Your Choice of Helmet?

I know, I know it's a personal choice. I'm just curious about trike riders choice of helmets. Yes I ran a search and found nothing. I know this must have been covered a zillion times at least. I have 3 helmets-a low profile half, a 3/4 with a face shield and a full face (modular). All have plusses and minuses as I have read opinion after opinion about. However, nothing I have found discussed helmet choice on Trikes. I generally alternate the half and 3/4 for "cruiser" rides, but note that a lot of riders wear the full face all the time. I wear my full face in cooler weather or longer trips, but it can get hot.

So, I'm curious about what my trike riding brothers and sisters wear and why. Seems to me at least that a trike is less likely to crash as a two wheeler, but then again, I'm a moron so...... So, what say you?

Thanks!

I just went through this. Wife and I both have two helmets....wireless with Cardo and wired. Both of her's are half helmets. Both of mine are 3/4.

I looked for another 3/4 with a drop-down shield and a visor - seems they are hard to find. So, I purchased a half helmet like my wife's. Mounted the Harley premium headset in it and rode today. Got to tell you, I actually fell in love with that helmet. What helps if that is had ear pockets, so it makes me feel like I have some covering over the earn.

Try the half. You might enjoy it.

Helmet

Wife/I just were discussing this today-we ea ride our own trike and have rode using half helmets for years. Now acquiring newer trikes we are researching communition systems and possible modular helmets.

Have heard numerous pros/cons re Harley’s units…….will be following this topic!

RIDE SAFE ALL!

On another forum there was a topic about bugs. I responded that wearing an open face helmet, I encountered a bee in my helmet 2 different times. Wearing a full face modular helmet I encountered a swarm of bees and a swarm of locust that required pulling over to "clean-up" each time. All these encounters happened while riding with a wind screen that was adjusted to my nose level. Your choice..... I now always ride with a full face modular and usually have it cracked open a couple clicks to allow more air in around the bottom. Other than that, I recommend riding with the helmet that fits you correctly.....

My wife and I have 3 helmets each and each have a purpose. We were at the dealer a month or 2 ago during trade in days for helmets. She traded in a 3/4 with shield that she was wearing when she thumped the pavement in front of the house and I traded in my half helmet. We got Harley branded HJC 34 3/4 with face shield and drop down visor. We use these for around town riding and back roads. It has fast became my favorite helmet. She also has a full face (for interstate riding) and a modular (for road trips). I have 2 other full face helmets. One set up for my GoPro for club rides and scenic rides and one for interstate riding and road trips, it's actually a track helmet (safety and all). Most everybody I know has more than one helmet and they serve multiple purposes. Like was said previously, the best one is one that fits properly and is comfortable.

Temperatures is what I'm resigned to go by in my old age. My Doc doesn't want me riding below 60 degrees ( yeah he's crazier than a double pecker billy goat) . Above 60 I wear a beanie helmet. Below 60 a full face modular. In the late '60's to mid '80's wore 3/4 helmets with flat shields. No use for them anymore.

Wife and I both have 1/2 helmets for most of our rides here in Florida. During the cooler months we both have HJC modular full helmets with drop down half dark shields.

Always wear a face covering helmet

Either full face or modular. I wear modular because I always figured if I was in an accident bad enough to need helmet protection, I'd like to have a face when it was over. This came into play in '21 when I totaled my '04 RK. Although I escaped with relatively minor injuries, my helmet was badly scraped across the facial area. With an open face helmet, I would have been off to facial reconstruction if I was lucky. Helmet, an LS2, worked great so why take that chance?

In very hot weather, I remove the shield for extra cooling.

I have 1/2, 3/4 and full face. Prefer the 1/2 unless it is very cold and wet and then I go with the full face. Rarely use the 3/4. When I was still on 2 wheels I used the 3/4 and full face most of the time but on the trike I feel safer and prefer the 1/2.

Nice to see your still here Danny

Thanks Bill. Still riding some but pretty much local only....lunch, breakfast, etc. Everyone I used to ride with around here either died or quit riding (same thing). Don't do trips anymore.

It has been a long time since we have gotten together. I am glad to see your still around. Need to put something together, so we can meet up.

That would be good, after it cools off! Can't believe how hot it is right now! Rode to breakfast a few days ago, was back at the house by 10:00 AM and it was like riding in a blast furnace!
