I want to try cleaning the speedometer sensor that comes out of the transmission if Im not mistaken. Was going to have the dealer do it but they insist the bike does not have enough miles on it to matter. On my last bike if I did not clean the sensor every 2500 miles it would not work correctly. I have a service manual on order but would love to do this sooner than later. Can anyone post a pic of where this sensor is ? I knew where it was on my last bike but I am having a senior moment and cant find it. Thank you for the help.

I don't have a picture but the sensor is call the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and it is located on the transmission just inboard from the oil and transmission fill caps. It has 3 wires running into it. It removes the same by taking the allen head bolt out and working the sensor out. Be careful not to nick the "O" ring on it or you will have a leak. Good Luck

I agree with your dealer unless you are getting a lot of shavings off of parts the sensor stays fairly clean and only needs occasional attention when the readings get erratic. That being said you are not hurting anything by cleaning it.
