What did you do to your Trike this week?

I have the Kury type and Janice loves them. She says, just a slight change of foot position on a long ride makes the difference in the world!
Adding more bling, great, makes baby look great!

Ride after re-build

Returned yesterday from a nice week-end ride to Pismo Beach, Ca., after my $50 engine re-build (tks, Ext. Warr) - trike runs great so now I can go ahead and OPEN HER UP - Those 500 break/in miles were L O N G, HA.
Current miles on the 2010 Street Glide trike is 73,870
:pepper:

OK, now I need info, on a Harley, how offend do you rebuild the engine? Is this common to Harleys?
Also, need info on Goldwings, has anyone rebuilt their engines, and if so, why? I have read some Goldwing riders get 250,000 and haven't touched the engine at all. Maybe those pancake engines are well balanced so they don't need rebuilding. 6 bangers with quarter size valves...
I do know you have to adjust the valves at every 50,000, so I was told by my mechanic.

Rosy as far as Harley's go if taken care of and serviced right many last 120,000 plus miles. People rebuild for many reasons besides motor failures. I rebuilt mine because it had 47,000 on the clock and I wanted to know exactly the condition it was in. Since I was in there I decided to freshen everything up. It is also a way to increase the size of the motor with out buying a new bike or trike. Harley's unlike a lot of other brands are home mechanic friendly, easy to work on.:D As far as Goldwings you will have to wait for someone who knows to answer you query's..;)

Thank you or your incite! So, the other question is, how did the internals look at 47,000? Did they replace any parts that were not to specification? I am sure the work was not for free, correct, it was your choice not a recommendation of Harley.
Did you upgrade motor?
Last question, on your estimate, will you need to "rebuild" again soon, like the next 47,000 or are you done for the "long" haul!
Yes, need input on a Goldwing. At 250,000, not many trikes have that kind of mileage, but there is another web site, that have "iron butt" two wheel Goldwing riders that put those crazy miles on. As a matter of fact, there were two lady's on BMWs bikes with 1,000,000...That is insane, I think! WOW You put on as many miles as professional trucks do! Right Big Dog?

To answer your question's I did all the work my self except for the heads being ported..replaced piston's rings and honed the bores. replaced the rockers with S&S new value guides new Sifton lifters and blocks. New pushrods and Ulitma rocker boxes, installed a DK head breather system. So yes I am done for the long haul should last a long time. Did it all for about 800.00 in parts. Now working on the pretty stuff.

That's great. Back in the "old days", I did a lot of work, now, not so much!
Thank you very much for sharing! Great pictures, and you did a great job, putting on the bling!
I guess, my patience has gone South with doing work.

She was running a bit rough and fouling plugs on the 2 & 4 cylinders. Did a leak down test and those cylinders failed miserably. So, new jugs, pistons and rings. Ouch...

I had installed a Weber 32/36 carb some time back. It ran well, but was rich all the time and I could never seem to get it adjusted out. Turns out, unbeknownst to me, the primary and secondary jets had been reversed. Came out of the box that way. Probably washed out the rings over a period of time.

WOW, so much for quality control, before packaging!
Their error, will cost you a lot more money, than planned for! Sorry to hear this.
We are glad you posted this, because it could help someone else, if they run the same situation as you.
Thank you for sharing!

i installed the streamliner floorboards and brake peddle on my trike .
Do you have photos? Please, post if you do. How long did it take and was it simple, like some instructions say, any six year old can do this! LOL Then I know it will take my two hours to do! :AGGHH:
Thanks,
Rosy

Grocery store and post office Still working on clutch adjuster for the Freewheeler I got it nailed down now
Hey Jack, you better hurry, we hope to see you at the Snowbird Gathering and talk a bit. If not on you trike, maybe you can come in a cage, and that's fine also. We have people in past years do that, come in their cage.
Please keep us updated on your progress and if you can, post pictures!
See you in Ocala!

Two things:
Does anyone run Michelin Primer A/S on the rears? If so, how do you like them, what pressure do you use, how balance, and how many miles on them?
Avon front trike tire update: How many miles: How are they wearing: How balanced: We heard a softer ride on the front of trike, true? Your riding habit..twisties or highway?
Thanks for your input!

Last time We were in California everything was backed up for a month, but three, WOW!
Glad you got them. They really look nice on the trike.

My trike has been in storage in Alabama for the past three months, I have a question for the Florida gang.
I will need to change my battery when I get there, I've always used the EverStart battery from Wal Mart, but they are not a sealed battery any more, you add acid.
Goldwing owners, what do you use in Florida?
Does the Florida heat effect the life of a battery?
What are you running in your Goldwing trike?
Thank for you help!

NSB, Florida area, where is there a good tire place? Looking for Michelin tires, and a good mechanics who will not scratch the rims when the new tires are put on.
No help on the battery, but that's ok, because I will put the battery I've had before, can't go wrong if you can buy it from California to Florida.
Thanks for your help!
Happy New Year!

Due to our recent cold weather conditons, I had the opportinity to change the differential fluid and engine oil/filter.

Todat I am going to reset the front axle and fork brace if I can ever pull myself away from Trike Talk.:)

If you have a warm place to work during the winter months, it is a great time to work on your ride.
In the Northeast, when we put our babies away for months, we can get a lot done, and by spring time, have almost a new ride with all the new goodies!
Most of the upgrades I did, were done during the winter time, from lights to new tires!
Great to hear you are working on your ride.

For front tires, Discount tire for rears T rated passenger car tires are fine @ 45.00 per tire

No thanks, my Michelin tires have done me fine for years with lots of thread left, but "born date" is getting close, so need to take action soon.
They give us an excellent ride, safe in wet weather, and dry weather. They have a rating of 8+ out of 10, in a tire warehouse rating of over 2 million driving miles.
Thank you for your suggestion.
We will see you soon, at The Snowbird Gathering.

Had to tighten the bolt [1/4 inch alien] on the shift lever that connects to the Transmission shift mechanism [shaft]...10 minute job...But If you follow the service manual its major surgery...All you need is a 1/4 inch Allen on a long flexible extension , And tighten from under the trike...If that bolt gets too loose the lever will cause sloppy shifts or at worst it will just spin on the shaft and then you can't shift the gears...
