Has anyone noticed how nasty some of the other cycle forums are getting lately? Where we focus on the exchange of information, pictures, jokes and general good will... oh and riding, yes RIDING...a lot of forums I visit seem to be focused on who's opinion of what is better or more valid than the other guy's oposing opinion, to the point of name calling, chest thumping, threats and such. I suppose some folks just enjoy their daily pissing match.

Yep.... Not only do they get pissy with each other forum members.. But once someone mention's Harley the floodgates open up with anti Harley venom... ie; This Harley rider didn't wave to me, This Harley rider snubbed me ect,ect.. And this is on a American bike forum.. :xzqxz:

Zook, those other forums let stuff get out of hand several years ago mostly because of one person and his forums. Now that "nasty" train is going to be hard to stop. Glad it never reached this station!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not talking about just one, I'm on a half dozen other cycle forums and four of them in particular are constantly in a state of bickering on one or more threads. I don't understand why the admins don't step in....in some cases the moderators are the one's exacerbating the situation. I've been told a good fight drives forum traffic, but I think it does more harm than good if left unchecked for very long. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with a good constructive debate, a little good natured jabbing even, but the constant bickering gets to be a turn off for me.

Zook, you are correct! But, one forum stands above all others for the "nastiness" that has been allowed to go on for some time.
This is a good board and we need to keep it that way.
Debates are good, personal attacks are not:NoJoke:

I generally go to some of the other forums when I want to roll around in the dirt:D, Trike Talk is my happy place. I recently grew tired of a member on another forum, just something about his posting style made me want to slap him around, I've chosen to take my bat & ball and move along. I post a little bit on other forums, and lurk a lot. The majority of my posting these days is on TT, IMO its the best forum out there.

I've never known you to get down to the same level of the typical forum idiot Mike, so if you went toe to toe with someone I'm sure there was good reason. You've seen me get jiggy a couple of times here over the years haven't you. :D

Glad to have you as a friend and a long time regular here and I know everyone else here feels the same. ThumbUp

I agree with you Zook, I also pass among other forums and I would be slapping a lot of hands/keyboards for what is being said or "implied" if I were an administrator there. Keep up the good work that you do here, and we are all the better for it.

It seems that a lot of people want to be accepted as "one of the Guys" and will agree with anything they normally say to be part of the fold. Many times they will start comments on posts knowing that the regulars will chime in with that same opinon later and they want to be the first to flame the guy.

I come to this and one other forum mostly for information on how to fix this or that. I don't put up with fussing and fighting at home and I ain't going to listen to on a forum. When that starts I just delete my account and move on. Life is too hard as it is without listening to a bunch of name calling. I love my bike and don't see me on anything else. I figure that the way most people are or they would be on something else. None of us have the same likes and dislikes and not of us have the same experiences, that's called individual, that is what makes the world what it is. Heck I wished many time that every bolt was the same size and every bulb was the same. What a wonderful world it would be if we only had one bike or one car or one house, since my favorite color is red then every car, bike, tractor, mower, house..... would be red, yea that would be good. Wait does that make a communist?

Keep in mind, it works the other way also. When I have commented on the Harley site some guy accuses me of "trolling". Another suggested that I had a "big ego" just because I suggested in a post about a Harley that had multiple engine problems to "find a person that has to have a harley and sell it"

I've owned several harleys in my 45 yrs of riding and figure I can comment as much as anyone else but I have sworn I'll never post again on the Harley site and have to read that kind of abuse. I am amazed the moderator didn't straighten some of those folks out, but nothing was said. I've read posts on that site that even suggested that if you didn't ride a Triglide no one needs to be posting anything on that site. How silly is that. One Triglide owner on that site criticized me for "paying money to the Emperor of Japan" because I had the audacity to trike a Goldwing. Somebody needs to take a course in Economics.

I ride with two different groups in my home area. One are mainly HD riders and the others are mainly Wing riders. Trust me, I hear negative comments from both about each others brands, but I can assure you in my little part of the world the HD riders are far more critical and condescending about "jap bikes" than the other way around.

I think all will agree that this is the best bike/trike forum "out there" but it is not perfect. None will ever be. Sooner or later someone's feathers get ruffled here and it is usually caused by Honda riders posting snide little remarks about Harleys in the Harley forum. There is a small handful of those here with their big Honda ego's. Hopefully someday they will grow up, then we will be as close to perfect as can be.

not much different on forums here. its easy to be an E Thug. there is no real repercussions for being a rude obnoxious twat hiding behind a computer. These type of people are looking to make themselves feel better at the expense of others. true cases of low self esteem...And i will back that up with...often these same people have a high post count, but if you looked deeper you would see a lot of them are +1, or same.. they want to be seen to be involved, but have nothing worth saying, no opinion worth airing. Following the lead bully to flame someone is the low self esteemers way of appearing to have allies.
when it comes to nasty stuff the low self esteemer has nothing but nasty to offer, not even a logical explanation to back up their reasoning.
they spend far too much time sitting at their computers waiting to pounce. probably too much to ever even go out and ride.
you also notice they never put themselves in an avitar. To scared to put their face to their behavior.
sad and pathetic really, not much to worry about though, and on a positive note...
At least the education system works.. teachers managed to teach these morons how to turn on a computer and type

Takes Two to Tango ThumbUp

In order for Someone to be "Offensive",
Someone has to voluntarily and of their own accord become "Offended".
The Guilt is then shared and both Parties equally to blame.
Ego isn't an issue until it collides with an equal and opposite Ego.

Life's too short to act the Fool.
It's also too short to sweat and bemoan those who do.

It's All Good :D
Awesome Day to All

Everyone has to be treated as equal as possible on a successful Forum and the Administrators and Moderators have to do Their job. Everyone has a bad day sometime, but no use letting it fester into a "Forum Down Spiral". TRIKE TALK.com IS the Best Motorcycle Form out there, and I belong to several also.....ThumbUp...When Members start to bash Other Members, Brands, etc., it's time to step in, politely stop it, and get things back in working order before it becomes a serious issue....FANTASTIC GROUP OF MEMBERS here........ThumbUp

For me, Trike Talk is my home base as far as forums go. I've never seen any of the arguments and name calling here as I've read on other MC forums. (and I hope to never see that here!) :cxtv:;)

If just seems that some of the guys on those forums are so damn touchy! No sense of humor at all! They take everything so personally. In one case, a guy was obviously replying to a thread in a joking manner and the OP flew off the handle taking his joke seriously. Apologizes were offered, but the OP wouldn't have any of it and finally left the forum. Which in all honesty, was better for that forum in general.

So at times, it's entertaining to visit the some-what, 'stormy waters' of other forums. But it's always nice to come back to Trike Talk. Or maybe we might nick name it, 'Lake Placid', lol

I rest my case

Great forum. I would guess that the maturity of the participants has a lot to do with it.
I have really enjoyed the great folks here at Trike Talk.

I guess if I were as "pissy" as some folks I would hide behind a computer too.

And you know, humor is really difficult on a forum. I have a tendency to make something funny and it just doesn't come across in typing.

Keep up the positive attitudes.

Mike

Very interesting! We at venturerider.org do not seem to have that problem! We continue to be one big happy family and we really don't care what you ride, we have wing owners there, Harley riders there, etc and we all seem to get along quite well. As stated no site is perfect and on rare occasion someone's feathers may get ruffled, or some member may get out of hand but things are handled with due diligence.

Of course there will always be a friendly rivalry between First generation and Second generation Ventures but it is all in fun. When it all comes down to it everybody is there for everyone else. There is another Venture site that I was a member of but left and never looked back for personal reasons but that was mostly because the way the site was ran was not my cup of tea, too legalistic. I am still friends with several members there.

Quite frankly this is why Trike Talk seems to be my "other" website home as this seems to be a very friendly and open website. I haven't met many of you members yet nor is my post count over 10,000 here yet but then again I haven't been a member since 2005 either! So far I am happy here and will continue to annoy all of you with my sick humor, etc!

Next week we will be attending our first Trike Talk M&E and am looking forward to meeting more members and establishing friendships here too!!

I am also on several forums. In particular the BMW forum to learn about why a $60,000 car can be such a POS at times. There may be several thousand members, but only a few active posters. Many of them are such advocates of their particular car that any disparaging remarks are slapped down immediately. On this forum there are many more ACTIVE posters. All have been very Accommodating. That is why we have chosen to go to 3 rallies and are already making plans for next year!

Love this site! Becoming a member of the trike community is the best thing we ever did! Enjoy reading about various types of trikes and folks home projects. Everyone is real nice to us here. Looking forward to once again spending time with members at NE Rally in a week! :pepper:

But let us rembember that Scott drinks that spiked water from the "Home Depot" water cooler! It can cause him at act a little weird at times, it does not mean that we don't enjoy his fellowship and sense of humor, or his beautiful better half! :Dorag:

Don't let it get to you FRR. You will find us friendly if you are friendly also.
The mild chastisement was only to remind us we don't want this sight to dissolve into the mess other sites are.

I have to admit that watching a good forum fight can be pretty entertaining. Its like when your kooky neighbors have a scream fest and you just pull up a lawn chair and listen and grin, but you don't want it going on in YOUR house, that's the way I feel about our forum.
