 is -slip on pipes ( approx 1 k) , high flow breather ( approx 500.00) and tune (400.00 for tuner plus labor , here 656.00 ) plus taxes
stage 2 adds cam. Another 5-6 hrs labor.
If Stage 1 is done , Stage 2 requires another tune.
Shop labor cost varies
Roughly 2000-2500 for Stage 1
Stage 2 another 1K or so.

Me I would just do mufflers and air cleaner . Leave the rest stock , that way your warranty ok. After you warranty is up then get a Power vision. I wouldn’t get stuck with the Harley tuner. That way you are at the mercy of the dealership.

Wait. See dealer about winter specials. You may find a good deal just so they keep thire mechanics working. Also they will be less in a hurry compared to riding season.

Absolutely wait for winter specials, you'll be able to save a lot. As long as a dealer does the install with all Harley parts it does not affect warranty. Really no reason not to use all Harley parts, these stage kits are very well engineered. I am planning a stage 2 this winter. I did a stage 3 on my last bike, a road Glide and 4 1/2 years later never a problem, got 45 mpg and would pick-up the front wheel when power shifting to second. I don't need all that power on my 24 tri-glide, but a stage 2 might be nice!!!!

My take on modifications have changed over the years because these engines have changed.

Personally I feel the M8 114 runs okay compared to the 107 and 103 motors that came on Trikes previously. If I didn't want to spend a lot I would simply install some nice slip-on mufflers and leave everything else alone. The motor will self-tune the with different mufflers.

Now if you want to keep up with some 2-wheel bikes that have stage II kits then you will be spending somewhere between $5,000 and $6,000. Personally I would not use Screaming Eagle parts but find a dealership that will rebuild using some of the other quality kits out there, and still cover under warranty. I took mine to a 130ci. The dealership started by sending the bottom end up to Darkhorse. They balanced it and rebuilt (titanium rods). When it came back they built my motor using a T-Man kit, bigger cam, Vance & Hines power duals headers, Drag Specialties slip-ons. In the dino booth they ended up with 110hp and 135hp. With that lighter balanced Darkhorse bottom end my motor revs much quicker, something that doesn't necessarily show up on dino numbers. It is an extremely fun machine to ride.
