What's the age requirement to ride a trike?

My boyfriend and I were at a bike show and saw the harley trike when it first came out..some guy about 40 said he couldn't understand why people would ride a trike..my boyfriend is 47 and in 1991 was hit by a drunk driver and died twice..took him 2 years of rehab and several surgeries to become as normal as he'll ever be.. he wanted to ride again so he got a trike..after he explained it to the guy he changed his mind about trikes and why people ride them..I am 63 and with arthritis that affects every part of my body, my decision was with a trike and believe me some days my friends have to bend my leg and help me get on or off my trike..but I will ride until they burn my old body and blow my ashes to the wind..I have enough great friends who will help me on or off when needed..BoomBoom

It always amazes me how people want to sterotype everyone. I have a 2003 1800 GW Illusion Blue Trike with a 1940 Ford Trailer that I pull everywhere. I ride a minimum of 12,000 miles a year and I have about $35,000 invested in a beautiful machine. I am in the planning stages right now of doing a 7500 mile ride in 30 days for vacation.

And of course there is always some guy riding a 1983 washed out HD with no power and no comforts of life that he manages to ride between the bars for at least 400 miles every year saying "I'll never ride a Trike their for old men" The real truth is that he can't afford it and he likes dressing up like a pirate and acting like a tough guy!

I'm sorry for showing my anger but I get tired of someone always trying to berate someone else because we don't do things their way. I ride with a couple of guys that ride Road Kings and we have a great time without worrying about what the other guy is riding. But at the end of the day it isn't me the GW Trike rider worn out and ready for bed. They are 54 & 55. I am 66 and I ride circles around them every year. That being said: So What, Who Cares, We went to have fun not critique each other!

So to answer the question: "How old do you have to be to ride a Trike?" Maybe, just maybe you are kidding yourself. If you don't ride any where you don't need a Trike!

I apoligize if I have stepped on any toes!

Just remember 15k and 15 miles dosn't make you a biker!

So, I reckon the next big question to Boscoporp and White Wall is;

How many dollars do I have to spend and how many miles do I have to ride each year for you to accept me as a "Biker"?

BoomBoom you go girl. Live to Ride Ride to Live.

Defination of a "BIKER" someone who rides a bike or in our case a motorcycle (2 or 3 wheels). Doesn't say how much you spent or how far you went. It just says that you RIDE.

I have friends ( brother-in Law included) that have bikes that only go out 5 times a year or maybe have been stored for many years because of family or financial commitments. They still sit and talk attend meetings ( we use to call them (BAR STOOL RACERS ) they are still bikers because biking is in the blood not on how far you ride what you ride or even that you ride. In 1979 I stored my Motorcycle for 20 after my friend had a bad accident with his. Never sold it it because I was still a biker. As far as 2, 3 or even 4 wheel motorcycles , moped or full dressed it is still the same wind in your face.

Thanks John for adding to what I was trying to say. You hit the nail on the head.

Well put John. The point is the love for the road. The freedom you feel when the winds in your face. If a biker is who you are you don't need an explanation. If you have to ask then you don't understand. That's my take on it.

i am 57, been riding a trike now for 3 1/2 years now(first a vtx motortrike-now a GW). am still physically able to two-wheel, but have no desire anymore. about 4 years ago had a brand new back tire blow out at 70mph. had my wife on back. i've been in some bad crashes through the years(14 years ago was thrown out of a truck-then it rolled over me-in a coma for 16 days-recovered fully), but none scared me as bad as that blowout. kept the bike upright, but was all over the road with no control. was totally prepared to give up riding. then we discovered trikes, so we still enjoy our motorcycle. age required? no. just a love of riding-dave

Shiney, What a ride that sounds like. Glad you got it stopped without a crash. I bet the wife was hanging on for dear life. I bet some words were exchanged with the tire dealer.

the wife(fiance at the time-married me anyway)had not ridden a lot, and really didn't know what was going on till afterward. that was probably a good thing because she stayed put instead of squirming around. the bike was doing enough of that! as for the tire dealer-he made everything right. the failure wasn't really his fault, as the seam in the tube came open(freak deal-one in a zillion). but, he paid for everything, including all labor, and was very apologetic. still causes shivers remembering. but something good came of it-we now enjoy triking as much as i ever did two-wheeling.:yay:

Shiney glad he made it right. One advantage for tubeless tires. Just can not run spoked rims.
