When I woke up this morning it was snowing,heavy.It was slick and icy. By 10:00 am blue sky,sun all melted including the ice. By 1:00 pm its in the 50's. By the time I go home at 6:00 it's cold blowing and starting to snow again:gah:

Windy and in the 60s the past 2 days. 70s tomorrow and then the 80s. I know the weather is changing when the evening temps don't fall below 55. In the super hot days, 110 or so, when the sun goes down, the temps will drop 40+ degrees. Then it is time for a jacket.

That scenery is what I miss the most. I grew up on ski's in CO. Guess that's why I spend all my vacation time out west in the mountains. My wife is a flat lander and just does not understand my yearning. One does not feel the cold up there because of the dry air.

Somehow I am feeling the cold amigo, Humidity or no humidity.

Wind is the big killer in this country, The greatest threat to life for man and animal.
Spring is the time where wind driven snow pushes a herd of cattle into a fence corner and freezes them where they stand in 10' drifts.

The only saving grace is remembering what the direction the wind normally blows in a storm and orient yourselves accordingly because as you know, people can get lost on their own property out here. A total white out is an experience in itself.
Todays tracking devices with a home car, and personal GPS has been a god send a few times out here. And people are beginning to survive more often.
It's a great life if you don't weaken, It wears a man down early.

Sunday night we had an electrical storm complete with lightening and woke up to another 5" of snow and 50 MPH winds.
Interstates were closed across the region with reports of 70 to 90- mph. winds which aren't to unusual for march.

It will be the end of June before the ambient temperature exceeds the wind speed.


The picture is the summit of Togowotee pass at the continental divide in the third weekend of June.




What a crazy place, I can slip and fall off the porch into a snow drift, get dried off by warm wind and then soaked on the way to the mail box and on the way back to the front porch stand in mud up to my ass and get dirt blown in my eyes.

I truly am ready to give it all up for a moderate year round temperature.
I would have no problem making a special trip to see everything I would miss July- October. :laugh:

I made my life out here and thought it was worth it, reckon this will be where I die so. End of story. When the summer finally hits, I will take a small Run into the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone to see the bear, elk, bison, wolf and untamed thermal activity, drop in on the grand canyon of the Yellowstone, Pull supper out of a creek on homemade fly and wonder at my backyard.
Until then I'm just gonna bitch about it, Thank you very much.

I saw your other post of basically being raised on ski's. I don't doubt that you miss the slopes.

The day we sold the folks house on Red Mtn. outside of Aspen was tough. I've made one trip back since then. Who ever said you can't go home once you leave knew what they were talking about. There is nothing for me there now. Aspen has changed that much.

The forecast for this part of Wyoming says 60 degrees tues.. and 63 wed.

I thought about bringing my Harley out of mothballs but I know it will snow if I do.

Of course I cant force myself to look at the wind forecast, town rides is about the most I could expect here this time of year but I will take it!

I'm old school Harley and go to great lengths winterizing my bike so putting it on the road takes some time. :Shrug:

well hell, I went out for a 100 mile ride and came back to a broken water line in the basement.

The wife panicked but got the fire dept. and the city water guy to come over and shut it off after about 15 minutes.

She also got a plumber over so good on her.

I hate cleaning up after this kind of crap and not breathing all that well yet so I got serve pro over to clean it up.

To damn much water for a shop vac anyway so money well spent I guess?

The worst part of it is I worked in a water dept. for many years and know the ins and outs of the whole show, but I guess like a pro mechanic, we never figure it will happen to our stuff! :Shrug:

Guess I will have to wait to do the few things I wanted to do on the bike until money supply is replenished to buy parts. No big deal, nothing critical on the bike just stuff I wanted to do.
