Anyone running. A120. ?

Well i'm off the fence after alot of studing i have decided that the 120 is going to have to stay on the shelf.
My decision was simply the money was more than i wanted and the warrenty was non existent.
so what i decided to do was buy the screaming eagle stage IV kit for 2k
the torque and hp are both over 110, completely factory, and 1/3 the cost.
and a lot easier with warrenty issues.
Nothing like having a 40k trike with no warrenty. so thats why i went with this option.

Screamin' Eagle® Street Performance Stage 4 Kit - 103 Cubic Inches

This Street Performance kit provides the maximum horsepower output for a legal 103 kit that will maintain the factory warranty. This kit includes SE CNC Ported Factory Cylinder heads, 58mm ETC throttle body, SE-259E cams, 10.5 to 1 compression pistons, Perfect-Fit pushrods, SE clutch spring, and all required engine gaskets. This Street Performance kit produces 103 hp and 110 ft-lbs of torque. All EFI-equipped models require ECM calibration* (priced separately). *Recalibration is required for proper installation, and will allow engine to rev to 6200 RPM. See Dealer for details. Labor cost is not included.

I haven´t been on the board for a while so this is a new thread to me.
JJ, I was in the same boat as you.
I decided on the 120R over the stage4 kit because I would be doing the conversion myself and because of my location. (Mexico) I felt more at ease swapping motors than actually tearing into one.
I ordered the race clutch and as luck would have it, almost to the day, HD came out with the centrifigual clutch.
Needless to say, I now have both clutches waiting in the wings.ThumbUp
I figured that with doing the engine swap myself and selling the ¨old¨ engine, I would have a more powerful motor at about the same cost. (I sold my stock motor for 3K:D)

Just my 2 cents.;)

Vettster that was also my intention but, after labor, throttle body, clutch, and other misc parts even with the trade in it was still going to cost 6300
so now with the IV kit im in at 3k and still have a warranty.
With all that I have invested in this ride I want to maintain that for a couple more years anyway.

Well, well, well, got the Trike back today with the 120R. Watched the weather very closely. Big winter storm to arrive. Bundled up and went for a ride.

Mike and Oldsocko, went by your houses about 11am, and Mike I did not knock your driveway marker down.

Only got about 30 miles on it before I got too cold. But..... it is very tame and ridable at slow speeds. Did not take it above 50mph and below 3000 rpm. I can tell it wants to get up and go, but not yet. In fact, the oil temp never got over 170 deg. Too cold out for me but I had to try it.

Snow tonight means salt on roads, so I'm done unless I go South with the trailer. How far south would that be to get to 50 degrees and no Snow/salt?

Clutch pull felt fine, but was not in any traffic.

Overall not a good long test but.........fun!! Can't wait for more.

Later, George.

When I got home from work the wife ask me if I knew anyone who looked kind of like Santa Clause and road a black Triglide:laugh:. I told her I knew exactly who it was and if he looked like Santa why didn't she go out and sit on his lap and tell him what she would like for Christmas:laugh:. My guess is my sister in law clipped the driveway marker the previous night, I just pounded it back in.

Glad you got chance to at least take it for a little ride. I'll bet it has to be night and day different feeling power wise than it was when you had the 103 in there.

Hey, eighty80 sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun next summer or can you wait that long. If you don't mind me asking what were the total $$$ damages.

Mike, ther is no doubt about the differance being there! I wanted to wind it up so bad, but know better. In fact, I didn't like the idea of it not getting upto 200 degrees on the motor.

Like I said without boreing other people here, I'm old school. I have been playin around with Harley motors since 1972 when I came back from Nam and out of the Marine Corps.

I also know a lot has changed over the years on these motors, but I'll stick to my old school breakin. Start out on Rt11 North, headed south. Run the motor up and down through the gears, getting the temp up. Then stopping at every exit to let it cool. Then do it all over again, all the way to rt 322, then back. Change the oil and done. No motor failure yet, and I don't think I left any HP behind? Just too bad it snowed.

Oldmike, I'll get that free coffee out of ya yet. I had too many cloths on to stop yesterday. I had to roll off the Trike and almost peed a little.

Later, George.

Sounds like you'll be fine with the way your doing it, the rings are already seated now so the rest is just a little wear in of the piston to cylinders.

Well its been a rough month for big bird. First the scorred crank and cams. Now metal shavings in trans. No its not together. Between waiting on parts, mechanic went to school for a week, and then Christmas, and now this.
Come on 2013

Where did the metal shavings in the trans come from?

Not so sure but all around a bearing. It looked like hair

Good thing it was caught early, once they get it apart they should be able to tell what happened. Don't want to start an oil debate, just curious what oil you ran in the trans.

same as in the engine and primary AMSOIL i ran it in my honda's and never had a problem.
they told me from now on use hd

I agree you shouldn't have had an issue with the Amsoil, its exceeds all HD's specifications. If their trying to get you to run Syn3 in the trans I wouldn't. I ran it in the trans years ago, couldn't figure out why I was getting fuzzy metal pieces on the drain plug magnet when I changed oil. I switched to Redline Shockproof heavy and the fuzzies went away.

Yes I think I am going back to regular fluids. I have always thought the trans should use a heavier lube. Thats what im going to try.

Well took big bird out today to stretch her legs, only one word to describe it. AWESOME and its not even tuned yet. Its still a little rattley so they ordered some screaming eagle lifters thats supposed to quite it down.

Wow, kinda cold in Quincy ain't it? Glad to hear you had a chance to try it.

So, what build did you end up goin with? I know you were workin within a warranty. Did they or you get the tranny figured out? Well duh, I guess they did if your ridin it. Just woundered what that finale outcome was?

You sure had your share of problems, hope you have a good rideing season!!

Later, eighty80.

I went with the se stage IV kit pistons, heads, throttle body, and cams.
Its supposed to do about 110 hp and tq. So we will see when they get it on the dyno and tune it. It's pretty peppy now so im excited for it to be done.
Yes it was a tad chilly yesterday at 40

Sounds like your going to have a nice ride once its completed.

Hmmm... I was thinkin' it would have more than 110 hp...wouldnt it? We have a guy here with a souped up HD 120, and they think it is in the 120 to 130 range...but ...no trike dyno to find out fer sure.

mine is still a 103 not a 120
which i think is pretty respectable considering i still have a warrenty.
we are going on a 50 mile ride today because its going to be 50 degrees sounds good to me:wave4:pepper:Trike1::laugh::)
